As others have said, the hardest part about applying this is getting the lid off. But once you figure out how to get the first one off, its just a bit of brute force struggle for the rest. For me, I pulled the plastic tab off around the edge of the lid. Then the edges of the lid need to be lifted, or more specifically pryed away from a lip on the container to break the tight seal and allow it to open. Theres about 10 individual edges on the lid, and if you get 4-5 bent out, you can generally pull the rest of the lid off by hand. Lifting the first lid releases what sounds like a vacuum, the inside is air tight. I used a metal crowbar to pry the rest at various angles, and hands. Gloves are a must. Once open, this stuff pours out very easily like a bit of black asphalt sludge. You're supposed to let them sit upside down for 10 minutes, if you read the instructions. While it isn't absolutely necessary probably, 1 of my 7 containers had a fair bit stuck to the bottom, and it may be because I rushed it. The rest pour out easy. It doesn't crumble, more like oozes. Use a shovel to mold it to your pot hole. Be sure to absolutely clear out all the debris from your pothole first, and sweep it if there is loose dirt too. Spread it well, fill the edges, get a mostly flat surface even if rough. And use a little extra, rather than not enough. I didn't have an official timper tool, but I did have a sturdy metal shovel. I used the back to pound the material flat with some good force, solid swings. You'll notice it flatten out fairly well by doing this. I tried the board method with the car too, it wasn't really worth the effort, as I found I often missed the long board and it pushed the edge into the asphalt. I got rid of the board and just drove over it a bunch of times. Gives me confidence that it doesn't come up and doesn't leave tire impressions. Nor does it leave tracks on the untreated pavement nearby. The tires do get a little sticky it seems, but they do on professionally paved roads at first too, so that seems normal. Really happy with the result. Turned a crumbling hole filled with lose rock into a flat and smooth driveway. Overall application from start to finish took about 90 minutes for 6 containers, including the time to open them all and cleanup. I have 1 to spare.

    Great Product
I used this on the transition between the asphalt road and my concrete driveway. There was an 8' x 2' x 4" deep depression in the road way. I used 5 pales. I swept the existing asphalt with a push broom It poured out easily and I used a rake to distribute it. I tamped it down with a 8 x 8 tamper for about 15 minutes and then drove back and forth over it many times with my truck. I then drove off to do some errands, I didn't want to track it onto my driveway. It was tacky for about 48 hours but then could drive over it without tracking it onto my driveway. Weather was about 95 degrees. It's holding up perfect a month later. Even the outer edges which are very thin have bonded very well. This project couldn't have gone any better,

    Great product
The product was very easy to use. Turn the bucket over for ten minutes then fill the hole.. You definitely need more than you think. I repaired a 12" X 13" and about 1-2" deep hole as well as a few not as big holes in my driveway. It took about a bucket and a half. My neighbor tamped it down and we are good to go. Waiting to see how it holds up but so far so good.

    Patching made EZ
I purchased this product to patch a missing edge of my driveway. The area to patch was approximately 8 feet by 18 inches by 2 inches deep. I estimated that it would require about 2 pails so I bought 3 pails just in case. Boy am I glad I bought that extra pail. I just made it. 1st the good stuff- the product almost poured itself out of the pail. I compacted the asphalt with a 3 lb. mallet and a short piece of a 2x4 and it looks great. The not-so-good stuff - Most reviews said that you could put this down and roll right over it almost immediately. In my case the product was "sticky" when I laid it down and it took all of 2 weeks for the product to fully cure. So be careful not to track this stuff into your car or your home. Although it looks pretty good as-is, next spring I'll be sealing it with a trowel patch product to give it a nice smooth finish, followed by an asphalt sealer.

It took a little while for this to be shipped to my store. I placed it in the pothole and placed a piece of plywood over it and ran over it with my truck (didn’t want to buy a stamper that I would use once and store). It hardened over the next couple of days and continued to pack down as I drove over it. Worked out well and would highly recommend!

I would recommend for slight depressions and large cracks. When I tried to patch something larger than that it doesn't set. One month later and the patch is still not set - I used a tapper and ran over with car. The gravel still shifts. After a few weeks I added sand but the cars picked up tar from the patch. I would use again and maybe fill shallow, tap and wait to dry and then add more- repeat. note you will need to wait several months until you could add sealant. I tried and it made cracks.

    Response from GardnerGibsonSep 13, 2018
This patch is a stone and asphalt mix for holes and potholes. The hole needs to be defined and cut out. If you fill a shallow depression, there are no sides for the patch to set against, and the patch will not be able to set properly. You do need to wait a summer season for the oils of the patch to fully evaporate prior to sealcoating. All these guidelines are clearly stated on the label instructions. Thanks. GardnerGibson

Easy to use right out of the bucket - just trowel it into place, and tamp it down; it's not rocket science. And, the special lid appears to provide for a tight seal to allow for storage of the leftover supply. It worked for me, reasonable cost, and I'd buy it again.
