Can I get it with a fine, non-serrated edge?

Customer Reviews

3 in. Stainless Steel Partially Serrated Drop Point Folding Knife is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Gerber/Fiskar Knife I have been looking for a knife to use for my yard chores. It should not be big yet big enough to handle tough jobs as cutting fertilizer bags, light pruning, light material cutting etc that is used around the house. This knife fills the bill so to speak but has some limitations as shown in the pros and cons section. Two items stand out as deficiencies. Lack of instructions as to how to safely close the knife. This knife uses a finger operated spring that has to be compressed. The swivel action was smooth to close the knife. The second and most important is that compared to my 40+ year old Swiss Army knife, the Gerber/Fiskar blade, though sharp was not as sharp as the SAK blade. It is however beefier than the SAK. However, the construction is solid and will probably last a very long time. I am disappointed that Gerber/Fiskars had manufactured this knife in China.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A good EDC option, but not Gerber's best work First off, let me say that this is a well made knife. The blade comes sharp enough for most uses without any additional need for refinement. The belt clip reaches all the way to the end of the handle so it can hang discretely inside the waistband or securely on a belt. The hinge is overbuilt and offers good grip for doing fine tasks. The handle is easy to clean of lint or other debris and has a very clean appearance. The locking mechanism is strong and simple and looks like it could last as long as the blade. The only real downside to this knife is the handle. Seriously, I don't know how this made it past the prototype stage. With the blade out and locked, you grab the handle firmly to make a cut through some cordage, and you almost wince at how sharp the lower edge of the handle feels. It's not actually hazardous, but very uncomfortable. Now, serrated blades excel at cutting things like straps, rope, cords, and fibrous materials, but you have to cut them under significant tension. When using this knife the tension required to cut paracord make you wish you were wearing gloves due to the poor contours of the handle. This knife was so close to being excellent, but the basic shape of the handle really can't be overlooked.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Ripstop II is a nice every day carry knife. The Ripstop II is a nice every day carry knife. The frame lock is solid and the knife is easy to operate one handed once you've broken it in. It's very easy to clean with running water when you manage to foul it. I've had my knife for over 18 months now and the handle has started to show some wear on the finish but the blade still looks nice. Out of the box it is decently sharp but the factory edge isn't as straight as it could be. The knife will feel "stiff" when you first get it. Regular use will soon wear the washers down and make opening easier. It will handle you daily needs readily but is inexpensive enough that you're not worried about using it hard when necessary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work of Art We can start by saying this is a Gerber knife, the review could end there; for me Gerber has some of the best, most durable blades in the market. This knife is well designed, comfortable in your hands, opens easily with one finger and locks into place solidly. The blade is thick and very sharp, can almost work double duty as a utility knife (Gerber has one of those also). The overall weight is light due to the skeleton frame, but sturdy and solid. This knife is perfect for attaching to your belt and use for whatever comes accross your way that needs cutting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice pocket knife This knife is durable, well-made, and light. For one-handed opening there is a knob for your thumb (on both sides of the blade), but also an open slot through the back of the blade that can also be used. The blade slides open with just the right amount of friction and locks into place well with a slight click. The lock release is the type at the bottom of the blade, in the handle, where you just push it aside to allow the blade to close. The belt clip is on one side and cannot be switched. The blade came well sharpened and appears to be very sturdy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality for the price I have owned other Gerber folding knifes before that cost double the price of the Ripstop 2 I was very impressed with the quality and the weight the belt clip is very sturdy The High carbon stainless steel blade with the serrated edge and handle appear to be a very expensive folding knife, The Thumb slot opening and thumb studs are excellent for right and left hand users, I read some other reviews on it not being sharp I have to disagree this blade is very sharp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Typical Gerber High Quality The first thing I look for is sharp edges or snags other than the blade. There are none. For its size and weight this is one mean knife. The clip is easily removed with a Torx screwdriver so this could easily be a pocket knife. The blade tension is just perfect to allow popping open with one hand, right or left using the thumb studs. Blade is very sharp from the factory and the serrations are very sharp and effective.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks Good! The Gerber open design 3.5" pocket knife not only functions well, but is also a cool looking tool. It is well made and as most Gerber cutlery, comes with a sharp blade and integrated serrated functional edge. The opening action is quick and positive, but found the thumb lock tang is flush with the sheath handle and awkward to close the blade with just a one handed motion. Overall, a nicely created modern pocket tool!
