The town's municipal water supply that I live in has TTHMs that exceed the max contaminant levels.

Doesn't do the job
I inadvertently ran out of activated charcoal filters when it was time to change our whole house filter. I bought this one as a temporary fix because it is the only one that is carried in my Home Depot store. But, it isn't working even as a temporary filter because it is so narrow that it will not stay seated in my filter housing. Most filters are 4.5 inches wide, but this one is a teeny little 2.4 inches, and it won't stay upright when twisting the housing closed (see attached photo).
And it is a good thing that I wanted this only as a temporary filter because it only has a capacity of 700 gallons (versus the 22,000 gallon capacity of the filter that I normally purchase). Since the average household uses 60 gallons of water per day per person, this filter would be used to capacity in a 2-person household after only 5.8 days before it needed to be replaced. This filter is so inadequate on so many levels that I don't know why Home Depot even sells it (much less having it be the ONLY carbon filter in the local store)!

Filters the taste of city provided water to taste like well water!
I used the GE Filer housing for my filters which I get in a two pack at Home Depot. Turning off water supply and using the filter wrench makes quick work of this job. I mark my household calendar when to change the filter and also the "calendar" on my computer.

Total garbage ripoff. Filters last 1 WEEK
these only last about a week week and a half and then they plug up and have to be changed. other carbon filters last a month or two. this product is a total rip off.

That definitely isn't typical life, unless you have some construction work happening in your neighborhood that could be causing them to get full of debris.
