Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reasonable Meter if you want Bluetooth This model TS04 Multimeter is one of a series of bluetooth-enabled devices from General Tools, and while software developers put a lot of effort into the app, the utility of Bluetooth on a multimeter is questionable. The meter itself has some good and not-so-good features. It has both automatic and manual range capability, accessed through a single “Func” button that does different things depending on the mode selected. I'm sure there are times users might want to select a manual range, but for the most part the auto-ranging worked fine for me. The Auto-OFF feature turns the meter off after 15 minutes of inactivity, but can be disabled if desired. The included K-type thermocouple/temperature probe works well, and the 3-ft cable makes it easy to put the probe where you want it but the non-standard plug is non-standard and cumbersome. I wish there were a place on the meter to store the probe too. The meter includes a Battery-Test function for 1.5v and 9v batteries, but the readings were nearly identical to those taken with the DC Voltage setting so it's not clear if the batteries are tested under any sort of load condition. If not, those functions are fairly useless. The built-in, flip-out stand is convenient, but access to the 9-volt battery compartment requires a small Phillips screwdriver. The unit is a good size and weight, and the included CAT III probes fit nicely into slots on the back for storage. The probes are only about 30” long, so you can't get too far away from the meter while making measurements. The major issue with the meter from my perspective is the display: it is dimmer/lower contrast than usual and since it has no backlight, can be very difficult to read. The display is also recessed into a beveled frame, which looks nice but creates dark shadows on the edges of the display where several icons are located, making them impossible to read. I found the unit's “beep” sound also fairly quiet – it won't be audible in a noisy test environment. The unit includes a non-contact voltage detector as well, designed to sense high-voltage AC (e.g. 110v) but I found it erratic and overly sensitive, often detecting voltage behind walls where there were no wires and “beeping” when held near the USB cable charging my phone. On the plus side it never failed to detect high voltage when it was present, and false-positive reading are safer than false-negative ones. The bi-lingual instruction manual was extremely complete and well-written. As for the Bluetooth function, it worked well and the app was fun to use. I was able to download it onto older iOS and Android phones with no problem and it worked similarly on both. It actually made reading the display much easier, and the icons – though different than on the meter – were all easy to see. Super-imposing readings and notes on a picture taken by the phone was easy and could be useful in some cases I suppose, but not often given how I normally use a multi-meter. Same for the data-logging feature, which can store multiple measurements (as opposed to the “Hold” function on the meter which only stores the last measurement). Others may find the app more practical. Overall I found the meter acceptable (though difficult to read) but the added price for the Bluetooth feature isn't worth it for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from not sure "smart" feature really useful... We got this multimeter to replace an old broken one. We found this one to be fairly easy to use, with a clear dial to identify what you want to measure. For home use, skeptical of how useful the mobile view would be...you are holding the multimeter to do the measurement---why would you need to look at your mobile device to see the result? Useful only if you have a second person helping you to record the result.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Garden variety, entry level meter, low quality test probes. Bluetooth features don't work. Emails for support came back as "address not found". I really wanted to like this tool. It's in a sturdy case with a protective rubber boot and a flip-down stand that holds it at a good reading angle on the workbench. It's a nice size for general purpose tool box and purports to have many features handy for home repairs and maintenance chores. Unfortunately it has some flaws that prevent me from recommending it. The banana jacks on the test probes are of low quality and do not securely remain attached to the meter. You can easily knock them out of their ports and they don't maintain good continuity with the meter. Buying new probes or at least new banana plugs for the supplied probes will be required by anyone who wants to seriously use this meter. Substituting my own probes, I found the voltage, resistance, and current readings accurately matched known resistors, voltage supplies and current sources. Connected to a Resistor/Capacitor test circuit, the voltage readings rose and declined as math predicts. The temperature probe is of better quality and appears to be accurate. The continuity and Non Contact Voltage alarm is pathetically feeble. I couldn't hear it over the sound of a reasonably quiet "milkhouse" heater running at low speed in my shop. Yes, I verified that the battery was good. I could not find any way to adjust the volume of the alarm. The meter is auto ranging. A range override function allows you select several orders of magnitude if you have the need. I wasted a couple of hours trying to use the bluetooth data logging function with my phone and with my Ipad. I could not get either device to pair with the meter. I carefully followed the instruction manual. I then went to the manufacturer's website and tried the instructions there. I also let both of my kids have a crack at it. I sent an email to the manufacturer concerning the probes, the feeble alarm and the failure of the bluetooth. The email was returned as undeliverable. I double checked the address. I called the manufacturer's toll free number and ended up on hold. I decided I had wasted enough time, and I think you can buy a better meter for less than the cost of this one. So that's my recommendation.
