If I plan on using a small amount over a period of a month or two, how do I keep the remaining silicone adhesive good in the tube? Or once it's open, I need to use it that day? Does anyone have any tips since they don't sell this is smaller quantities.
Asked by: Jk
The screw idea does not work that good. Instead get a wax toilet ring and sink the pointed end of the caulk tube into the wax at least a 1/2 inch. This seals all the air from getting into the caulk. you can repeat this a hundred times. A cheap wax ring will cost you a few bucks, just store it until you need it again..........ALF

Used this product to adhere plastic sliding door tracks to cabinets made from melamine. I've built quite a few of these cabinets over the last several years and not a single failure yet. I abraded the plastic door tracks and cleaned everything with denatured alcohol before assembly. No clamping was required. My only regret is that I need more and the product is currently out of stock.

It is very easy to work with and has amazing properties and applications. I use it for electrical applications and plumbing. I've even used it for shoe repairs. And it does not weather over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly Sticks Where Other Won't I have used many different caulks and sealants on my double wall wood stove pipe and nothing has held and sealed the storm collar joint. The problem I was having, the junction where the wood stove pipe met the weather collar has a small uneven gap with a vertical seam running thru the gap. The two pieces are exposed to weather extremes with high wind and would develop a small leak within days. The leak was more of a nuisance since it just ran down onto the top of the wood stove. I removed all the old caulk and spread a bead of Iron Grip Adhesive around the outside of double wall pipe then seated the collar down into the new Iron Grip Adhesive. So far after a month of really rough weather the sealant looks to be in prefect condition. The Iron Grip Adhesive seems to have a much better adhesive properties and stretches better with temperature changes. All the others would let go of the pipes smooth surface within days, with Iron Grip Adhesive its not letting go.

I read all the reviews of this and other products that are used for this purpose. I decided to use the silicone because the fear of discoloring the plastic enclosure. I looked at it as, I could do it over but did not want to mess up the mid grade shower stall I used. I was worried it would not hold or I would not do it exactly as per instructed. I didn't but it worked anyway and has held well. The bathroom is finished and we have taken many showers and the walls are well in place. I did do a lot of 2 X 4 cutting and shimming to get good pressure on the lines of caulk to stay stuck to the wall studs as it was drying. I even used bar clamps in reverse to keep pressure. I did not take any chances I let it dry for a couple of days. I should point out that another review states it is just like regular silicone caulk, and it does look and feel like typical silicone caulk, but I noticed it was not like any other GE caulk as all their other caulk comes in plastic tubes and this comes in a foil and craft paper tube like the old fashion caulks, so I suspect they don't make it the same as they make the rest of their silicone line.

We use this all the time to adhere wood, and steel, to solid surface on the underside of the countertops that we manufacture. If you're using it on vertical applications, put a dab of hot melt to hold it until it cures. If the assembly is large, it may take longer to cure. I have pulled apart assemblies where we used standard silicone. These assemblies have sat for well over 24 hours and the silicone is still very wet. Us Iron Grip and some hot melt to glue a piece of square tubing to solid surface, and when you pull it apart, only with a pry bar, it will almost break the solid surface. When mounting an undermount sink, any silicone used is just to seal it. They make special bolt assemblies to actually attach the sink. No silicone in the world is going to hold a sink full of water running a garbage disposal. Not going to happen. Test before you use on a project. Scuff the project, especially smooth plastic, with coarse sandpaper, and clean with denatured alcohol to remove any grease and prep the surface. While not a cure-all, the stuff works pretty good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenominal exterior adhesive This silicone clear adhesive was used in conjunction with bird repellant spikes for our roof. It was extremely quick drying & has been able to withstand very strong winds. We live within two miles of the beach & always have strong breezes. Tropical Storm Hermine is still lingering off the coast & the spikes are still intact. I would recommend this product highly. My only issue was that since the tubing is cardboard one of the tubes collapsed immediately after opening. It is very reasonably priced so this issue truly did not concern me. To the DIYers this adhesive dries very quickly, therefore use small amounts to attach the item. Then apply to the next area as needed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick, Strong Bond! This Iron Grip adhesive worked great. I used Iron Grip to bond two pieces of wood. It bonds quickly with high strength. It began forming a bond within a few seconds. Within a half hour, the bond was very strong. The bond is strong enough that when you bond two pieces of wood together, the wood might crack and break before the bond breaks. I highly recommend this adhesive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best silicone adhesive on the market This IRON GRIP 10.1 OZ. CLEAR SILICONE ADHESIVE definitely lives up to name. I used this adhesive recently to repair a broken passenger side mirror assembly on an older SUV truck. In addition to reusing the original screws that pulled out of the plastic housing I also wanted to try this product for additional adhesion as well as a sealant. Once I applied the product to the vehicle door frame and attached the mirror, the product instantly gripped and held the mirror intact which was like an extra hand. By the time I tightened the screws (about 10 minutes) the product was already in a rubberized state. The mirror is still holding strong a week later and I can think of several projects where this product will come in handy!
