How is this installed?
NO
no
Yes. That's how I use mine. It's just a fancy shower head and will fit any existing system.
mine is about one inch higher.
We just installed this (Feb 2020). The horizontal arm that holds the rain showerhead slots into a "hex" slot on the vertical bar. So you cannot freely rotate the horizontal arm, but you can adjust it in 45 degree increments. Also, the showerhead itself is on a ball pivot so it can tilt a bit to the left and right.
We installed it in our standalone shower. Two caveats. (1) If you have a shower that is set into a corner and has the shower door on the opposite corner ... that is, the shower is not a complete square ... be sure to measure where the showerhead will land relative to your door. In our shower, the pipe coming out of the wall is not centered, so the top arm that holds the rain shower head was going to land a little too close to the shower door. (2) The top horizontal arm that holds the rain showerhead is NOT completely adjustable. The arm slots into a "hex" slot on the vertical rod. It either points straight ahead or at a 45 degree angle. You canNOT just rotate that horizontal arm to whatever angle you want. The showerhead itself is on a ball, so it can tilt to the left and right a bit.
no the button is just a switch to and from shower head to hand held
The overhead portion of the arm is 13-3/8". It sticks out about 20" from the wall. I do not know if a longer piece is available. I would call Grohe customer service at 1-800-444-7643.
The showerhead itself is on a pivot so you can tilt the head a little bit to the left or right. We have one of those corner shower stalls where one corner is cut off on a slant and that's where the door is. So we need to tilt our showerhead a little to one side so that the water doesn't spray out over the top of our shower door. The horizontal arm looks like it should freely swing side to side, but it does not. It has to be locked into one position, and you have limited options for that position. The horizontal arm slots into a "hex" slot on the vertical pole, so when you first install the horizontal arm, you can angle the horizontal arm about 45 degrees left or right, or aim it straight ahead as shown in the pics, but that's it.
