Answer This Question
A: Hello Nicole, thank you for your inquiry in one of our products. We highly recommend you to use a normal light bulb instead of your smart bulb to be controlled by the smart switch. It's because your light bulb's brightness can already be controlled on your Geeni app and that can be the reason why you can't dim it using the switch. Basically, they have different controls and it is more practical that you use a normal bulb since using a smart one can forfeit the purpose of your smart switch. A: Thank you for your interest in one of our products, To answer your question, Yes. Just make sure that the electrical boxes you plan to install the switches in have a neutral wire, Live Wire and Load wire. There should have enough room in the box to accommodate the switch, which needs substantially more room than the “plain” three way switch being replaced. We highly suggest to consult with your licensed electrician if you are unfamiliar with electrical installations. A: Yes, both switches in the kit need to be used to replace your existing switches. Note that these switches are bulky and require 5 wire-nutted connections which takes up additional space. You also need to make sure that the neutral has been brought to each box.

We've been looking to install one of these smart Wi-Fi switches for a while, as we have several home assistants in our apartment. Installation was fairly easy, especially if you've replaced a switch before, as it is a fairly standard installation. The most important page of the instructions is the line page - photo included, which shows the line connections. The switches work well, and the app is easy to use, though I wish it had some more features, but that is minor.
The cons are that they come with "screwless" wallplates and the thickness of the mounting . I live in an older building, where the walls are not perfectly flat around the switch, so I needed to replace the short screws and the wall plate with something that could fit. Not a huge deal that couldn't be solved for a few bucks at the local hardware store, where I bought new screws and wallplates. It's not a perfect solution, as the switch doesn't protrude as much as it should, but it works for now.

I ordered the Geeni Tap 3-Way Smart Wi-Fi Light Switch Kit so that I could “schedule” and remotely control my front hall lights to give the appearance that we’re home when perhaps we’re not. The kit comes with two switch units, two face plates, adequate instructions and all the hardware needed to effect the change-out from old to new. Each switch assembly with face plate is white (as opposed to ivory or almond) with a decided contemporary look when compared to a regular switch and wall plate. I like Amazon’s Alexa but the Geeni can be used with Google Assistant and Microsoft Cortana WiFi. According to the brochure no hub in needed and it’s controlled by voice, app or traditionally, touch.
Unfortunately I can’t offer any hands on comments because the metal j-boxes in my hundred year old plaster on lathe craftsman home are too small to accommodate these switches and my existing 12 gauge wiring. I think a standard 2 1/2” depth box should work just fine though. I will try to update this review next year after we move into our new home where I now plan to use them. My only concern stems from comments a neighbor who also has this switch set made - she says you can’t tell from the app whether the fixture is on or off (only that you changed the setting). Not a deal breaker for me because I plan to use it’s pre set scheduling capabilities

