Questions & Answers

How do you clean the Pro 14 gun

Using foam is a messy process and once dried is a mess in itself. How do you keep the gun from getting plugged up and if it does do you have to throw it away? Thanks
Asked by: scbaman
Pretty much is the case once the foam cures your gun is toast. Another $50 and you are back in business ; or file a suit against the chemist that never got around to developing a solvent that would dissolve the foam and eliminate the costly replacement of clogged guns. Try somewhere in the Caribbean as rich chemical engineers frequently travel to sample the female talent that is bonita.

Can you remove a can and reattach later on?

I have read reviews that state you have to use up the can you have attached to the gun. If you remove and try to use again later it will not work. I am looking to get this for some of my team to use but I do not want to buy a gun for each can they may have to use completely.
Asked by: 4line
Not really. It is designed so you can leave the can attached and ready for use up to thirty days from last use to help prevent wasting foam like the disposable ones. For long term storage without use for longer than 30 days, you need to removed the foaming can and clean the gun with the cleaning can/solution, which is really only pressurized acetone.

Where do i find more tips for the Pro 14 foam gun

Asked by: Erik17
Not sure what tips you're looking for as it's pretty self explanatory. Unfortunately, currently there isn't much out there as far as techniques for use. As far as laying a nice bead of foam, keep nozzle at an angle if possible and draw the gun with consistent speed to match the amount your dispensing.

I never review anything but when I bit the bullet and spent $50 bucks on this after years of using the single cans I had to let everyone know it is worth every penny. We all know the cans once you start you have to use it all and not to mention you get this stuff everywhere and I mean everywhere. Well this gun makes this stuff last forever and no mess at all, you can lay a bead down that rivals caulk guns. I bought 4 cans but after nearly 4 weeks of sealing up the whole attic I just now finishing off one can and i don't have it all over the place and not on me. 1. Screw can on 2. Open valve and use 4. Once you let off trigger flow STOPS! GREAT! 5. Close valve when you're done 6. As long as can has foam left just store it 7. Right out of storage it works with again with same can attached NO HASSLE Simply said I will never buy a single can again EVER! I know I was reluctant to spend $50 BUT I'm glad I did

I am a 20 year construction contractor who uses a lot of spray foam insulation. When the Home Depot manager talked me into trying this new product line, my crew all liked it at first. Then the gun started malfunctioning...even with the frequent cleaning. Then we found that the stores are no longer carrying this product line. You have to order it on line. Too much hassle for a small construction company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will never install spray foam without it I was insulating a cathedral ceiling with rigid foam and needed to foam the gaps. The cost difference between this gun and its "pro" can and the regular cans seemed like a no-brainer - 2 hours, 3 regular cans, and a mess of epic proportions later i bought the gun and wish i had from the get go. It cuts off as soon as you let go of the trigger which allows you to put the foam exactly where you want it. It holds the can upside down even when foaming overhead which keeps the foam flowing. Lastly, it controlled the mess. If you have a lot of foam to install its worth the investment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tool but don't remove half used cans! I apparently didn't read the instructions and dutifully pulled off the cans (partially used) as needed and cleaned frequently... Basically I got build up in the gun and have disassembled and cleaned it once, but now I have permanent blockage as the needle (teflon coated) has accumulated gunk. Basically air is the enemy of this gun, so if you use the cleaner and then blow it out the foam will dry on the needle and you'll have it only for a short while before having to replace it. If I had read these reviews or the instructions more carefully maybe I would have had a better experience. My mistake, hopefully someone reads this and follows the guidelines better. Also it's nearly impossible to seal upside down as the cans have to be in the downward position, for most applications you're sealing stuff below you, but if it's a tight fit the giant cans can't be tilted much or they lose all their gas and you're left with a slow ooze. I had great availability at my home depot in Northern NJ for the large and small expansion cans as well as the cleaner which I used way too much because of my mistake.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for what it is... I used this to foam around my new windows and it generally worked well. I did have a can of foam that didn't want to come out with any force and that was very frustrating for how much they cost. The control and accuracy is SO much better than the can with plastic tube! ** BEWARE THAT YOU CAN'T TAKE A PARTIALLY USED CAN OFF ** I guess I didn't pay attention to that part of the instructions, only the fact that you can LEAVE a partially used can ON the gun and re-use LATER (within 30 days). I needed to foam a larger area and started a can of orange foam and then took it off only to have it slowly fizz foam out the top of the can and get ruined (it did produce quite an object of art though, but I digress). I plan to foam the top of my wall headers in the attic and use a combo of 2" foam panel/GreatStuff for the basement rim joists. I may then sell the gun online and if I even get 25% back I'll be happy with the whole purchase. Don't just buy this for casual use, it's pretty expensive for the foam refill cans, those should either contain more material or be less expensive. Also, where is the high expanding foam choice?? I did end up with a lot less waste then usual, and I got very little on myself or my hands. That almost makes it worth the cost alone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product - SKIP the frequent cleaning with recommended usage Bought one about two years ago (before my local HD stocked them) and have run about 10 cans of foam of various brands/types through it. HAVEN'T CLEANED IT ONCE! I'm a home owner doing frequent energy efficiency upgrades and this gun fits my need perfectly. Using it is so much better than dealing with the disposable cans with plastic nozzles. The flow is controllable and there's no need to use a full can up. I just leave a can on mine and exchange with a new can when it runs out. The directions that came with mine suggested that if you did this you would not need to clean the gun frequently. I've found this to be true. I've found I only need to clean the tip externally and the gun works after sitting on the shelf for months with a can attached. The thing is big and unwieldy and the cans seem more expensive per unit volume than the one-use cans but I waste far less foam so I think things roughly even out as far as foam costs.
