A:  We plug the end of the straw with a nail . Then the next use I just cut the end of the straw off that's plugged with nail and it should spray out.

A:  Yes, it works affectively sealing the gaps. You still need to cap the exterior.

        by|Mar 22, 2023

A:  I personally would not use this particular product for that purpose. I believe Great stuff has a product for that application. Door and Window I think is the product.

A:  Hello Juansamajoce - For applications that involve windows or doors, we recommend using the Great Stuff™ Window and Door Insulating Foam Sealant. It expands with less force, reducing the possibility of bowing the window or door frame.

Q:Can you use this to seal air from coming under baseboards

              Answer This Question

A:  I would say you could. Just be careful to use less than you think because this material continues to grow. If you're not careful, you'll be doing a lot of extra clean up work.

              by|Dec 30, 2022

A:  Technically yes, should you no. Pry out the baseboards and find the real air leak.

                by|Dec 31, 2022

                  A:  Yes

                  by|Dec 30, 2022

A:  Hello Tommy - The Quick Stop Straw will make this difficult depending on the size of the gap. If the gap is 1/4-inch or larger, the Quick Stop Straw should work well. If it's smaller, I'd think about using caulk instead. The straw designs do not lend themselves to gaps smaller than 1/4.

                    by|Dec 27, 2022

A:  Depends how big the cracks are.  Works best if crack is bigger than an inch

A:  I put a small shot of Great Stuff at entry point, then embed a wad of steel wool into it, then a covering shot of Great Stuff over the steel wool. Mice, chipmunks, and rats won't chew thru metal.

                            Complete crap
I’m sure as a product it probably does fine, if you get it where you want it and not everywhere else!! Completely useless applicator (straw). It doesn’t tighten in the can so you get it all over your gloves, plus it drips and falls everywhere. Ruined my hoodie. It was a work hoodie, but not the point. They used to have good straw applicators but the ones now are complete crap. I’m pretty confident it’s so that you end up buying the Pro version. I wish there was an alternative

                              Good but not great
Always have been thrilled with this product in the past. Noticed that the 16 oz option has an improved application straw that can be closed and reopened. Fantastic I think. So I use half the can and carefully clean out the straw and the very top of the can where the product comes out. Fast forward to replacing the trim around my back door and I grab this can to prevent small bugs and creatures gaining access to my house. Go to use the can, product somehow resealed itself even though I had cleaned it completely. Honestly I was disappointed but not surprised. So plan ahead and use the whole can because you can't save it for later. Learn from my mistakes.

How to remove hardened spray foam
I found way to remove this from vinyl siding after it's cured and hard. Use Citristrip orange paint remover. Put it on thick and let it set 15 minutes. Then take a wire brush and Brilli pad to it. Takes some scrubbing, but.it does come off.

Nozzle impossible to control; buy the Pro gun instead
I'm not a contractor so I bought Great Stuff in this DIY container to seal up cracks in my garage walls before insulating. As others have said, the nozzle is extremely difficult to use; the foam either barely comes out or it splatters all over the place. I was glad I was wearing a tyvek suit. Plus, as I know from past use, if you stop partway through a project and don't use the whole can right away, the nozzle seals up and the can is useless from then on. So I bit the bullet and went back to Home Depot and got the contractor-grade Pro Gun, and containers of sealant and cleaner. What a world of difference!!! The flow from the gun is finely adjustable and easy to set up for exactly the amount you want. Plus, you can leave the gun on the can and use it again and again, for up to a month. Unless you're on a very tight budget or are much better at dealing with frustration than I am, skip a few lattes and put the money toward buying the Pro gun; the job will be much easier and much more enjoyable.

                                      Works well
The foam sealant works great and closing up the gaps from running copper pipes through the wall in my garage. I used this same brand but specifically for windows and door jambs recently and it is fairly easy to use. Can be a dirty job if you use too much foam. The foam continues to come out for about 2 seconds after you release the trigger. So it's best to release early before you want to end.

