Can I use these on 3/4 solid oak floor? I am replacing the floor in a closet roughly 15 square feet. The subfloor is 70 year old 7/8" tongue and groove planks. Thanks,
Asked by: Andrew
You can however the heads will be visible and subject to the same wear and tear that the floor gets and if you fill in the holes with wood filler it will take a lot of effort to remove the floor again

#8 x 2 in. Star Drive Trim-Head Finish/Trim Screw (100 per Pack) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, Easy, seem to hold well...great product !! Used these to put car siding on a sunroom exterior... Could not afford to rent a pneumatic nailer over and over, as I was doing this a few hours at a time whenever I could spare some time. Tried hand nailing, and screws of all types, some of which were not recommended for this job , just to see if something out there was actually affordable and time-efficient. These are the cream of the crop - nothing even close. Unfortunately, I was half finished before I found these ...:(( I do a lot of projects around my house and for my family, so Home Depot's price and selection will make them my first stop for GRK fasteners !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great screws I install a lot of kitchens, and I used to use drywall screws to fasten the cabinet faces together. But very often, even after proper pre-drilling & countersinking, the heads would snap, keep spinning, or screw just wouldn't get sucked in all the way. After using these on another project, I had a "light bulb" moment, and decided that I would try these for cabinet faces. Best decision I've made in a long time. They're super strong, no snapping, no spinning. Also no need to even countersink, these guys pull themselves right into your pre-drilled hole. Then you're left with an extremely solid hold, and a tiny head that's easy to hide behind hinges. I highly recommend these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth Every Penny I just needed to install some standard 4" tall baseboards. I'm no professional woodworker, so I picked these up hoping they would work. My original plan to was to whack away with some finishing nails & a hammer. Knowing me that would likely end-up looking terrible so I was pretty happy to find these screws. One word: AMAZING. No pre-drilling. No excitement. These screws countersink with ease without splitting or breaking anything. Super happy! The only con I can is (maybe) one day, if the baseboards need removal, it won't be terribly easy without the star-shaped bit that came included with the package.

These are costly screws but are the best I have ever used. The tapered tip makes it easy to "steer" them in at just the right angle when you are first starting them in. I like the star bit head design. Even though it comes with a bit, do yourself a favor and buy a 2 pack of the longer star drives. You will need them if you are working in even a few close spaces. I did pre-drill most of my holes although it wasn't really necessary. They bury themselves pretty well and will only split the wood if you are at fastening a very small piece of wood. I used my Ryobi 18 volt impact to make this job easier. If you don't have one, buy one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from these screws are a joy to use I used about 1000 of these completely replacing the decking boards of a front porch. The goal was to find a galvanized screw small enough to drive right into the tongue of the tongue and groove pine boards, these completely fit the bill. I was initially concerned they might split the delicate tongue, but the screws cause almost no splitting at all. The screws also start incredibly easily. The entire porch was finished in about 3 hours thanks mostly to how easy these screws are to use. They aren't the cheapest route that I could have gone, but could not be happier with my choice, I am confident that all the boards will stay in place since I used galvanized screws and it could not have gone more smoothly. These screws are so gentle that I used them to fasten some trim pieces (and filled with wood putty) in high traffic areas because they hold more tightly. Could not recommend these screws more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome !!! By far some the best screws I've ever used !!! I used a box of 100 to redo some wooden patio chair seats that my wife picked up at a garage sale. I was skeptical about them splitting the 1"x2" boards but to my surprise they didnt. I didnt even predrill the holes !!! Ill be buying more to redo my porch swing next.

I never thought I would be writing a review for screws, yet these are worth sharing a few minutes of my time. We hung an 8' x 10' wall of shiplap pine in a room and had intended to use glue, along with finish nails into the studs. I ultimately decided to use these to speed up the job, and wasn't too concerned about the appearance of the head since the screw goes into the rabbit. These drive like a dream-- I did not need to predrill holes, and with the exception of a few high points where I couldn't lean into my driver, I didn't even have to pre-tap these screws. I did get a few splits but that was more due to screwing too close to the edge of the rabbit. The driver that comes with this works fine, but there is only one-- get a second if two people are going to drive screws at the same time. You'll also want a chuck extender for tight spaces. For comparison, I also bought some countersunk 2 1/2" Spax screws to fasten a cabinet-- they literally did not do a thing that the box claimed. They all needed a countersunk predrill, and at leas a quarter of them stripped.

I especially like these if there's a chance down the road I might want to remove the trim for any reason. In vinyl (otherwise known as PVC), I drill a small pilot hole which helps the trim head sink itself flush, and I stop the cordless drill when the head is flush with the work surface. Nice that they include a Torx driver bit. Much better than a Philips head screw, bit doesn't walk out and damage nearby surfaces.
