Questions & Answers

can you get a middle grate for cooking pots?

I do not use the griddle much. I need the grate for a Dutch oven pot. the order model had both the grate and griddle. most people cook more often with pots instead of the griddle.
Asked by: foghorns
Bought mine in New York. The sales person was helpful and knowledgeable - the sign on the appliance clearly stated that a center grate (JXGRATE1D.D.(1001-666-769) was available for $49.

Above all else, Do NOT call the number that GE provides ostensibly to receive the printed manual, you will never get anyone picking up that line. Do NOT call GE customer service either, they'll refer you back to the non answered number, and get really rude and condescending when you let them know they are incorrect. But, I digress, go to the website and download one. Home Depot printed out one for me to keep me from returning it after the fiasco with GE. But, now that it's impossible to get mine to work with no instructions, and wrong parts, it's going back. Home Depot may still get a sale, but it will NOT be a GE product.

Once and for all, does stove come with both griddle and grate. There are answers from GE on here stating both yes and no?

Asked by: TACO
Mine came with the griddle. I had to buy the grate separately.

OK, my last question about the oven light (promise). Today I saw another Home Depot that had this on display in Stainless and there was no control for the oven light . The serial number was LF219470P. Can someone confirm that is is 3 year old stock Home Depot is showing? I don't want to get this and find the feature is missing and can't return to the builder. Attached is a picture of the information tag. Thanks, Tim
Asked by: Tim
Thanks for the response indicating this oven has a light that can be controlled from the touch panel. Why does Home Depot display a 3 year old model in TWO stores missing features? This has to be costing GE sales since an oven light, although minor detail, if VERY important for some people. It kind of makes me leary to purchase from them since they are showing old stock and I don't know if that is all they have in their inventory amd this is what I may get.

Adora 5.0 cu. ft. Gas Range with Self-Cleaning Convection Oven in Stainless Steel is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1415.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from easy to clean, in general i like this stove. i am disappointed that apparently it doesn't come with both the center grill And a center grid. it only came with the griddle. also, the oven light worked when i got it 2 mo ago and already is not working. other than that, i like that there are 3 different burner btu's with one being very low and good for melting butter. front burners are large and have the heat to sear or boil water quickly. love the center oval burner and griddle but would have also loved having the grid also. the store display had the center grid. the cooktop is super easy to clean except the oven exhaust is a little shelf almost on the back panel that catches small things like salt, and crumbs that you can only clean by folding a damp paper towel and wedging it in the back where it almost meets the display panel, then dragging the towel along to clean out the crack. i have not tried the oven self-clean cycle, but i did try the steam clean a couple of times. couldn't see that it did anything. not even sure if it got hot.

