Questions & Answers

Possible causes for low to no flow?

We have replaced the pre and post filter twice, the membrane, auto shut off valve. I just did another test to rule something out: I let it fill up for an hour and turned the water off, the spicket on, and only a half cup of water was total.. Could it be the tank? we have already replaced the unit once due to some other issue 3 years ago, this is getting annoying. Please any help is appreciated.

Is a continuous runoff of water into the drain expected ?

I've installed the system and emptied the tank thrice. I still hear water running into the drain. Is it normal for water to be running through the system even when the tank is full ? If not, how do I fix it ?

I had RO system for ~5 year and the drain was on and off...Then, I replaced it with a new one and noticed that the water wasted would never stop. I put a 6 gallons bucket to collect the waste water under the sink, and the bucket was filled in ~1hr and 15 min. That is more than 3,000 gallons wasted per month. I disconnected it, and I'm planning to replace it with a different RO. PureValue 5EZ50 Five Stage RO System

How does this filtration system work?

Does it use any chemicals to filter the water? Exactly what is the filter made of?
Asked by: Sharon
It works by forcing the water through special membranes that only allow water to pass, and trap all impurities. There are good informational videos here

Doesn't filter water nearly as well as my old 10 stage filter that I hooked to the end of my faucet. I had to flush the RO tank about four times to reduce a plastic taste in the water. After that, the RO water still has a taste to it. Installation instructions are vague so I found some youtube videos that helped. Others have also mentioned the O-ring in for the RO filter just fell out when I opened it and there were no instructions to say where it should go. I sprayed water all over my countertop and was barely able to wrench off the cap to re-install the O-ring. The final carbon filter started leaking water about 15 minutes after I turned the water on. I had to tighten it more to eliminate the leak. I'm very disappointed and wasted many hours installing, disinfecting, and flushing this system. I don't want to triple my water bill or drink tainted water so now I have to spend more hours to uninstall the RO system and return it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a very difficult installation and should only be... This is a very difficult installation and should only be done by a professional plumber or very experienced DIYer. Instructions are poor. Some plumbing pieces must be added to the existing plumbing. The water pressure of the house must be determined and then the bladder in the tank must be pumped up to match that pressure. Other than that the system works well. Remember it takes about five gallons of ROM water to make one gallon of drinking water so there is a lot of waste. Replacing the filters is difficult and expensive. The sumps are hard to unscrew. You are given a plastic wrench to unscrew them which breaks easily. Had to use a good wide pair of channel lock pliers to remove the sumps and replace the filters on my old system. The holding tank is fairly large (2.3 gallons) and might not fit easily around a garbage disposal or any plumbing that hangs down. ROM systems also remove minerals from the water which can affect the taste and health benefits. Although the water does taste fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best birthday present EVER! I purchased this product as a birthday gift for myself and I can honestly say it is one of the best purchases I have made in a very long time. I use to fill up 6 gallons of water for the kitchen every 4-5 days. I use filtered drinking water for cooking, cleaning fruit and veggies, coffee and obviously drinking. I now only keep 2 gallons, 1 for the counter and 1 for the fridge. The installation was extremely easy with the exception of having to find a way to tap into my existing cold water line. I have the plastic (PEX) line and I had to buy a T-Splitter and multiple adapters to reduce the size down to 1/4". But aside from that, everything else was easy connect fittings. It even comes with a pipe piece to go on the down pipe/drain for the waste water so you don't have to use an unsafe saddle tap line. Looks very professional and works great. It is a bit noisy when it is making water on account of the waste water being close to the drain opening on my configuration, but after a few weeks, you don't even hear it. Very happy with this product! For $150 bucks you cant beat the value!

So much information is missing that the instructions are more misleading than they are helpful. Pair that with the fact that they don't include all of the pieces that you need for the 2nd type of installation that they recommend so you have to make a trip, or 10, to the hardware store. I will never purchase another GE filtration system

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this unit I had one in my last home I had one that was a whole house unit that also went through my refrigerator so I do miss that function since my water isn't nice & cool like the one I previously owned otherwise I love it the only down side the plumber that installed it for me said he would never install another one due to all the items he had to ensure was piped correctly.

I picked it from the store and installed it few weeks earlier without much difficulties. Works well and the water surely tastes better. The only challenge is that the faucet is always in steel color which is different from the other faucet on the kitchen which is chrome finish. There should be a color option for the faucet.

It is not only massive and fills up most of the space under the sink but It also wastes tense of gallons of good water per day by discharging and sending it down the drain.
