Questions & Answers

How does this fit both 3/4" and 1"?

It states on the box that this is for 3/4" and 1" systems. Are there some sort of adapters included? Or is the housing dual threaded? It's hard to tell from the pictures.

What Filter would work on a small Hot Tub, The hot tub is about 200 gallons, I'm looking for a low priced universal filter I can install

Hi, I have a small Hot Tub that currently does not have a filter on it- I'm looking for a universal filter that I could mount on it. The water capacity is about 200 gallons, has a 1.5 HP motor and I have 3/4"-1" fittings and larger in certain areas. I'm looking for a basic filter that would help filter some things out. Would this unit work for my needs? Or if there is something else on Home Depot that would work, can someone suggest it. thanks. The Heater is 100,000 BTU Propane.

input temperature limit is 100 degrees --- so this probably would not be suitable.

Can this be installed with my old water softener connections?

Asked by: MD
I use this filter in front of my water softener. I do use the connections of the water softener right to the filter head however the filter is mounted to the wall.

Whole Home Water Filtration System is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 68.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Home Depot Issue...not product The product works great....the issue was Home Depot failing to stock parts for items they sell. I had to buy entire 50 dollar system to get O ring that cost about a dollar. When your seal fails you don't have the luxury of waiting days for them to order parts they should stock. If you sell an item you have an obligation to stock consumable parts for the item....wake up Home Depot. Lord I miss the old fashioned hardware store with employees who know their trade. What have we done by not keeping the small guys in business. Shame on us all!!!

Our plumber/furnace man recommended it. Within a couple days after installation we noticed water under it. We placed a container under it and it was leaking about 1/2 cup in 24 hours. We called him back and he found the red pressure release button on top has a slight leak. He removed the new filter element, cleaned what he could and said to get a different filter element. We did and when he came back and saw the red button still leaking without a element in it said the unit was defective. He took it off and made a temporary bypass pipe so we have water. He also tested our water pressure which showed 55 psi. GE rep was nice and said take it back to Home Depot for a replacement or parts to fix ? We've been dealing with Home Depot for years so we're hoping they take care of it. We only owned it around a month. Will review replacement.

Unfortunately, Home Depot does not carry the O-ring that you need to replace every couple of filter changes. They Used to carry it, but no more. That means you have to go to a local plumber with the old O-ring for comparison. So, your whole house water system is shut down for a couple of hours while you go chase the O-ring.

Installed two of these GE units in a home with well water that had natural iron leaching from the ground causing the water to have a brown color to it. In the first unit I installed a FXHSC filter & the second one I installed a FXHTC filter. After two weeks I checked the water and it was clear and the homeowner commented on how the water did not have any smell to it at all.

I have tried to use a competitors filter but it had issues and housing leaked. The GE housing is robust and the installation was easy. I had the GE filter before in house where I used to live I used it for years with out any issues. I wish they would put a place for the filter wrench, there is no place to hang it. It would be nice if they would design a pail to hang from the head when you remove the filter canister. This is still by far the best unit on the market it is made to work!!!

This was fairly easy for me to install ahead of my water softener to keep loose debris from entering the softener which had already begun after only two months since I installed the softener. I do have quite a bit of plumbing experience though. This should extend the life of the softener. All I had to buy extra was the fittings to go from the 1" connections on the filter housing to my 3/4" house plumbing, and the filter itself which was not included.