Unlike some 3-way wi-fi switches, these must be used in a pair and they require full neutral wiring in the switch boxes and not just at the load (lights). And since they are larger than regular toggle switches, it’s more cramped in the electrical box with these switches. They might have considered side screws to save space. Just make sure you have the right test device if you plan a DIY installation. I had to put these in our second home in an application that makes less sense than some such as in stairways and halls. Should have checked for separate neutral in switch boxes before I ordered these. Lesson learned. Once you are sure you have the line and load black wires identified, the installation is easy. These are usually the wires that are on a screw terminal that is only on one side of an existing switch. The other two wires are the “travelers”, which are typically red and black. If you are not sure about how to wire these then leave it up to a pro. Once wired, the setup to connect the switches to your router is straightforward if you have decent signal strength. The instructions with the words reset versus restart may be a bit confusing to some. Bot manual tapping and wifi operation work well.
I love wi-fi and voice controlled light switches. Limitations have been they primarily replace one-way switches, or you needed to add a “remote” control to provide two points of control. The Geeni TAP Smart 3-Way Switch Kit allows you to replace two traditional three-way switches with smart controlled switches. The kit contains two switches, two wall plates, and wire nuts and screws needed for installation to replace a set of existing switches. To replace existing switches, turn off the power and follow the diagrams. You do need to provide a white wire connection to power the switch. Switches need rectangular decorative style wall plates, so if installing in a box with more than one switch you will need to account for that when replacing the wall plate. Switch have depth, so the box needs to be at least 2 inches deep. You can manually operate the switches, including a dimming control, or use a smart phone or voice assistant device to operate. For smart home applications, first download the Gennie app – no hub is required. Set up a Geeni account and follow directions to add a device. Next set up the smart skill in Alexa or Google or Cortina to establish voice control, it is easy to do by following in app instructions. You need to link to a 2.4 GHz Wi-fi network – and all devices must be on the same network. Once set up, you can then set on/off schedules, set up lighting scenes including dimming levels, and link or group other smart devices. You can also share control with identified users. This kit is great for a hallway or kitchen where three ways switches are commonly found. Capacity is 800 watts incandescent, 400 watts LED or CFL. Note: a clarification in the documentation and on the box – as it states a system requirement is a “single pole” switch. This kit is designed to replace two double pole switches – “three way” switches.
There are a couple things it would be helpful to know before ordering this “kit.” These switches will not work in many situations. First, both conventional switches in your 3-way circuit need to be replaced with these smart switches for the circuit to work. Second, the switches are much larger than standard 3-way switches and will not fit into all electrical boxes, especially older metal boxes with truncated corners. Third, the switches each have five pigtail leads instead of screw or clamp-style terminals. This requires five wire-nuts (provided) to make the connections. So, in addition to the large switch body, the pigtail wires, and the wire nuts take up a significant amount of space. The package says the box should be a minimum of 2-inches deep, but the switch body is 1-1/4-inch deep X 1-5/8-inch wide X 2-3/4-inches tall, which leaves little room for the pig tails, house wiring and wirenuts. Fourth, the switches require a neutral which often is not brought to the switch boxes in a 3-way circuit. Fifth, the device is for indoor use only.
There is also some conflicting and confusing information provided. The packaging says that they can be used control a fan, but the large yellow label on the switch says they are not for motor operated appliances. Geenie Customer Service informed me that the box is correct. The label also says that they are not for use with fluorescent fixtures, but the printing on the switch itself says that are rated for 800 watts of incandescent light and 400 watts of LED and CFL. One application that appears useful to know—in case they do not work in your 3-way application--is that the individual switches can be used alone in one-way switched circuits according to the questions and comments on the HD product website. Although the manufacturer makes a switch specifically for one-way applications, these will work as well according to the maker. Presumably, you would wire nut the blue/SW2 pig tail. However, after over a week of back-and-forth emails with Customer Service was not able to confirm this or whether both switches can be used in separate circuits at the same time.
I have another Geenie device—an outside Wi-Fi plug—so I already had the app down-loaded and running. It is easy to add these switches to the app and synch with Alexa. The switches only work on 2.4G Wi-Fi.
The switches come with the newer screw-less Decora style, single-gang cover plates that are oversized. The product is made in China.

I already have the Geeni App loaded on my smart phone, it's a simple procedure to link the new Geeni Tap 3-Way Smart Wi Fi 3 way light switch kit to the App. This 3 way smart switch comes in a 2 pack and you also need a neutral wire in the switch box to power the smart switch. When you apply power to the wall switch the wi-fi light begins to flash and then on the App have it search for new devices, it then handshakes with the switch and connects. The Geeni Tap 3 way smart Wi Fi light switch kit is only compatible with 2.4 GHz Wi Fi network and no hub is required, it connects to your router. As I did not have a 3 way switch location to install this kit I will use each switch on a separate circuit. These switches do not have a dimming function. You can set up timers by days and times to have it turn on and off automatically. The switch has two indicator lights, when connected to WiFi the indicator is on and the on /off indicator which shows the switch condition. The Geeni Tap 3 way smart light switch comes with a one year warranty.

These seem like very good quality, smart WI-FI switches. There are two things I didn't pay attention to when ordering these. I assumed because there were two, that I could use them on two different light fixtures but you need to use them on the same fixture by replacing both 3-way switches on the same fixture. The second issue is that you need to have a neutral wire in your switch boxes in order for these to function. I assumed that I did, but that's not the case so I'm not able to use them which is disappointing. If I were able to use them I'm sure I would love them.

The quality is good. It works with wifi, app. The good part of changing switch is that you can use manual switch and also the app to turn on/off the light.
I was also able to connect it using google home app. Not planning to use use the voice feature with home or alexa.
Challenges/things to keep in mind:
1. If you are changing switch, which has dimmer, then this geeni switch is not for you. You lose the dimming ability. Cant do it with app also. Dimming is gone for me.
2. Connecting wires. The blue/brown combination is not available in existing structure. All the videos, wire maps for 3-way use black/red/white or black/white combo. So, if you are not really handy or give time to understand the mechanics, may want to have an electrician do it.
3. Take the picture of junction box you disconnect the old 3-way switch. It would help in placing the wires correctly.
Pics attached for reference. Hope it helps the follow shoppers.

Pretty much every light in my house has been switched out to a geeni device. I have quite a few three way switches and these were super easy to install and replace and replace a standard three way switch. I like the pigtails coming out of the device to wire up the switch. It makes it super simple and all the wire nuts are included.
While the pack comes with two switches and could both be installed on the same light, I chose to put them on two different circuits to be able to control more lights and save a bit of money.
The setup on the geeni app only takes a few seconds and the Alexa integration is super simple. I love getting into bed and telling Alexa to turn off the lights and the whole house goes dark. No concern about leaving a light on or having to crawl out of bed to check it all the lights are off.
Overall simple to install and use. Highly recommended.
