Hello - Thank you for your question; we are happy to help. This model is only certified to work with the provided quick connects. Any other fittings, such as PVC/CPVC, could damage the unit and/or cause structural integrity issues. You may want to reach out to a certified plumber if you have concerns or need further help. Thanks for checking. Olga@GEA

Hi Max - Thanks for reaching out to us and for considering this Smart filtration system for your home. We apologize for any confusion on flow rate and are happy to answer this for you. This system has a Rated Filtered Water Flow of 4 (gpm). This number indicates the flow rate at which the filter reduction claims are tested. However, this rating is not the limit, as the system has a Maximum Filtered Water Flow of 12 (gpm). This is the expected maximum flow rate through the system given ideal conditions and pressures. The filters in whole-home systems have very low pressure drop, so you will likely not notice a significant difference to your current flow rate. You can learn more about these ratings within the system's Specification Guide. We hope that this helps to clarify! -Eliza@GEA

Asked by lancetb December 5, 2020

Answer

The red button may be underneath the unit, where the water lines come in. If you have the "in" on the right, the red button will be underneath. If you have the "in" on the left, it will be on the top. You depress the red button to release pressure. Some water will squirt out. And don't forget to turn the handle on the front to the "off" position. It will be 180 degrees in the up position when rotated. Then you depress the button on the lift handle to unlock the filter. Bear in mind, it is going to be a bit difficult to raise the unlock handle. You may have to raise/lower the handle several times including pressing the red button on the back. The filter housing is really locked in.

What does this actually filter out?

Asked by Tina September 9, 2020

Answer

I realize it’s often easier to ask, but all of this information is available on the Home Depot App and you’re not relying on some homeowner, such as myself, to interpret important information. Depending on the cartridge you choose (the GE FHTLM is the best), it will filter particulate down to .5 microns, lead and chlorine taste. None will remove bacteria. I rely on the Home Depot App for all product information. I find it to be the very best App of it’s kind.

Unit leaks
After 2 months installation unit started to leak not from the oring or filter canister it's from the actual unit. Even worst has been 3 days leaking and unit hasn't detect the leak no leak message or notification. Very confusing because the app shows if you want notification for small leaks medium or large then at the beginning pop out a warning message stated this product won't detect small leaks. I won't recommend to buy this unit. Three days has been passed and no help from support.

GE appliance whole house filter
The price of unit is fair, minus the additional parts required for install. Follow the steps to setup wifi, download the app from manual via device and follow steps. After install and running water for 30mins I already noticed a hugh difference in taste and smell due to city water. Will need GFCI receptacle located close for power of device.

Better than bottled water.
I did not install mine, as I have old plumbing and the main source from city was in crawl space. I had a plumber install as well as a water softener. This is connected to the main line before any water even enters the house. All faucets, appliances, and hose hookups now have clean filtered water. This water is now better tasting and safer than any bottled water.

Easy to install
Very user friendly and good quality! It hangs nicely on the wall. Is compact and doesn’t take up space like other products do.

Notifications are accurate and useful!
This was a great addition to my water system! Within 2 weeks from install, I received a medium continuous flow notification on my phone via the GE app. I was 25 minutes away at work at the time. Fearful that I may have had a leak, I instantly used the remote water shutoff via the app. Upon arriving at home, the shutoff worked to perfection. After turning it back on, I fortunately realized one of my toilet’s was continuously running through the cycle process and fixed accordingly. The notifications are accurate and useful no matter how big or small an issue may be!

Product works smoothly even the wifi too. Had to get a  plumber to install it since it’s the first time putting a filtration system in our house. Even plumber was very impressed, he said would recommend it to his customers.

Okay, I cannot stress this enough...read the instructions before you buy this whole house water filtration system. Installation is straightforward with the included, easy to follow, instructions. When I ordered mine instructions were not available on my HD App, as they are now. If you are replacing a whole house filtration system the process will be easier, but, please read the instructions. Starting from scratch, it might be a bit more than you bargained for...for instance, an incoming water line that is not readily accessible. I'm not suggesting that it's impossible, but it might be more than a DIY'er wants to tackle. So, you decide to take the plunge and spend a sizable amount of money on the housing (though it is very well made, and the easiest one I have ever owned when it comes to cartridge replacement), you still need a cartridge. Depending on what you want to remove from your water, it can add up to another $50...every 3 months. This is to be expected, however. Any filter housing requires (suggests) that cartridges be replaced at this interval, so this isn't criticism, just an observation. Now, about those instructions...they are not clear when discussing WiFi connectivity. Mine has a WiFi sticker on the housing which led me to believe that I was good to go. But, they further state that if you have an external connection port (looks like an Ethernet port), you require a GE ConnectPlus Module. When I contacted GE about this their response was that I did need the module. Dang! But wait! On a hunch I downloaded the GE App on my phone and plugged the power supply into the housing. It immediately found my WiFi network and began communicating with my phone. Voila! I guess if I had one recommendation it would be for GE to review their instructions for this pretty nifty product. Does it filter water? It certainly does! I added the FTHLM cartridge that filters down to .5 microns which surprises me that water can get through. Just kidding. And, I've found that our filters actually last longer than the average 3 months, which says something for our city's water system. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

This whole house water filter is Wi-Fi connected which gives it some really great features that can save you a lot of money and headaches. You don't need any extra devices to connect to your network as this model, GXWH70M has built in Wi-Fi. There are three different filter cartridges you can choose that range in price and the amount of things they filter.. The most notable feature is that you can shut off the valve remotely using your phone provided the filter has power and is connected to the Internet, and the leak occurs downstream of the filter. If there's a leak it can alert you. There are three different flow alerts and you can customize how long the leak has to occur before the alert is sent. There's low, which would be something like a toilet running or faucet left on, medium which might be someone taking a shower or high which could be a burst pipe or multiple showers running. The app can also alert you if the pipes freeze. There are currently three different filters you can use with this filter system that range in price from $20 to $50 as I'm writing this. All the filters are tested and certified to NSF/ANSI standards - FTHPM is just a particulate filter that filters down to 30 microns. - FTHTM filters particles down to 5 microns and has carbon to reduce chlorine taste. - FTHLM filters particles down to 0.5 microns, chlorine as well as lead. The least expensive two filters have a pressure drop of 8-9 PSI while the FTHLM which also filters lead has a larger pressure drop of 25PSI. If you have low pressure to begin with and you want to filter lead this is important to keep in mind. Filters need to be changed every 3 months or 15-20 thousand gallons depending on the filter. The system is rated for 125PSI but they recommend addressing the pressure if the pressure is greater than 80PSI as nighttime pressure can exceed the specifications. The specs can change so check with your The kit comes with quick connect fittings to attach to 3/4" pipe. The instructions are easy to follow but lacking when it comes to connecting the app or even which app you should use. A QR code would have been nice. If you want to be able to filter your water in your whole house so you have filtered water in all your faucets and showers this is a nice system that you can access from your phone. It can also alert you about a number of different conditions that can lead to a lot of damage in your home, thus potentially saving you a lot of money.
