Does this work for a Genie Opener that has been in use since 1977ish? Genie support turned me onto this, but the specs say 1997 and up. Just wondering if anyone has tried it on older models?
Asked by: Sledge4cp
This conversion kit works through the button on the wall of the garage. It wires to that and requires power from a 120 volt outlet for operation. If you have a button on the wall that can be used to open the door, this conversion kit will work. Instructions are clear and the transformer adapter for conversion of the wall power is included as is a substantial amount of wire. The control wires connect from the conversion box to the push button switch. After the conversion box is powered on and properly wired, the included remote may be programmed to operate it from a significant distance. Some other remotes that may no longer work directly with the garage door opener may be programmed to operate with the conversion box.

Is this hard to install

Asked by: Lindz
No! I installed it on 1970 Geni; the numbers didn't line up with the instructions. Their support is great!

Can I program 2 openers to this and have them, work on separate buttons?

Asked by: Dtokeo
Yes, you can program up to 3 openers on the transmitter that comes with this set (the hand held remote). And you can program several remotes to work with the receiver (the base unit). For example - we use this base unit to control the gate to our property. Between my son and myself we each have a remote in our separate cars to press to open the gate. I have the first (top) button programmed to communicate with this unit. I have also programmed my same remote to work with my garage door opener. There are some compatibility issues with some types of garage door openers, but it works with most. Here is an excerpt from the instructions to program the remote - • Locate the "Learn Code" button and LED indicator on the black box • use a pointed object and Press and release the "Learn Code" button. The LED indicator will start blinking. Press and release the button on the remote you want to program; then the LED on the black box glow steadily. Press the same remote button again and the LED indicator will go out. • To check that the button has been programmed correctly, press the button on the remote again; the door should operate. If it does not, carefully repeat the steps above. And remember to clear all people, pets, ladders, vehicles and other obstructions from the garage door’s path before activating. • Repeat the steps above for multiple doors and/or remotes with multiple buttons.

Asked by: Luckyman
We have a "Pro 82" about the same age and it works fine with it, so if the "Pro 82" and the "Pro 8200" have the same components it should work just fine. FYI: The "Pro 82" is an one third horse power opener. I'm guessing that you may have a larger motor.

Universal Dual Frequency Remote Conversion/Upgrade Extension Kit is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 111.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Garage Door Radio Receiver Upgrade The wireless remotes stopped opening the garage door, yet the door bell button with direct wiring worked okay.. I had the option of installing a new garage door opener for $138 or buying a new radio circuit board for $90. Instead, I found this relatively low cost radio receiver that was compatible with the original wireless remotes. It also included an additional wireless remote for your car's sun visor. Installation: Relatively simple: Power up the unit with the AC adapter (included) and run the output wires to the same screws that connect to the door bell button. You should have some familiarity with wiring. Then you push a red button on the unit to put it into programming mode, and then press the send button on your wireless remote so they sync. Done. Harder: Your ceiling socket needs to have a second position open for the AC adapter. The adapter is heavy and needs to be secured to the light socket with the long screw they include. I used a tie -wrap for extra measure.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from FORGETS CODES EVERY TIME POWER GOES OUT I have a very old Overhead Door opener that I needed to control with new openers, and I purchased this unit to facilitate that. It worked perfectly for the purpose. It accepts codes from a wide variety of remotes, and has great range. I was very pleased with my purchase....so much so that I threw out the box it came in. Then the power went out for an hour. When it came back on, none of the remotes worked. Upon checking, it appeared that the unit had forgotten all of the programming I did. I called Genie tech support to report the problem expecting to get an RMA for a replacement unit. Instead, I was told that the unit's memory is not non-volatile, and will forget everything upon loss of power! I would return this thing in a second, but I discarded the box, and besides, Home Depot is not responsible for the pitiful design. Unless you want to dedicate a UPS system to run this thing, stay away

Instructions were a bit confusing so I had to call Genie support since my garage door opener is a model 200, and connectors looked different than on paper instructions. Basically since I already had a push button installed on the wall all I had to do was route the connectors from the receiver to the same wire connections. Then just wired the receiver and power supply as per the instructions.
