This set of GearWrench S-Shaped Reversible Double Box ratcheting Wrenches is perfect for tight spaces where an angled wrench is the only way to get to the fastener. I also find the s-shape a good fit to my hand which allows me to apply torque/pressure without my hand slipping off the end of the wrench. The wrenches feature a 5 degree step in the ratcheting mechanism which is very helpful in tight confines. Both sides sport a rotation direction lever and engraving to indicate directionality. The company name and wrench size are also engraved into the tool and are easy to read. On most of the wrenches, each end is two sizes apart but on the largest wrench they are three sizes apart. In addition, the set skips sizes 18, 20 and 21mm. Wrench sizes are as follows: 10mm – 12mm 11mm – 13mm 14mm – 16mm 15mm – 17mm 19mm – 22mm From a functionality standpoint the wrenches are great. The movement on the ratcheting mechanism is smooth. The directionality levers flip easily (although some are so small it may be hard to get a gloved finger on them). The Surface Drive feature puts more contact on the fastener away from the corners to prevent rounding. Where the wrenches let me down is the quality of the grinding and the chrome application. In the recessed area of the directionality levers, there are visible grind marks that were not polished out and the chrome was not applied well in those spots either. In addition, the wrenches were dirty and scratched up. While I realize this is the kind of tool that will be scratched during normal use, for the price point I expected them to be clean, polished to a shine and exhibit no scratches from the manufacturing process. As a result I knocked my rating down one star.

This set of wrenches seems to be well made and well thought out. The "bend" in them allows you access where you would normally not be able to get to or at least not easily. These are not going to be the wrenches you reach for ever day, but when you need one you REALLY need one. The wrench has decent "handle" that is not hard on your fingers when you push or pull on them, but a little texture would be nice as they are quite slippery when your hands are greasy. The sweep on the wrench is quite good at 5 degrees between clicks and the ratchet move smoothly and easily. The direction change lever is a little hard to operate because it is quite flat, but that has good side in that it does not interfere much with getting the wrench on the nut or bolt. Also the direction change levers are on both sides of the wrenches, which is nice. The wrench sizes are 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 16mm, 17mm, 19mm, 22mm. I would have preferred doing away with the 22mm and having 18mm or even a possibly a 21mm, and then having an add on set with the larger sizes. I don't care for the recent trend of the tool companies picking which sizes they think you will need. I would prefer that the set covers all of the sizes in the range and then make add on sets that cover smaller and larger sizes. This is the reason I gave these wrenches a 4 star instead of a 5 star rating. The markings are engraved in the wrench and are easy to see and deep enough they wont wear off. These wrenches have a 12 point flank or surface drive which means that it drives more on the center of the nut or bolt rather than the corners, so there is less chance of rounding off the fastener, not as good as a 6 point but still good, and then they can also be used on 12 point fasteners. All in all a really nice tool set that you probably wont use all that often. I would also like Gearwrench to make the display case able to double as an actual case.

Got one of those jobs like I had with the alternator on my Torrent where they put it in the middle o the room and build the car around it? If so these are the wrenches that might get you out of that bind. Even my small air ratchet had a struggle. Someone put a lot of thought in these. First they are setup to allow the wrench to be placed either direction, meaning the bend can face either way and flipping the switch allows you to loosen or tighten the not/bolt. They even put the switch on both sides so you can flip it as needed. On top of that there is a 5 degree swing, after all they are going to be needed in those tight spaces. Because the open end, they are useful for long bolts where the deep socket won’t work. Finally they make it so the nut/bolt is gripping on the side of the surface, not the corners. I far I have not rounded any corners, truthfully I may not tried really hard yet. However it does seem like a great approach that should work. The only thing I can’t do with these that I often do with other wrenches is put a breaker bar on the end not a normal use fir sure. Overall great wrenches for those tougher nuts to crack in difficult places.

These wrenches are great. I have some straight ratcheting wrenches but they do not have the same leverage that these wrenches have with the twisted handle. I just had to replace an O2 sensor in my truck. Even with 24 hours of soaking the old sensor with penetrating oil, the O2 sensors are hard to reach and are still very hard to remove. I unplugged the old sensor and threaded this 22mm wrench onto the sensor. It came off with a whole lot less effort than the old style wrenches I have used in the past. The twisted wrench also fit very well into the tight spaces just to get to the O2 sensor. A specialty socket is available for the O2 sensors that has an offset hole for a socket wrench. The offset aspect is what gives it more torque, which is what these wrenches seem to have. Makes removing old rusted nuts a lot easier. I like the fact that the wrenches have a switch to change the direction of the ratchet so you do not have to remove the wrench and reverse it. They are very stout and the ratcheting has very little slack to it, which seems to indicate the higher quality of the wrenches. I will be looking to get a set of standard wrenches with this design now that I have the metric set.

