Did a good job on #12 2 pt. Bob Wire
This Tension device is light duty; yet it did work well with #12 Gauge bob wire. Any bigger gauge will not thread through the holes in the device. For the price, I feel a heavier duty device is justified. The picture in the description seems to look bigger than it actually is. The tightening tool is overkill. .I was able to tighten my fence quite well simply using a 6 inch long.5/8" open end wrench. I bought my first batch of Ratchets at Home Depot and my second batch online at about $1 less per item, along with free Prime shipping. However, I noticed that many online items are even lighter duty! Make sure to look for 3 holes on the pigtail end of the ratchet before you buy. :)

So far, seems to be just what I wanted: a more robust tensioner for our plastic-coated steel wire clothes line, which is almost 60ft long. Probably wouldn't work for ordinary rope clothes line as that would be too thick for the hole in the tensioner spool.

E.S. Robbins galvanized ratchet style tensioners are a lot easier to use than the way we used to mend wire fences. Back in the day we would mend our broken wire fences by taking a length of new wire and tie it to the broken wire on one side, then make a loop on the other broken wire then take the end of the new wire and put it through the loop. Put the tag end in the claw of the hammer and turn the handle like your cranking a model T tightening the head of the hammer against the loop and wrapping the wire around it. When it's tight enough back off of the crank a half turn then wrap the wire that is around the hammer head around the loop. It's helpful to have a screw driver to put through the loop to help hold it still, a stick also works. Every cowboy knows how to do this, at least they should! If they missed school that day then E.S. Robbins galvanized ratchet style tensioners are here to help you fix your broken wire fence.

Using it on a clothesline, so not the most strenuous of application, though it's held up great so far. I've used other clothesline tensioners that all failed. This one works great.
