I believe this is the size of breaker I need. I have an old 200 amp GE Load Center of 40 single pole circuits, that is maxed out of room. I need to replace them with an Arc Fault Breaker to get up to code for an inspection. Does GE make a breaker this size but with new NEC codes of having arc fault protection? If GE doesn't make it, does anyone know who and where i could find a replacement? I'd prefer not to have to spent $4000 to update the breaker panel if i don't need to!

This breaker is a half wide breaker so 2 will fit in a normal breaker slot for GE. This breaker is used when all your slots are full and you need to add a new line or 2. pull the original full width breaker and pop in 2 breakers in the same slot. One to replace the breaker you just removed and one for the new service line.

what are the number of #12 copper wires that the terminal will accept according to its UL listing

Asked by: gator
This is not a code issue, but a manufacturer's issue. GE had designed and had this breaker U.L. Listed to accept one conductor.

Is this breaker what is referred to as a pancake breaker that you can get 2 20 amp breaker in box where there is one 20 amp now?

Asked by: dusty
I never heard the term "pancake" breaker before. This is simply a half size breaker that will fit SOME GE loadcenters where the panel label says it will accept Type THQP breakers. In those loadcenters that do accept these breakers, two 1/2" wide breakers will fit in one 1" space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never had a problem with these. Free up room in my panel I'd give an extra star for value if I could. I don't understand why some breakers are so expensive. I have a number of these in use and they are flawless. They save space as long as your panel supports them. I've heard people knock their use, but have never heard a valid reason as to why, when ... again ... my panel supports them.
