    False advertising, no filtration.
I installed this to help reduce minerals for my hot water heater. I just tested the TDS and it is 516 PPM. HMM! I have run at leave 100 gallons through this so far. This IS NOT a good water filter and sadly wasted over $100 dollars and time to install a piece of junk. I have a normal fridge filter and it is at 400 PPM. Bottled water is 50 PPM with the exact same tester.

So far so good. Installed this downstream of my GE water softener. I would have given this 5 stars if they would have given the necessary fittings to make any sort of connections. I ended up spending 35 dollars on some plumbing fittings to get it hooked up.

Replaced a 15+ year filter housing to avoid problems with this one. Our plumber/furnace man recommended it. Within a couple days after installation we noticed water under it. We placed a container under it and it was leaking about 1/2 cup in 24 hours. We called him back and he found the red pressure release button on top has a slight leak. He removed the new filter element, cleaned what he could and said to get a different filter element. We did and when he came back and saw the red button still leaking without a element in it said the unit was defective. He took it off and made a temporary bypass pipe so we have water. He also tested our water pressure which showed 55 psi. GE rep was nice and said take it back to Home Depot for a replacement or parts to fix ? We've been dealing with Home Depot for years so we're hoping they take care of it. We only owned it around a month. Will review replacement.

Installed two of these GE units in a home with well water that had natural iron leaching from the ground causing the water to have a brown color to it. In the first unit I installed a FXHSC filter & the second one I installed a FXHTC filter. After two weeks I checked the water and it was clear and the homeowner commented on how the water did not have any smell to it at all.

Works great... noticed difference even is shower with better soap lather and wife shaving smoother right after install. Installed coupled with GE water softener (also from Home Depot) on output from this filter so appliances and water heater should last long time and water is perfectly clean. Simpler and smaller than big units... only difference is filter changed here every 3 months due to smaller size but overall same cost but less bulky and lighter weight to do everything yourself. Have city water fyi and absolutely no decrease in water pressure in house... at least none that I can detect anyway. I have cpvc in FL (no freezing) so no grounding involved like with copper, so make sure you have grounding jumper wire if set up like mine in picture but with copper (all install information clear in provided instructions showing copper water lines).

It's cheap because the filter cartridge nor the 3/4" couplings are included
The box suggest that this filter fits 3/4" and 1" pipe but the 3/4" coupling ($.95 x 2) should have been included. However, the box clearly indicated that the cartridge was not included, that was fine. It's like selling a piece of toy without battery, rather deceiving or trying to annoy a customer. Anyway, I got a 2-pack cartridge from a flea bay power seller at about 1/3 off, non-GE filter. Everything seems to work, though shower water pressure dropped slightly since we have well..

          Second house/Second Filter
This item is easy to install; made of good, heavy, quality materials, and functions flawlessly. This is the second house I have installed this system in. The reliability/efficiency of the first one is why I chose it for our new home.
