AnswerIf the area is still really hot from cooking, the fan automatically stays on until it is cooler, it will shut off on its own after things cool down. In fact, if you don't turn it on while cooking, if it gets hot enough, it will turn on the fan by itself. I assume that this is some kind of safety measure.

AnswersIf the measurement from the bottom of your cabinets to the top of the tile is greater than 17 5/16" then you may have to trim the tile.

Died after 2 years
We loved the look of this microwave. Our whole kitchen is GE slate appliances. The front panel is faulty though. After opening and closing over the first year, the panel started to turn off at times. We'd have to wiggle the panel to get the controls to work. Then by the end of the second year, the controls just stopped working completely. The interior light still comes on when you open the panel, so it's gotta be a short of some kind in the cable to the front panel.
I’m would have cost over $400 to replace the front panel. May as well buy a new microwave at that price... but we kind of locked ourselves in with GE's slate look, so we're stuck with choosing another GE one (we won't be getting this same one).
Was really sad this barely lasted two years and has now sat dead over our range for over a year. :(

DO NOT BUY, Died after 2 years.
After 2 years the unit died. Keeps tripping the breaker. When I tried to reset the breaker the first time it scorched the plug. This is the second GE appliance to die after two years the first was my GE Dishwasher.