Intended for those fasteners in hard-to-reach places, where the “S” Shaped body and 5 degree ratcheting heads will allow for installation and/or removal with a minimum of agony, this wrench set will be a useful addition to the tool chest. The chrome plated finish (though not everyone’s favorite) will make it easy to clean up after use and the plastic “tray” that they come in can be used in your tool cabinet drawer to keep them in order. It is fairly light weight, but, as a tool drawer organizer, should be adequate. The five (5) degree ratchet mechanism movement (in combination with the 12 point drive heads) will permit fastener removal/installation where space is at a premium, while the “S” shape of the wrenches will allow access around obstructions which would block a straight box end wrench. Reversing levers are provided on each side of the wrench “heads” to change the ratchet direction. They are easily “flicked” with one finger due to the shape and grooved surface. The “Surface Drive” configuration of the drive heads engages approximately 0.030 inch of the fastener flank, to minimize rounding of the corners. Wrenches include 10mm through 17 mm as well as 19mm and 22mm, which should cover most of the typical applications. The handle section of the wrenches has a somewhat squared cross-section which, although smooth and rounded, could be uncomfortable when applying heavy force with the larger sizes. Although the ratchet mechanisms did not appear to be serviceable, the wrenches come with a lifetime replacement guarantee, should the mechanism fail in use.

You may not need these wrenches often, but when you do, you will really be glad that you have them. These S-wrenches or curvy wrenches are a design that have been around for a long time. I’ve seen antiques of this design, but mostly open end and rarely box-end, but these go one better with ratcheting box end. Even better yet, you can switch ratchet direction from either side without flipping the wrench around. These are 12-point, so you can maneuver in a tight spot to fit the nut or bolt. The clicks on the ratchet are closely spaced, so you can get movement on your fastener with just a little wiggle room. Many modern machines like tractors and engines are much more compact than in the old days, and there isn’t much room to fit regular sockets or standard wrenches in tight places. That's when you need a wrench like this. I have two or three locations on my compact tractor that would be completely inaccessible if not for an S-wrench like this. The finish in these looks good and they feel good in the hand, they have a lifetime warranty (but I’m not really sure what that really means anymore). I wish they came in a case or pouch, but they don’t. They aren’t cheap (good tools never are), but they can save you hours of time and frustration, and that alone might be worth the price.

GearWrench and The Home Depot offer a 5 piece set of unique wrenches ! This set has 10 different sized metric ends from 10 to 22 millimeters ! The chrome finish will make clean-up easy. The S-shape helps you get into tiny spaces that straight one won't ! The ratcheting ends have a thumb lever on both sides to make it easy to reverse. The ratchet is fine tooth so they can work in movements of about 5 degrees ! A high quality tool set at a very fair price ! (see photos) Carry case will also hang on peg board for easy storage !!

GearWrench S-Shaped Reversible Double Box Ratcheting Wrench Set (5-Piece) is a top of the line metric specialty wrench set. The sizes range from 10-mm (25/64-inch) to 22-mm (55/64-inch), a good working range of sizes. The ten different S-shaped wrench sizes come in handy on occasion when regular straight ones just won't work and can also be used as a second wrench. This S-shape is invaluable when equipment blocks fasteners using a straight wrench. This seems to happen when working in tight engine compartments or under the chassis. They can be more helpful than sockets when up against an extended bolt thread that can block sockets seating. This open wrench design doesn't have that problem while being just as quick. Finally, GearWrench claims to have what they call SurfaceDrive box ends that eliminates rounding of fasteners. This I haven't tested, but would be an improvement over other wrenches. There are different wrench shapes around to get at blocked fasteners including: half moons, stubby, crowfeet and more. The S-shape is a particularly useful shape among all of them and these GearWench's have advantages. The advantage of the S-shape is they fit in tight spots, need little room to turn the fastener. This is because there is a short length before the bend, a 15-percent offset, to work around blocked fasteners. The ratchets come with 12-point contact and have a five degree turn radius or sweep movement to turn them. This is a very short distance before hearing any ratchet clicks. In addition, they've included a reversing lever that isn't normally found on these type wrenches, one on each side. Flip the lever to change wrench direction, no wrench body flipping needed to change direction and reposition it again on the nut. This makes them more convenient to use. The wrenches come in a good tray that can be used to stored in a tool-cabinet draw. Once you've got a good set of straight wrenches in the toolbox, other designs like these are handy and well worth it when needed. These are high quality hand tools, heavily chromed and come with GearWrench's lifetime warranty.

Very handy set. These Double Box S Wrenches (5 pieces) can get into places that a normal socket can’t. Great for those tight places or where there is an obstruction. The wrench needs only 5 degrees of sweep to work. The non ratcheting ones, you have to reposition the wrench every 1/8 of a turn which makes an already challenging job even worse. This set gives you the speed of ratcheting with the access of an open end wrench. You can turn nuts and bolts without removing the wrench from the fastener. The ratcheting head allow the wrench to move up and down along the length of the thread without removing it. Also great is the reversible lever on both ends of the wrench allowing you to reverse direction without removing it! It's a Metric set and the sizes are: 10 & 12 mm, 11 & 13 mm, 14 & 16 mm, 15 & 17mm, and 19 & 22mm. The wrenches come in a case that keeps them in place and can be hung in a workshop.