It won't stop, it keeps getting out!
I sealed a couple of cracks and holes in my basement and everything worked great until I decided to stop and keep it for the next project. It just never stopped, it's in my garage now and it keeps coming out, I see a big blob of gooey stuff already and I am a bit worried that It will fill up my whole garage and I won't be able to open the door in the morning.

Hi, Tim - Thank you for sharing your concerns with us regarding Great Stuffâ„¢ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered with this product. Once the foam has cured, it cannot be removed with solvents and the only option is mechanical removal. On hard, smooth, or polished surfaces this may be accomplished very carefully with a single-edged razor blade. If you can see the bottom of the can and it is still within shelf life, you can return it to the point of purchase for a refund or exchange. Great Stuffâ„¢ Insulating Foam Sealant products are not designed for reuse as one-component foam cans will seal themselves shut if left for two hours or more after the initial spray. We have developed a new dispenser called the Great Stuffâ„¢ Smart Dispenserâ„¢ that does allow for reuse up to 30 days after the can is first used.

You are using spray foam wrong
Take the straw off and you have a full blast substitute for a spray foam kit. 40 cans completely air sealed my attic and cost half of what the smallest froth pack costs.

Hi, Molly - Thank you for sharing your comments about Great Stuffâ„¢ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant. This product is an air sealant only and is not designed to provide any type of insulation, only block air movement from small gaps and cracks. The Froth-Pakâ„¢ Foam Insulation kit is formulated to provide insulation in your home. We do not recommend the use of Great Stuffâ„¢ Insulating Foam Sealant products in the application you have described here.

Nightmare to use - coaider Loctite
For context Im a diy’er with no prior experience with spray foam. We moved into an older house which had gaps and holes internal to the house that were letting in pests and mice. So I turned to spray foam as the solution for larger gaps where caulking wouldn’t work. I started by buying 3 cans of this stuff. Let me tell you, it’s a nightmare to work with. Why? 1. The product comes out so quickly it’s difficult to control. You end up spraying way too much then have to spend a lot of time cutting extra. 2. Because of #1 is gets all over the place. Your hands, floors, clothes...really anything around. 3. The screw on spray tube is defective. With all three cans, the product began leaking out of the underneath of that screw on spray tube. 4. Some cans barely worked at all. One I got one spray out of before it jammed up and I threw it away. Overall this product is terrible. I gave up on GreatStuff and went and got a few cans of Loctite Tite Foam. Solved every problem above. Easier to control the spray, easier to clean up, and no leaks out of any of the cans. From my experience, vastly superior product. Having said that, in fairness, i have no results yet on which is more durable. A few tips if you’re like me and want to use this stuff: * use caulking wherever possible before turning to this * It expands, a lot. You can always add more so use lightly. * Spray foam is flammable. VERY. If I had known this up front I would have gone a different route all together. * Make sure you have plenty of disposable gloves. * Keep lots of paper towel around and a few wet rags to clean up. You’ll definitely want to wipe up overspray. * Get some acetone if you’re going to want the finished product to look nice. I didn’t care about that for where I put it so I didn’t bother. Good luck.

Hi, OCDad - Thanks for sharing your concerns with us regarding Great Stuff™ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant products. We are sorry for any inconvenience you may have experienced. As recommended on the label, please use protection to avoid contact with skin and eyes, so please wear gloves and goggles. Uncured foam can be removed with acetone, but cured foam requires mechanical removal from surfaces. It is not harmful if you get it on your skin, but it will take time and effort to remove it. Also stated on the label, cured foam is combustible and may present a fire hazard if exposed to flame or temperatures above 240F (116°C). We have developed a new dispenser called the Great Stuff™ Smart Dispenser™ that allows for greater control and ease of use. As our retailers sell their existing inventory, they are restocking with the Smart Dispenser™ products which will be available wherever Great Stuff™ products are sold.
