Do I need to pre-drill the cabinet faces (oak wood) when using these screws or is it safe to simply push these screw right through when joining up two cabinets? Thanks

Personally, since we're talking about cabinet faces, I'd go ahead and pre-drill. Especially since you're drilling into hard wood.

Can these be used to install baseboards onto aluminum studs?

These are designed for wood and vinyl but I think they would work for your purpose if you drilled a pilot hole into the aluminum a bit larger in diameter than the body shaft of the screw. Experiment with pilot hole size in the aluminum stud before proceeding. You want to have hole size just right so you leave enough aluminum for the threads to purchase but not so much that the torque needed to sink the screw might break the screw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased different sizes for my 16' long ramp and handrail project. These are costly screws b... I purchased different sizes for my 16' long ramp and handrail project. These are costly screws but are the best I have ever used. The tapered tip makes it easy to "steer" them in at just the right angle when you are first starting them in. I like the star bit head design. Even though it comes with a bit, do yourself a favor and buy a 2 pack of the longer star drives. You will need them if you are working in even a few close spaces. I did pre-drill most of my holes although it wasn't really necessary. They bury themselves pretty well and will only split the wood if you are at fastening a very small piece of wood. I used my Ryobi 18 volt impact to make this job easier. If you don't have one, buy one.

I never thought I would be writing a review for screws, yet these are worth sharing a few minutes of my time. We hung an 8' x 10' wall of shiplap pine in a room and had intended to use glue, along with finish nails into the studs. I ultimately decided to use these to speed up the job, and wasn't too concerned about the appearance of the head since the screw goes into the rabbit. These drive like a dream-- I did not need to predrill holes, and with the exception of a few high points where I couldn't lean into my driver, I didn't even have to pre-tap these screws. I did get a few splits but that was more due to screwing too close to the edge of the rabbit. The driver that comes with this works fine, but there is only one-- get a second if two people are going to drive screws at the same time. You'll also want a chuck extender for tight spaces. For comparison, I also bought some countersunk 2 1/2" Spax screws to fasten a cabinet-- they literally did not do a thing that the box claimed. They all needed a countersunk predrill, and at leas a quarter of them stripped.

I thought I found the perfect screw.The box says p.t approved, and was looking to what material there made out of ( doesn't say ) & where they were mnfg.(Taiwan ) should have been a red flag right there.I used them to screw down my 12' X 16' pool deck boards , & was quite happy until 2 weeks later walking on my deck , the boards were squeeking, & the heads sticking up out of the boards. I thought it was just because the boards were drying up & shrinking (which they were ).So I tried to sink the screws deeper in the deck, but they just spun.I thought I might have stripped them ,so I backed the screws out & noticed they were broken- ALMOST EVERYONE !! .The cheap material used to make these screws failed when the boards shrunk. Now have to replace every screw.DON'T USE THESE SCREWS FOR DECKING !!

These screws are the perfect answer to our problem of using hickory wood trim on our hickory cabinets. Pin Gun pins just bent around the wood grain. The trim wood proved too hard for pin or nail guns, and despite being from a top cabinet company, tended to bend and twist. The great holding power of these screws allowed us to flex the wood to be straight, and it has not twisted or bent once mounted. Using these screws (with some careful pilot hole drilling to make sure they didn't break out where not wanted) gave us rock-solid anchoring of the trim pieces. Be sure to use pilot drills that give clearance for the shaft of the screw, but are tight enough to give plenty of purchase for the screw threads. Counter-sinking the small heads of the screws to at least flush with the bottom of the trim is a good idea. Supplying a T-10 drive bit is a great feature, but it is best to pack an additional one in case the enclosed bit starts to wear down. I found that it is good to buy from Home Depot, as some online sellers want a fortune for just a couple screws. 100 pieces should more than cover an entire kitchen

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome !!! By far some the best screws I've ever used !!! I used a box of 100 to redo some wooden patio chair seats that my wife picked up at a garage sale. I was skeptical about them splitting the 1"x2" boards but to my surprise they didnt. I didnt even predrill the holes !!! Ill be buying more to redo my porch swing next.

I especially like these if there's a chance down the road I might want to remove the trim for any reason. In vinyl (otherwise known as PVC), I drill a small pilot hole which helps the trim head sink itself flush, and I stop the cordless drill when the head is flush with the work surface. Nice that they include a Torx driver bit. Much better than a Philips head screw, bit doesn't walk out and damage nearby surfaces.
