Hi Rhonda - Thanks for viewing GE Profile PHP9036BMTS! This cooktop is an Induction, Ceramic Glass cooktop with a Black Stainless Patterned Surface. The PHP9036BMTS is not coated with a fingerprint resistant finish. However, the Black Stainless Patterned Surface does help to reduce the appearance of fingerprints on the cooktop surface. We'd love to have you in the family. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
Hi Lindsey - Thanks for considering GE Profile Model # PHP9036BMTS! The cooktop does not have black stainless trim. The cooktop has a "brushed" look to coordinate with other black stainless appliances that are "brushed" metal. It is not "flat" black like model PHP9036DJBB. We suggest to click on the photo and enlarge for a better view. We’d love to have you in the family. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue

Hi there, Jay - This is such a great question! Yes, in order to create the magnetic field and heat the cooktop, the bottom of the cookware must have some iron content. The best way to determine whether a pan will work is with a magnet. If the magnet sticks to the bottom, the cookware will work on an induction cooktop. We hope this helps. Thanks so much for checking! -Mikayla@GEA
