Questions & Answers

Does the water from the supply have to be turned off before removing and replacing the filter cartridge?

Asked by: JSB
No, but you will be relying on a 15c piece of plastic to prevent thousands of dollars of flood damage to your kitchen. If you like to gamble, don't walk outside and turn off the water, up to you.

After only 2 days why is water pressure low? Hot water side is fine

Reinstalled it again and same results
Asked by: Yoyo
Filter clogs on cold and not hot because it filters only the cold water. If the filter is not defective the problem is very dirty water and it is filling up the filter pores. This reduces the available water flow. If you have city water: has the water supply co. flushed the pipes lately? this disturbs the sediment and rust in the street pipes which then goes to the filter. Has there been a large fire in you neighborhood lately? This will do the same thing. If you have a well have it checked. There are several possibilities including: rusted pipes; broken point screen; pump problems; or unusually silty soil. Two weeks ago the water company flushed the neighborhood underground water supply mains. My filter clogged with a resultant reduced water flow. I could tell to the exact day when they flushed these pipes just by the reduced flow at the faucet.

Asked by: bunny
No. Check "Material Safety Sheet". This used to be called the " Material Safety Data Sheet"

I have a GE replacement filter GXULQ and beds to replace but no instructions came with filter on how to replace

Asked by: JoJo
Instructions came with the original product. If you buy the whole system replacement kit, you will find instruction enclosed. The old filter could be twisted off and installed by twisted. If you wear a pair of non-skid gloves, you will have more grip in turning the filter off and on.

This cartridge filter is extremely difficult to re- install onto the filter housing. The round cartridge body is hard to grip and twist off as outlined in the instruction provided on the box. The replacement cartridge should have notches on the filter body, so a spanner wrench can be used to loosen and tighten the filter onto the housing. Also noticed a drop in cold water pressure even after the new cartridge was installed.

The original filter that came with the filter system only last 20 days before it clogged and only a trickle ran from the faucet. This new one we purchased seems to be working fine and we are a few days from using it a full month. I dont see it lasted 6 months like the product says but we will see.

Package says no need to turn water supply off, don’t believe it. I flooded my under sink cabinet and floor. The last one was replaced three months before the water tasted like it came out of a garden hose.

You have to be a pretty strong person to pull off the old filter and the new installation is just a judgement call. Test it to make sure it's not leaking when you get through.
