Really solid compression tester from GearWrench. Everything from the brass fittings to the 12” hose to the gauge itself appears solid and well made. Comes with two black oxide adapters for 14mm and 18mm spark plugs. Both adapters were made in the USA! Can buy other adapters (sold separately). The gauge itself is Taiwan. Gauge goes up to 300 psi (includes kPa markings as well) and has nice clear markings. Has an air hold valve to reset gauge. Of course it works flawlessly like most GearWrench automotive products.

This is a tool for everyone who has gas/oil combustion tools like blowers and string trimmers. It is the first and best way to see if your compression, the result of the cylinders firing, is up to spec when you cannot get the motor to run for any length of time. The process is simple: first find the compression specification from the owners manual, second attach the tester, third pull the cord several times after first clearing the tester.

This GearWrench Compression Tester is so much nicer than my old one was! Granted, my old one was old, but even when it was new, it leaked air, so I was never confident in the readings I got from it. This GearWrench Compression Tester is very well built by comparison. I love old vehicles, and do my own work, so this GearWrench Compression Tester will come in very handy. Besides giving you a reading of the compression of a particular cylinder on an engine, it is also good for comparing readings from cylinder to cylinder, which sometimes tells you more about the health of an engine than the reading of a single cylinder might. Depending on your vehicle, I would suggest wrapping the hose of your compression tester with a heat-proof material, to protect it from the heat of a hot exhaust cylinder. Needless to say, I learned that lesson the hard way long ago! Thanks GearWrench, and Home Depot!

The GearWrench Compression Tester is a tool I've been needing around my workshop. To test for accuracy, I checked against my pneumatic air compressor precision gauges. After ramping up the air regulator from 10# to 150# in 10# increments, I can report that the Gearwrench compression gauge was no more than 1\2# off at any of those settings...great accuracy! I now have checked my 2-cycle trimmer, blower and 4-cycle zero-turn landscape power tools for proper compression. With the included 14mm and 18mm cylinder head adapters, I'll be ready to check my auto performances when needed!

This compression tester works good and is easy to read. and has a pressure release valve that is nice so you can release the pressure without unscrewing from the cylinder head. This also has a gauge on it thatll tell you if the compression is acceptable or if it needs work. of course you should check with your engine specs to see exactly how much compression your engine should have but just as a quick reference just to give you an idea if the motor is even worth messing with, the red/green gauge on compression is great. i bought this for working on small engines such as for riding mower and it works great. The only thing that i don't like is that it didn't come with any type of case to put it in.
