What exactly are the smart functions that this surge protector provides? I like the surge protection and the USB of this Geeni although what I need to know is: If my security camera plugged into this Geeni shows to be "Off-Line" when I'm viewing it remotely and I know that there is internet and electricity to the Surge Protector, does this Geeni allow me to turn off my security camera (plugged into the Geeni) and then turn it back on so that I may recycle the camera remotely? Any suggestions you may have would be helpful. Thanks!

Only option in the pamphlet is an app. Note, I could not get it to connect using app on IPod Touch and a tablet running Lollipop was incompatible with the app in the store.

Will the unit stick to scheduled on and off if internet connection is disrupted. For instance if cable is out for hours.

Asked by: Mike
We just recently installed the surge protector and got the app downloaded to the smart phones. We have not had any power disruption to date to test the scheduled memory functions but according to the manufacturer the app would keep the settings on your phone and when power is resumed the info would allow the surge protector to perform its previous programed functions.

PlayStation controllers would not charge on them. I tried multiple controllers and multiple USB cables. It would not charge at all. The ports were activated and other items would charge on them, just not the PlayStation controllers. Second of all, I believe that the USB ports are all only 1 amp chargers. This means that you will not be able to utilize newer cell phone's ability to "charge rapidly." It will take twice as long to charge your cell phone on these ports. You would need 2.1 amp ports to charge your phone at its maximum rate. Some cheap USB cords just wouldn't work with this device. The cheap USB cords worked with other devices just fine, so I am not sure why this surge protector is so picky about what works with it. I only gave the product half star rating because the USBs were virtually useless, but the regular smart outlets actually worked really well. I had no trouble setting up the device on my network. I had no trouble setting it up with voice command with Amazon's Alexa. That worked perfectly. It also works with the Google Assistant on my Pixel phone. What I did like was the ability to control each outlet individually. I was pleasantly surprised that this was a feature. The power outlets and the smart features did work nicely, but unfortunately the USB ports need work.

All Geeni products are great and seem to have more range than some of the competitors. I use this in my office to turn off the monitors and eco spot when I leave the office or at night. The money saved on electricity should pay for this over time.

My regular surge protector was already full with work related devices, and I needed additional outlets and USB ports for personal items. This fits both bills perfectly. Plenty of available outlet space, and with the dedicated USB area, outlets aren't wasted with bulky USB transformers. It has the ability to control specific outlets via smartphone, however I will not be using that at work. I can see the benefit when used to control lighting at home though. I'm using it to charge my phone at work, to charge an external bluetooth speaker, and to power a desktop calculator. It handles everything easily. It gives good power through the USB's to charge my phone very quickly as well, at 1,200mA.

Having the 4 USB ports is great seeing as I'm always charging my phone, PS4 controllers, wireless speakers, etc. It's convenient to be able to charge these up while still having the ability to use the outlets to plug things in. After many failed attempts, I haven't been able to get the WiFi working through the app so I can't speak to this feature. That's unfortunate since that's a huge part of the functionality of this surge protector. It seems pretty straightforward to set it up, however. Like other power strips, there is a notch on the back that allows you to mount it to a wall or shelf. It does not come with any screws.

It has four AC outlets and 4 USB outlets. The USB outlets have a total rating of 4.8 amps, although they don't say what the maximum rating for a single outlet is. It charges my tablet and other devices without a problem, so it must be enough. You can always plug a 2 amp USB supply in one of the outlets if you need to. I wanted this strip to make a USB charging station for all my gadgets. Left lying around in random places, they are always dead when I want them, so I cleared some shelf space, found 4 good USB cables ( there are so many junk ones out there ) and set up a specific place to keep everything plugged in and charged. The four AC outlets that can be used to extend this even further. This works great. For a use like this I would highly recommend this unit, it makes for a very neat installation. Now on to the not so good points. The power cord is short, just 3 feet. Come on, how about an extra foot or two? I had to find a 3-prong extension cord for it. There is a button on the top that blinks annoyingly bright blue, but that can be fixed with a piece of tape. It took me a few minutes of fiddling to get the outlets to come on. The AC outlets are close together and can block each other. Finally, the advanced 'internet' features. The Android app would not install on my tablet, but it installed on my phone. That is the first app I have run across that refused to install on this tablet, which is a few years old. On the phone, it immediately wanted my phone number to 'register'. I said no to that, and deleted the app. I doubt in my situation that the internet features would work anyway. What this device needs is Bluetooth support, so that it can be set up without any internet. Then, having a built-in timer and other things might prove to be useful. If I need a timer or a remote control switch, I have several of those that I can plug it in to without having to do a lot of network hacking. So, as a dumb power strip, it is great, but for me the advanced features ( whatever they are, I never really saw them ) are not usable. The price is very high if you are only going to use it this way, so my recommendation is lukewarm. With Bluetooth and a longer cord, I would give it 5 stars.
