AnswersHello, thank you for your interest in one of our products, to answer your question, all Geeni devices are designed to work for 2.4 GHz connections. Since most routers nowadays are dual-band, you can ask your Internet Service provider to separate them (a combination of 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz) for them to have a different SSID. Once it has been separated, you will have two WiFi names. One for the 2.4 GHz and then one for the 5.0 GHz. From there, you'll have a choice to connect your Geeni device to the 2.4 GHz band. You don't have to worry because even if the two bands have been separated, the connection will not be affected. We will forward your request to our developers and hopefully, it will be added in the future update. I own several Geeni smart items and they each have been working reliably for about a year now. There is only the rare downtime when the app or firmware is updating, otherwise the devices stay connected and working 99% of the time.
I would recommend these smaller spot plugs for any area where it is not practical to use a Geeni power strip. These small plugs would be ideal to use above a kitchen or bathroom counter or in the middle of a hallway where a powerstrip would be out of place. These plugs are inconspicuous for the most part.
Set up was simple and only took a couple minutes. You can also control the outlets with voice commands with Alexa or Google. There is no need to purchase any additional hubs though. You just install the app on your phone.
You cannot fit two of these plugs in the same outlet. The second outlet will fit a plug to a surge protector, but nothing bigger. So keep that in mind when you are planning out where you will plug these in.

Getting started was pretty easy, although the app wouldn't recognize the plug initially. I had to use the "back up" AP method as described in the included instructions. Once added to the Geeni app, I enabled the Geeni skill in the Alexa app and used "discover devices" to find the plug and add it to my Alexa smarthome list. It responds to on/off commands just like any other Alexa controlled device. My only gripe is that its kind of bulky so that it can make it impossible to plug in "wall warts" or even certain 3-pronged cords into the regular outlet below it. I have another brand of round smart plug that doesn't give me this problem.

Although I am not a millennial,I can still work an app and have fun with smart home devices and this geeni plug set is another winner in my smart home collection. The last 2 years I have been slowly adding smart home items,like wifi cameras,smart plugs etc and am using Alexa devices. The genie plugs work flawlessly with it and you can control via a separate app or integrate with Alexa and use voice control or the app! You just connect it to your wifi,download an app and you are good to go.It is really cool that things I saw in movies as a kid are now a reality. I have the plugs in a bedroom and in the kitchen and can turn on/off as needed from home or even away which is good for security if you are away or need to turn on a light for the pets etc. Use the plugs for anything you need to control even holiday items or music players. It’s great for convenience and security and allows you to control things your way.

Easy to pair and a great addition to our SMART HOME. We have been gradually adding to our SMART HOME with various accessories. These GEENI spot smart WiFi plugs work perfectly with our Alexa app from my IPhone 6S Plus. I am able to use my smart phone to turn the lights on and off from anywhere in my house or even from outside the house.
The Geeni APP downloaded quickly and worked perfectly with the Alexa app. Many links are provided in the printed guide provided with the 2 plugs to assist with pairing. These plugs will work with Microsoft Cortana, Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The directions are super easy to follow and work the first time.
I was easily able to change the device name to my Sunroom and it will even allow for using these plugs in groups. I am using for light control, but these plugs will work with any device in your home to turn on and off as needed remotely. I LOVE these plugs.

These Wi-fi smart plugs are really easy to use. You just download the Geeni app for your phone, plug them in, and carry-out a one-time setup operation where you enter your Wi-fi password on your phone and it gets saved to the plug. After that, the plug can connect to that Wi-fi network on its own, even after being unplugged for any length of time.
Each device you register in the app can be given a unique name - I used a label maker to name each of them with something simple (e.g. "Geeni Spot #1") so I can easily know which plug I am turning on.
The app lets you control the plugs manually (turn them on or off), or you can set up timers or schedules to have them come on or off. They are compatible with Alexa and Google Home, though I haven't tried that out yet. My plan is to use them to control holiday lights or lamps, and I think they'll work great for that. They are indoor use only.
One minor complaint - there is a "network check" feature in the app that lets you test whether the plug is getting a good Wi-fi connection. It seems to always complain that my network is having problems and needs to be optimized, even when it's only 15' from my router, and my phone is getting a solid 10 Mbps network connection from the same location. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to affect the operation of the plug at all - they still turn on and off very quick and seem to "boot up" fast after plugging them in, about 15 seconds.
In terms of form factor, the round plugs look nice, and don't block the other outlet entirely - you can definitely still plug in a normal two-pronged device and maybe a three-pronged one if it's not a "wall wart" style plug. However, you can't plug in two Geeni Spot plugs to the same outlet - they won't fit.
My biggest problem with these particular devices, though, which is why I don't recommend them, is the high-pitched hissing / squealing sound they make when you plug them in. It's not super loud, but definitely noticeable and not something I'd want to hear in a bedroom or living room, or anywhere else for that matter. The sound changres slightly when the plug is toggled from "on" to "off" but there is definitely a sound in both modes. Not sure if this is just a quality control problem or what - both of the units I have make this sound. I have a different Geeni Smart plug that's in a rectangular shape, and it doesn't make any noise other than the "click" the occurs when you turn it on or offf. I really hate electronics that make noises when they're not supposed to, so I recommend buying these somewhere you can easily return them if noise is a problem.
