Works great - gotta watch condensation
Cools our main rooms well in our home - we purchased this when our central air unit went out. We plan to use this through the rest of the summer.

        BY FAR the BEST A/C!!!
We bought another A/C from GE and it has not blown cold air since we first turned it on! This one blows such cold air that for the first time since I moved into my new apartment a few months ago, I actually needed a blanket! It felt amazing!

          Cold but Loud
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted this AC unit to help cool a 265 sq ft fitness room in my home. When working out inside, I like the room on the colder side, and this unit provided a good way to provide extra cooling to a single room without having to lower the temperature on my 4 ton central AC unit thermostat. Pros: This unit gets air COLD. I measure a 25F degree split or better between intake air and conditioned air when the compressor kicks on. Internal water capture. It is nice to not have to run a condensation hose outside to get rid of water. Easy to install. Easy to move. Cons: LOUD. I would not want this unit in a bedroom or anyplace you planned to watch TV, take a phone call, or have a conversation. Even with the fan on low, this is still a loud unit. Not an issue for how I'm using it, but important to know. Fan is always on. Even when not cooling, this unit will always have the fan blowing while turned on. No insulation or weather sealing with the included window kit. It is basically just plastic pieces that lock together and leave small gaps. That means a lot of cooling loss around the window. It also doesn't seal well enough on its own to I would trust it to keep water out during a Texas thunderstorm No recovery after power outage. If you lose power, this unit will not recover to its previous last setting when power is restored. This keeps me from using it anyplace where I'd want a stable temperature unattended. To sum it up, this unit is good at its primary purpose: cooling the air. If noise is not an issue for your intended installation location, this seems to be a solid unit. I would not, however, want to use it in a domestic or office environment where excess noise would be a concern.

The 10,000 BTU portable air conditioner with dehumidifier by GE checks all of the boxes and more when you are looking for an ideal portable air conditioner. The unit itself is heavy, however it is much easier to handle than trying to install a comparably sized window unit. You need to lift and carry the unit once in order to get it to the desired location. Once there you can easily roll it from room to room and move it to wherever you need it. Unlike window units, where you need to balance it on the mounting bracket as you gingerly ease it into place. Then it is setup and secured and can’t be easily moved from one room to the next. The exhaust hose is easily set up in horizontal as well as vertical windows. Simply extend it to the desired length and connect it to the expandable window slats. You can use the foam insulation to seal up any open gaps or spaces. Both the window slat and foam are provided with the unit. This unit puts out more than enough cold air, which can cool a room up to 400 square feet. The unit has two cooling speeds and a fan function. This unit can also be used as a dehumidifier. It has easy to use digital controls as well as a fully functional remote control. Finally, the moisture bucket can store up to 67 pints of water per day. You can drain the bucket from either the upper or lower drain plug. The unit also has a indicator light to notify you when the bucket is full. All and all this unit is a perfect fit for just about any scenario at a very reasonable cost.

So cool in more ways than one. Looks great and really cools the room. My small office has never been cooled by our central air since it is so far from the unit. I can feel the force of air from twenty feet away with this air conditioner. Very easy to set up to blow out the window. It has a remote control which can do the same things you can program from the top of the unit.

This unit is very heavy! But once it's out of the box and on its wheels, it's easy to move around. (The instructions state that you should wait at least 24 hours before plugging in if you've laid the unit on its side which is likely in the process of getting it home.) I haven't moved the unit to its permanent home yet, but I did want to do a quick set up just to see how it all works. I'm definitely going to need the foam insulation provided to seal the panel in the window. I'll also need to cut little pieces to fill the gaps where the hose meets the window connector. Otherwise, I'm sure little bugs will get in never mind the efficiency decrease. The hose to the window expands a lot. I'm not really sure the benefit of the remote. Although you can manage the settings on the remote, you have no idea what they are. The unit settings only display on the machine itself! But I suppose if you want to turn it off and then on at the last settings, having the remote is nice. I also haven't had it long enough to empty the tank. I'm concerned because the drain hole is so low to the ground and the instructions state to place a shallow pan to collect the condensation water (1 quart). I would have preferred instead of a plug, there was an open/close valve because I'm not good at balancing shallow pans holding 4 cups of water! At least if it was a valve, I can drain smaller amounts at a time that I'm less likely to spill. Air conditioners are noisy. The room that I set up to test the unit has a wall A/C unit. This GE portable unit was significantly louder than the wall unit. If you have the unit in a room where you watch TV, you'll need to turn up the volume. If the unit will be in your bedroom, you'll probably get used to it as louder white noise. The trade-off for the noise is that this unit pushes out cool air really well!

This portable air conditioner is an efficient and well built unit that while heavy, due to an on-board compressor, is easily moveable due to its sturdy wheels. The case is a high quality plastic and the LED display is easy to read. The controls allow adjustment of temperature and fan speed and the opening size of the vents allow a substantial amount of air flow. The unit is not quiet, but it is moving a lot of cool air and the level of sound that I measured at 12" from the vent is shown in the photos that I uploaded. At low speed I measured 70.3dBA and on high speed it was 74.7. This unit also dehumidifies and testing it in my garage/shop it pulled about 1/2 to 3/4 of cup of water out of the air in about 60 minutes. Your experience may differ from mine in Florida where there is almost always high humidity. There is a 4" very sturdy synthetic material vent hose that needs to be vented through a window to exhaust the heat that is removed by this appliance and an adjustable panel allows for a tight seal through the window. Either single hung or casement windows will accommodate this. There is also a drain to remove the water/moisture that is removed from the air in the room. This is a very useful item for those with a need to cool and/or dehumidify a room of up to 350 square feet and it can be used when power is lost because of storms if there is a generator to power it as it runs on a 120 volt, 60 cycle American electrical power system. It does not take up much room when not in use and can easily be stored in a closet or corner of a room.
