Great for sealing windows. If you’re careful to cap the nozzle and make it air tight, the remaining canned foam can be used. The trigger and straw can be cleaned for more uses by using a stiff, narrow wire and compressed air. Note: The leftover doesn’t expand as much as a new can. Don’t forget to shake well. Seems to dispense better by tilting the can on its side or upside down. Also can be used without the trigger straw by simply pushing the nozzle to the side.

Traps large bubbles, trimmed area not paintable
I purchased the great stuff foam for door and window gaps to fill a vertical gap similar to what you might find in a door frame in a corner of our sun room that was letting drafts and bugs in. A window butted up to it so I did not want to potentially now the frame and cause trouble with it shutting. My intent was to fill the gap, trim excess foam off and paint it. When I trimmed the foam, there were areas in the gap that had large bubbles, some extending more than half an inch into the gap. I expected much smaller bubbles or foam cells with this product. The trimmed surface definitely is not paintable and I'll need to find a different paintable caulk to fill in the bubbles before I can paint. Perhaps if you were able to judge exactly how much the foam would expand and didn't need to trim off excess foam and didn't care about how excess foam outside the gap looked, that skinned surface is paintable

Hi, Brent - Thanks you for sharing your comments about Great Stuff™ Window & Door Insulating Foam Sealant. We apologize that our product didn't work as you expected. This product is designed to be used in framework and in rough openings around windows and doors that will likely be covered. In those cases, the cured foam is pliable and can be stuffed into the gaps of the frames before the trim is added. It isn't usually trimmed, but it is paintable and sandable. Depending on how close the window in your sunroom was to this area, the Great Stuff™ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant may have performed better.

    Poor stability after application
Foam applied well but did NOT maintain it's structure. Picture was taken after 24 hours.

I really like this new straw with the function of stopping the flow. It did allow me to use the can the next day to finish insulating a small area I had missed. Usually, I would have to use a new can on the next day. Much more environmentally friendly. Please keep out of reach of children between uses, this Stuff is no joke. Also, if using around windows and doors, don't over fill, keep the straw moving around the opening.

      Great Stuff Indeed!!
Great Stuff Indeed!! Fills gaps and cracks perfectly! A great alternative to conventional fiberglass insulation. It remains rigid but pliable and does not bow out the cavity. Definitely wear gloves as you do not want this on your skin. Highly recommended!

Great Stuff works exactly as described. 1 can was the perfect amount to fill the gaps around my 8 ft patio slider. Definitely wear disposable gloves and long sleeves, you don't want this to get on your skin. And gaps bigger than 1/2 inch might be better filled with fiberglass insulation.

Great Stuff window & door type is a "great" product. Easy to use, excess trims off easy and very easy to paint. Home Depot has the larger cans with the red Quick Stop Straw, that is great for keeping any unused foam ready to use again.

Hi JetPro, thanks for the great review! The Quick Stop Straw is designed to prevent drips when moving from one application point to another. It is not intended to be used as a storage tool. Like all one component foams, GREAT STUFF™ is a one-time use product. GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant will seal itself shut if left sitting after use. Inserting a pipe cleaner sprayed with oil lubricant or a nail coated in petroleum jelly into the applicator straw may prolong the life of the product up to 30 days, however, it's better to plan ahead, identify and list all possible applications before using the can. You will need to cut off the yellow tip of the Quick Stop Straw to place the pipe cleaner or nail into the straw.

        Great Stuff!
Sealed a new door with this! It will expand a little bit and dry to a foam. Wear rubber gloves or something to protect your hands.

Hi Rence, thanks for the great review! At a minimum always wear long sleeves, safety glasses or goggles and gloves when applying GREAT STUFF™. Please see the following guidelines for removing GREAT STUFF™ from skin: If the foam has not cured or hardened, use acetone or fingernail polish remover (with acetone) to remove the foam being careful not to spread it. Cleaning very soon after exposure is important and a polyglycol-based skin cleanser or corn oil may be more effective than soap and water. If the foam has hardened, there is no solvent that will remove it. To remove cured foam from skin, carefully use a pumice stone (available at most drugstores) and warm, soapy water. Be careful not to file through the material as the GREAT STUFF™ has bonded with the first layer or so of skin. Apply petroleum jelly or high quality hand lotion to the affected area to accelerate the natural sloughing and exfoliation of the skin. GREAT STUFF™ Insulating Foam Sealant is not harmful, is nontoxic, and it will wear off in time.
