Questions & Answers

Is this ok for zone 10?

Answer This Question

Hi Soto! This plant will do just fine in zone 10 by giving it full shade to part shade light conditions. It does like an abundance of water and would do best in a pond situation. It is considered a native to north Florida/Gulf coast area. The intense sun can burn the foliage, but given some relief in some shade this plant should do well in zone 10.

How long does it take to grow

    Answer This Question

Hi Judy! This hardy perennial bog plant can reach a height of up to 5 feet, but is normally about 3 feet tall. The width, or spread of this plant is 12 -16 inches. I would say this plant is a medium fast grower and should be at least a couple of feet tall in the first year. All of these rates and dimensions will vary by growing conditions such as light and temperatures. It will spread quite easily from the seeds it produces that will turn golden brown in the fall.

Can this plant be submerged in a pond?

    Answer This Question

Hi Vette! This plant is a bog/marginal plant that is definitely not intended to be submerged in a pond. Rather, it is intended for the shallow areas around the edges of your pond, or in a dedicated bog area. It should not be more than an inch, or so from the top of the pot to the pond's surface.

Hi Vette. This plant is primarily a bog plant and is not meant to be totally submerged in water. There are several other pond plants that can be totally submerged in water such as the Nymphaea Water Plant: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Bloomsz-Nymphaea-Water-Plant-Assortment-Root-3-Pack-04663/205881924 There may also be a number of Water Lilies that may be available at various times as well. Check the web site for availability. https://www.homedepot.com/b/Outdoors-Garden-Center-Garden-Plants-Flowers-Water-Pond-Plants/N-5yc1vZc8s1/Ntk-tagger/Ntt-pond%2Bplants?NCNI-5 Depending on your location, your selection may vary. The 3 plants arrived, pitiful, dry, dead. Who at Home Depot gave me the time of day to offer a return for my money? I strongly discourage anyone from buying plants online from Home Depot.

Home Depot pond plants always arrive in great condition! The inland sea oats were planted right in the edge of the pond and seem to be settling in well.

The plant was much smaller than I expected, although looking back at the description, it was as described. Just not the value I would’ve expected for the price especially from Home Depot. They should’ve been priced much less for what they were.
