Questions & Answers

Water Supply Material and Water Filter Placement

Can this filter be hooked up to braided steel tubing with standard fittings? Or, would an adaptor be necessary to convert the standard to a compression fitting? Also, why is it necessary to install the water filter as close to the supply valve as possible? Thank you, MV
Asked by: MV
No this filter is not adaptable to steel tubing. Our filter is not next to the supply valve. The water hook up is under the sink. the flexible tubing runs about two feet through the cabinet, behind the range and lays on the floor, and then the tubing is connected to the refrigerator..

When you have old, arthritic hands, they are tough to hold on to. Flushed the filter as per instructions, been some weeks and still getting a funny taste in the water.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Change a Good Design First ordered the GXRTQ that had the quick install connections. Then they came out with the GXRTQR repalcement model that only had the end nipples and I had to buy brass male and female fittings to make it work. Now they eliminate the end nipples and threaded ends and go to a slide in model (GXRTDR) to connect the plastic tubing. The quick connection idea is a good idea because it makes the job easy to install and because of that people will want to order the same product each time. GE keeps changing the design and people get frustrated because they are expecting to get the same product each time and it keeps changing. Thus the old auto mechanic saying applies here "If it is not broke don't try to fix it".

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Useless We're on that program where we automatically receive a new filter when time to change on our ice maker. Problem is GE changed the style of line connections on the new filter. Eliminated the GXRTQR with QXRTDR. I can't change the filter until I replace the entire water line system from supply to filter. Then again from filter to ice machine. This ****DR filter is useless to me. The QR filter was so easy to replace too. Who's stupid idea was it to do this? Like a previous review said "If it ain't broke.. don't fix it"!!! If I had the option to rate it a zero I would.

It is supposed to replace model GXRTQR and GXRTQ filters. After disconnecting the old compression easy snap clip ends, which I found to be efficient and easy to change, I ensured the ends of the tubing were round and not crushed as well as the ends were cut flush and contained no burrs, I had to fight to connect the new GXRTDR filter, even after following all the directions. I ensured the tubing was pressed flush and seated against the stop inside the filter. After an hour of changing to yet another inlet/outlet design, I turned the water on, only to have the water leak all over the place. Finally I changed back to the old system. This is absolutely the cheapest and worst design I have ever seen.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bring back the GXRTQ inline filter The GXRTDR has no fittings to quick connect/release the water line. GE says GXRTDR replaces it, but there are no instructions how to adapt it. Please bring back the GXRTQ inline filter

It is apparent that GE did not have their customer in mind when they re-designed this water filter. My water supply line is NOT 1/4" tubing. Therefore, much to my dismay, the new filter needed additional hardware to connect to my supply and refrigerator. If GE took the time to think of this, they could have 1.) made sure this issue was communicated to every customer at time of purchase to avoid this inconvenience, & 2.) offered an adaptor kit for this situation that could be bought at the time the filter was ordered and utilized the existing fittings from the older (replaced) filter. Simple!! This is why GE's stock is down 22%

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lousy replacement for GXRTQR filters This is a lousy replacement for GXRTQR filters. The GXRTDR has no fittings to quick connect to the water line. GE says GXRTDR replaces it, but there are no instructions how to adapt it.
