ARe most still pleased with this refrigerator. I plan on buying it and would like to hear from people who have had it for a while.

I initially had a problem with it running all the time, but that was solved once the seal was correctly seated. The doors were intentionally reversed during intallation (so that the hinge was moved from right to left). That change left the seal not quite working correctly. The repair person fixed it. Now it controls temperature well. Like most new efficient units, it does seem to run a lot. It is also noisier than I expected. Not terrible, but noticeable when sitting in the kitchen and the house is quiet. Overall, I'm satisfied.

Can you order it with the door installed to open on the right?

Hello sidekick - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. This refrigerator comes with the hinges on the right; however, the door swing can be reversed. Instructions for doing so can be found in the Installation Instructions. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Can this fridge be transported in its side?

Asked by Prospect April 1, 2016

Answer

Hi Prospect- This is Sue at GE Appliances. When loading the refrigerator in a moving van, truck, etc., it is best to keep it standing upright. If laying the refrigerator on its side cannot be avoided, it is important to secure the components inside the refrigerator to prevent possible damage (unless crated). When using a dolly or hand truck, always truck from the side. Possible damage could occur if trucked from the front or rear. Should it be necessary to lay the unit down, lay it on its side. If it has been necessary to transport the refrigerator on its side, it should be stood upright for an equal amount of time as it was on its side before plugging it in. If on its side for more than a day, leave standing for 24 hours before running. We do not recommend laying the refrigerator on its back. Thanks for checking with us!

Is there an option to get an additional drawer for the refrigerator?

Door swing / wall space

Asked by tara March 10, 2016
1
Answer

Hi tara- This is Sue at GE Appliances. Thanks for viewing our Artistry Series! If the adjacent wall or cabinets are deeper than the refrigerator case depth (depth w/o doors), the doors will not be able to open. To be able to fully access the drawers, the door(s) will need to open to 90 degrees. To be able to remove drawers, the doors must be able to open fully. If the door needs to be opened more than 90 degrees, 17" clearance is needed. Check out the Quick Specs for dimensions: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/ef/eff48cb9-f794-446b-a439-c242fc727a36.pdf- Thanks for checking with us!

DO NOT BUY IF YOU LIVE IN HUMID/HOT CLIMATE AND MUST SWITCH DOOR SWING
First of all, Home Depot and GE BOTH get 5 stars for their OUTSTANDING customer service! Unfortunately I have to give this refrigerator only 1 star. I ordered the frig and it was delivered promptly but within 24 hours the bottom freezer started to build up 'snow' and condensation. Now I must say this: I did have the door swing changed from what the manufacturer shows in this photo above. Due to my kitchen's make-up, the door of the freezer and top frig had to swing out to the left, not right. The delivery people switched the doors to swing left for both the frig and freezer. I had NO problem with the frig. I had to complain about the freezer and thus received a new appliance with the doors once again changed to open left not right. This second GE Artistry appliance unfortunately ALSO had the same problem within 24 hours. HD suggested I try another appliance brand and I did. I bought another brand with bottom freezer frig with a pull out drawer. It's absolutely fine and works great. I would have loved to have been able to keep the GE but maybe since I live in Southern FL, the heat and humidity was just too much and the freezer section didn't have appropriate rubber door sealants on the freezer section. So no I cannot recommend the product but maybe it's just due to my own circumstance......it sure is a lovely looking appliance.

Best Refrigerator Ever
I love the style so much - it doesn't look like most refrigerators. Love the bottom freezer.

Worst fridge (and company) of all time!
We bought this fridge in 2014 thinking it would be in our home for the next 10+ years. I loved the style so much and for about a year, it was perfect. Right when the one year manufacturer warranty was up, our fridge stopped cooling. We did some research online and suddenly found out how common this problem is. The sealing around the doors are subpar, we had noticed that if we let the fridge door shut too hard the freezer would pop open! We tried to be aware of this and make sure everything was closed properly all the time, but it would still happen. The freezer blower would freeze up and the fridge would be as warm as our house by the time we woke up and realized things hadn't been working all night. Once unplugged, we could let it sit for 12-15 hours and plug it back in and it would work again. We went through this over the next few years probably 10 times (maybe more). Every single time we lost $100's worth of groceries. It was awful. The last time it happened it never would turn back on. I'm guessing the motor finally blew. What a waste of such a beautiful fridge. We tried reaching out to GE on multiple occasions and I can honestly say their customer service is the WORST I've ever experienced. Emails went ignored and we were actually hung up on several times in a row when we tried to call. It was awful. I will never buy another GE appliance as long as I live, no matter how good the reviews are. They are literally the worst company ever and they do not care if they sold a terrible quality appliance to you. We didn't even get one year out of this fridge without issue. After six, we had to buy a new one. When you spend over $1200 on an appliance, you expect it's going to last at least a decade. Don't make the same mistake we did. STAY AWAY FROM GE LIKE YOUR LIFE (AND BANK ACCOUNT) DEPEND ON IT!

Response from GE AnswersJan 14, 2021
Hello Roh1111 - Thank you for sharing your experience with your refrigerator. It is very disappointing to hear the issues you have had with the unit over the years and hope we can earn your trust back in the future. It is not unusual on a two-door refrigerator for one door to pop open when the other door is being closed. The refrigerator and freezer sections are connected by air channels to allow air to pass between them. Slamming a door shut forces air from one cavity into the other, often pushing the second door open. To help with this, we recommend making sure the unit is leveled so that the front is 1/4" higher than the rear. Also, keeping heavier items in the door will help provide a counter weight. Please let us know if we can assist in the future. - John@GEAppliances GE_Appliances

Beautiful Refrigerator - I loved it!!
Love my refrigerator. I loved the black and chrome and the amount of space inside. However, after only 4 years it the refrigerator part just quit working. Pretty disappointing for the price I paid for it. I hope to get this issue resolved so I can keep it. :)

Not Very Pleased
I have been trying to find the right temp so my vegetables and whatever other foods I put in the crisper drawers wont freeze. It has been frustrating

Love it
I purchased my beautiful ref. Jan,2017. It goes so wonderful with my antique cook stove that I use just electrified the burners. I love the old fashion look with the modern convinces. One problem, door are reversiable but not the handles. Odd,I switched anyways since all is there to do so.( screw holes etc.) Just wish they would of made to handle covers in steel not plastic.

I love the retro look of it
It's a great size for our kitchen because it's not too big . I love the look of it and there is enough room inside . I just wish that the freezer door had storage in the door . I feel like its wasted space .
