Product Overview

GenTap introduces a simple tool to solve the long suffered problem of unrolling rolled wire fencing. Using rolled fencing is a challenge because it does not straighten out as you remove it and tends to roll back on the user, often nicking their hands and arms and risking damage to the eyes. The application of the fence looks wavy and uneven since the bend is still in the wire. The GenTap Fence Straighter solves that problem quickly and easily. The Fence Straightener flattens and straightens chicken wire and hardware wire used for animal pens, chicken coops and general fencing by rolling the wound fencing through 3 wood rollers on a metal bracket that take the bend out of the wire by bending it back to its original straight condition.
  • Works great on stucco wire, chicken wire and hardware fencing rolls
  • Contains: 2 galvanized stakes, 2 galvanized brackets, pre-drilled dowels, and 6 screws for assembly
  • Easy assembly with all necessary items included
  • Flattens fence wire with ease and reduces risk of injury
  • Creates a more professional looking project
  • Offered in 36 in. and 48 in. models

Will this work with a 100 foot roll of 1/4 inch x 48 inch hardware cloth (23 gauge)?

Hello, thank you for your question. We only recommend the standard gauge hardware cloth. We haven't currently tested with a 23 gauge, but we do know that anything larger can cause issues.

Hello, yes the dowels turn while chicken wire or hardware cloth is pulled through and the diameter is 1 inch.

Hi Tom! This item is not a roll of any type of fence, it is only a tool used to straighten chicken wire and some fencing. Thanks!

Would this work on 14 gauge, 1 in. x 1 in. opening, 48" tall welded wire?

Hello, thanks for your question. In this case unfortunately the wood rollers would deflect, as that is fairly strong wire.

Will this tool straighten plastic coated crab trap wire mesh 1 1/2”x 1 1/2”

Answer

Hello! We think this should work, but have not tested with that material and do not know the gauge of it. If the gauge of the wire is 16 or under, it is very likely to work with this. Thank you!

How long is the roll

Not very long, almost as long as the other one. Hope this is as confusing as your question

I couldn't test this out on the ground - we have a lot of snow right now but was able to, with a helper, manually run it trough it's paces. Since flat wire is bent when spooled on a roll, it can get back to that flat memory by using physics. In the roll straightener, the wire is maneuvered or pulled through a course around wooden dowels. The wire is bent past its elastic point and then redirected to a straightened state. More or less, that's the theory. It wasn't easy to perform this function manually but it can work because the two end rollers are the forward direction guides and the middle roller is actually doing the unbending. You can test this out by pushing down on the fencing over the middle roller and feel it grab and move forward to a straighter surface. This is a very unique item and doing some research, GenTap is the only manufacturer of this simple kind of device. Of course if you have lots of pasture fencing, this wouldn't be practical. But it would be easy to do say a small yard or enclosure fence. Keep the box if you are not going to use this alot. It is easy to assemble and disassemble. Instructions are clear.

The instructions for the four foot fence straightener were clear and easy to follow. I own some acreage in the country where I have some farm animals. I do not currently have any chickens but I plan to get some eventually. I wanted to have secure fencing for them before getting them so this product was perfect for my needs. It is high quality and lightweight. It made installing the fencing a lot easier and it is sturdy too. Now all I need are my chickens!

Fence straitened.
You could make this for less than $5.00. I don’t know why anyone would pay $44.for such a cheap concoction.

The rollers are not stiff enough to equally straighten both sides of the fabric. The screws in the ends of the rollers come unscrewed during use.Not for any long term use. Use on small job and then discard.Good idea, mediocre execution.

It does a good job. The poles are not very rigid. And you really need 2 people to do it well. My husband did a couple rolls by himself but it would get hung up and it was better when I could guide it thru while he pulled

So I have some chickens and was planning on expanding on the run in their coup. I have had a prior problem getting the chicken wire to look nice and straight especially towards the end of the roll. This solves your problems. There were no instructions, but it is pretty straight forward to use and I figured it out with no problem. Definitely makes the job easier.

Made fencing the chicken coop and goat pen much easier and faster! I don't know if you've ever worked with chicken wire or not, but if you have, you know it is a pain. The fencing constantly rolls back up, gets stuck together, creases and folds (undesirably) easily, and it is often difficult to get a smooth, flat application with chicken wire. This gadget may not look like much, but it made working with chicken wire (and goat wire for that matter) easily 10 times easier to work with. It prevented the chicken wire from doing all of the aggravating things I just mentioned, while also preventing it from rolling back up, making the job get done much faster with a lot less headache. We even used it to install goat wire around our goat enc's light weight and easy to carry around the farm, from project to project. It is very affordable and well made. Great invention, wish I would have thought of it!
