it states that it uses carbon spun fiber for the filtration method. what does that mean?

Asked by ralph December 10, 2019

Hi Ralph, We are finding that the carbon is wound or spun around a base, creating layer after layer of filtration. This is to ensure that you are getting the best filtration possible. Thank you very much for your question! -Michael

No, it is a filter not a soft water system. It does a nice job of getting rid of chlorine in the water.

How to replace the filter after six months?

Asked by Linny November 7, 2017

Answers

Hi Linny- Thanks for choosing GE! We are happy to help. Turn off the water to the filtration system. Remove the filter housing by turning counterclockwise. Be sure to support the shower pipe and the filter housing and base during the filter removal to avoid damage to the system. NOTE: Some water may drip from the system during filter cartridge removal. Pull the filter cartridge straight out of the housing and dispose. Remove the label at the bottom of the new filter; insert new filter cartridge into the filter base. Put the housing back on the base by turning the housing clockwise until it locks into place. Slowly turn on the water and check for leaks. I have also noticed I cannot find these or the filters at HD. So weird. I guess we will be ordering online unless they want us to shop elsewhere.

It depends on how much you use it. I change the filter as soon as the soap residue become visible noticeable in my bathroom sink which is usually every three or four months.

How often do I need to change the filter on the shower head and which one do I buy?

Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you with regard this shower water filtration system. The filter should be changed approximately every 6 months. However, the capacity will vary with local water conditions. The replacement filter is FXSCH. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Reduces water output greatly
I bought this since my hair had been getting sticky feeling, despite using many different types of clarifying and pH balancing shampoos. Multiple hairdressers recommended getting a shower filter, so I immediately headed to Home Depot. There were two options available, so I chose GE since it was cheaper. At first it worked pretty well since my hair stopped having the sticky problem, but then after a couple months it suddenly caused my water output to decrease DRAMATICALLY. It's literally been like showering under my sink faucet (just a small trickle of water). I thought it was a problem with my apartment's water pressure or water output, but I tested my roommate's shower and hers was completely fine. I finally took off the GE shower filter, and sure enough that was the problem. Without the filter, my shower went back to its normal amount of water output. I'm not sure why the filter would do this, but unless you want to be showering under a small trickle of water you should probably try a different product.