I researched carefully and found this stove to be the best bang for the buck. In my opinion by far. I actually went to Home Depot to buy another stove which I thought I had researched well. Both were convection ovens normally selling for about $1100 but were both on sale for the same price. I walked straight up to this stove because the other one advertised it's "large cook surface". They were sitting side by side, yet once I realized I was standing in front of the "wrong stove" I quickly realized the cook surface and griddle were both significantly larger (and therefore more useful) on this one! I then immediately noticed that unlike every other stove I had looked at, this one had TWO power burners, and BOTH were higher output than anything else I had seen! The other one had more fancy buttons and a larger oven cavity. (5.8 cubic ft on the other stove compared to 5.0 on this). I found myself thinking 5.8 would be nice, but not necessarily a necessity, and I kept looking at all the usable cooktop space on this one. I also noticed that the bottom drawer is larger on this stove because with 5.8 cubic feet of oven on the other one, there was little room left for much of a bottom drawer... I went back home and did more research. Turned out the only button on the other stove I really wanted was the keep warm button. However, I found that keep warm on most ovens is about 165-175 degrees, and this oven goes down to 170, so no dedicated "keep warm button", but with a few extra pushes to dial the temp down to 170, it does the keep warm function just fine. I figured I could live with that. I was also super intrigued by the steam clean feature. My appliance repair guy told me a long time ago to never use the normal self-clean button on an oven because it heats everything to temperatures approaching the surface of the sun and can fry the electronics in the oven. I didn't listen to him. Hence I was looking for a new oven! So how does it compare to my expectations now that I've used it a while? Perfectly. The larger griddle is definitely what I needed. The nonstick surface is amazing to use. I opted to spend an extra $50 on the third (center) grate, so I can keep the griddle tucked away where it won't get scratched up and that gives me a HUGE useful amount of cooktop to work from when I want or need it. I put a standard meat thermometer in the oven when I first got it, set the oven to 200 degrees and it dialed up to exactly 203 degrees on my thermometer. The convection bake works beautifully for doing pizzas and cookies that aren't burnt on the outside and not done enough on the inside. Stuff just comes out so much better with convection cooking. The power burners are super powerful, yet can be fine tuned down pretty precisely. Honestly, I don't think I've used either of the smaller burners yet! The steam clean function is a nice convenience. It reduces oven cleaning from something you put off till things are horrible inside your oven to a simple and easy part of normal house chores which you can do once a week of once a month or whatever before anything gets out of hand. The control panel features are pretty basic compared to some other ovens I was considering, but overall this stove is by far more useful in every respect, and I don't really need a button for chicken nuggets or one for pizza! Last thing: I saw other reviews that said the bottom drawer is flimsy. It definitely isn't built like a tank, but mine is loaded with a lot of stuff, including the heavy 3rd grate sometimes, and it holds up, opens and closes and slides just fine. If there were anything bad to say about this oven I'd say it, but I shopped around a ton and couldn't find anything that came close to the amount of USEFUL features this oven has for doing real-world cooking and baking for the price I paid on sale. If I were actually going to spend $1100 for an oven, I would shop that price range and the story might be different, but for the black Friday sale price this blew everything away and has not disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love This Oven! Ours is a Propane gas range and oven. The first thing I baked in the oven was an apple pie. We used the convection oven setting, and the crust was light, flaky and evenly golden top and bottom! Then we made a boiled ham dinner, and I love how there is a larger burner for bringing large pots of water to boil quickly! I Had the ham and the potatoes boiling in separate pots on the stove top, with the green bean casserole and stuffing baking in the oven, then added dinner rolls on the lower shelf beneath the casserole and everything cooked perfectly. I haven't had this stove long enough to need to use the self cleaning feature in the oven, but I am looking forward to using the steam clean setting when the time comes. The range top cleans up very simply and easily with a simple wipe up. The next feature we used was the center griddle on the range top to make grilled cheese sandwiches for the entire family. We only needed six sandwiches, but could have fit more on the griddle if we needed more. I am a happy camper and recommend this stove to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am quite pleased with this gas range. After using an electric range for nearly 30 years, it is... I am quite pleased with this gas range. After using an electric range for nearly 30 years, it is great to get back to "cooking with gas"! With gas, less is always more. GE has some innovative features which include an automatic oven (oven turns off after set timer has expired) and there's a convection oven feature that automatically calculates the convection temperature. For me, the best/neatest feature is the "griddle in the middle". I've only had the stove about two weeks and have already tired making grilled cheese and reuben sandwiches, french toast and a porterhouse steak -- all of which came out great! I'm looking forward to trying grilled swordfish in the not too distant future. Stove-top cleanup is really easy + there's a self-cleaning oven (and a steam clean option) available. I haven't tried that as of yet, but is a rather novel concept! Also, after making 7 dozen wedding cookies for a bake sale, I made another batch using the new gas oven. The difference in texture -- and taste -- was amazing. I'm a happy camper!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer Beware Range burners are great but oven is complete joke. Temperature is lower than seen on the touch pad 'screen', convection 'feature' is absolutely useless and does not change the cooking time (how can it when the convection fan doesn't go on for more than 3 seconds before turning off?). Opening the oven door (which you have to do because there is no light when the glass-fronted yet non-transparent door is closed) unleashes various beeps and blinks and sometimes unsets the settings and sends it into 'preheat' mode (as well as lets a blast of heat out--great when you are baking a cake or some other leavened thing!), so you have to fumble around with the chinzty and counter-intuitive touch pad to reset everything. I still haven't figured out what the "PUSH ON" command means, since there is no "on" button on the touch pad. Amazed that Home Depot didn't thoroughly test this oven with real cooks before enthusiastically pushing it as an unbelievable value--one extra high BTU burner is not worth all of the other headaches!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love, Love, Love this stove I just recently replaced my stove of 21 years with the GE Adora Gas range..I searched for quite a while for a stove that would really fit my families needs. This stove is the one. I love he features of the convection oven and my favorite part, the griddle. My son wants pancakes, french toast or eggs most days for breakfast and this built in griddle is the best for doing that. It heats up evenly with the large burner under the griddle and clean up is so easy. i can either put it in my sink and everything cleans off quickly or if it's something simple like french toast I can just wipe it clean. The other feature I really like is the self cleaning oven using just a cup of water. I like the fact that we are getting away from using harsh chemicals in my home especially when using the self cleaning feature on the oven. I felt like I had to open every window in my home when I used the self cleaning feature on my old stove.

We our enjoying the convection oven. Side note,if home depot delivers and installs they will not hook up to propane or do the conversion for you. I was able to convert and install it myself. $$

We did a conversion to Propane, once everything was changed over and all the connections were correctly made, there hasn't been a single problem. As mentioned, works great - would recommend to others
