Is the final result smooth to the touch or does it have a textured finish?
Asked by: Dani
Hello, Dani! The final result is smooth, but it will not be like a 'glass smooth' finish. To get an idea of the finish, we do offer hand painted swatches if you contact us at info@gianigranite.com or at 800-650-5699.

If you use if over ceramic tiles will it fill in the grout lines and be smooth or will you have a bumpy/uneven look where the grout lines are?
Asked by: RLB
Although we did ours over a smooth Formica type countertop, I would think that it would be hard to get a smooth surface over tile with grout lines. The undercoat is paint, and may fill in, but it might take several coats to get any smoothness. I wouldd suggest trying a sample space first, before you invest in the kit. It is a reat ptoduct, and we were very happy with the results.

If I was doing a bathroom with built-in shell sinks, can I paint them or do I have to tape them off? Also, I was wondering if the kit was easy to use. I'm thinking about going to Home Depot in the morning and buying it.
Asked by: KRW
I asked about the top coat (considering buying the epoxy option for a harder finish) and this is the answer I got about these molded sinks from Giani themselves: "Hello! Giani's Epoxy Topcoat Kit will work great on your bathroom countertop, but should not be used in the sink bowl/basin. We recommend you tape off the sink bowl area and use Giani on the surrounding area, and use a product such as XIM's Tile Doc on the sink bowl. Thank you and if you have any questions please let us know!"

Sicilian Sand Countertop Paint Kit is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 338.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inexpensive upgrade Cheap way to make it look like you're not cheap. :) I'm not handy by any means, and I was a little afraid of doing this, but it looks great! It really was easy; it's pretty difficult to mess this up if you follow the instructions. I had paint leftover after we finished the kitchen and bathroom. I even had to do it while watching 2 small children and I was still able to get it done in a reletively short amount of time. In the picture, sicilian sand is a light brown color. But really, you can make it as light or dark as you want. I liked darker, so when you sponge on the other colors, just let more black show through. Two reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars: 1) You cannot use bleach or acidic cleaners (like vinegar) on this. So.. no more comet/ajax on the sinks and no to most cleaners. 2) It's not heat resistant, so if you're doing your bathroom counters, be prepared to buy cotten placemats or something to place curling irons and straighteners on.

Makes your icky old laminate countertops look brand new! I bought the Sicilian Sand kit but ended up making my own color with showing more of the background black in there. It is not Bombay Black, nor is it Sicilian Sand. I did not like having all that white in there! Had enough top coat to go over counters 4 times. Highly recommend this product! You willl not be disappointed!

It did take 3 days for me to finish my counters, but I feel it was worth it. If you have large sections of counters (like a bar area), I recommend purchasing an additional clear/top coat from the manufacturer. Use the extra top coat with a large wall roller on the bigger surfaces to avoid roller marks. Also, it suggests you wait 14 days to put appliances back on your counters, so be prepared to modify your daily kitchen use for a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO user friendly, works just as described! We recently moved into a house with a hideous and dated kitchen counter top. It will be several years until we can afford a proper remodel, but it was just too much of an eyesore to leave be as it was! So I did some research, and found this Giani kit. I only saw good things about it. I was hesitant at first cause we have a tiled kitchen counter. But I figured anything would be better than how it was! So I got the kit, and the instructions were very easy to follow, especially with the video. After only 5 days of intermittent painting and drying (though it could totally be done in a weekend) we had a MUCH better kitchen counter! It was like watching Bob Ross paint... it looked like nothing and you think no WAY is this gonna work... then you step back and BAM! Looks just like granite!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff works! Cant believe I did it myself! Yes, it actually works. I had ugly formica countertops with burn marks. Watched the video online a few times and ordered the Sicilian Sand. Got a little creative and added some Martha Stewart bronze glaze as my first sponge on color before the 3 in the kit. If you want large 'veins', make them with a little artist brush during the sponge process(I just sponged them over a little so they looked recessed) make tiny veins after the color dries. You don't have to vein in white if you don't want to. I veined in the bronze. Only problem was during the primer, the roller included kept getting stuck mid roll. Bought a new one at Home Depot for the top coat. When they say add top coat liberally..they do mean 'LIBERALLY'! You might want to buy more just to have enough because you don't want to leave streaks. I have one, then I got the hang of it. I wanted to have 3 coats of gloss but it only yields 2 when applied correctly. Overall it was the best thing I could have done and saved myself a couple of grand in the process. Very easy, fun and you'll be glad you did. So proud of my new counters. Check out my pics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST PURCHASE EVER!!! Great step by step instructions, along with accompanying instructional DVD, make this product simple to apply even for those who don't consider themselves a do-it-yourselfer. The finish can be lighter or darker depending on your preference just by adding more or less of the sponged on paint colors over the base coat. I used this product to cover up rose colored laminate countertops in my laundry room. The previous owners had installed them, and I had hated them since the day I moved in, but couldn't afford to replace them. Then I saw this product advertised online, and knew this was the solution. I was more than pleased with the difference they made to the room....a complete makeover, just with paint. Everyone who has seen my "new" countertops comments how much it looks like granite; they are as amazed as I am with how simple it was. Can't wait to do another project using this process.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love How It Looks! I am not artist and have never "sponged" anything in my life. I do home repairs because of my budget and there was no way for me to be able to afford new counter tops. I had green laminate and it was completely horrible. I had repainted my kitchen and the melamine cabinets to shades of blue and cream. Came across this alternative for counter tops and love the look. It is not granite by any means and if you look closely you can tell. I am still in the 2 week "baby them" time frame, but they look amazing. Hopefully they will stand up to the test of time. I even got my 13 yr old to help from start to finish. I was told that the odor from this product was horrible; and that just isn't true. About the same as painting the walls. The one thing I would suggest is remove your sink; don't just go around it. For a first timer like me it seemed daunting, but it isn't that hard and is well worth the extra time and inconvenience. You'll be glad you did. Have fun!

The videos were very informative and I referred back to them several times, as I did the project in stages. Kitchen was kind of a mess for awhile, but that was OK. Started with my island because I figured it would be easiest without the back splashes. No issues at all...it was fun to apply and looks great. I had gray formica before and now have lovely Sicilian Sand color. I added a little extra topcoat around the sink area because of reviews that is where it might break down in time. So far, so good!
