Someone, please measure 1 “Button Plug” & note what that dimension represents on the part!!!!!
The diameter of the part that gets inserted is 1/2".
You can't measure it? Just take a cloth tape measure and measure the circumference of the part of the plug that fits in the hole. Easy!

WHAT KIND OF WOOD ARE THESE MADE FROM.
My local HD has these button plugs in both Oak (labeled as Oak and obviously oak from the darker wood and prominent visible grain) and a non Oak (labeled as Hard Wood but more like Pine in appearance with no visible grain).

Do you carry button head Oak plugs in 1/2"
I just bought a package of 50 button head Oak plugs at my local HD store. The package is actually labeled as Oak and looks very much like Oak (darker with grain). They also had similar button head plugs in packages labeled as Hard Wood that looked more like Pine.

can these be cut flush with a flush saw? These were installed on a railing and I'm not sure I like the look.
There is a similar product from HD that will fit flat and flush inside of a half inch hole so you wouldn't need to cut off these half round decorative plugs...
