Is the final result smooth to the touch or does it have a textured finish?
Asked by: Dani
Sorry for the delay in my answer. This is "SMOOTH" as glass. I love this product. I am getting ready to do another kitchen. If you follow the directions and make sure it dries completey (I waited longer in between coats) you will not be disappointed. And, I don't abuse it either by setting hot things directly on top of it, I don't use scouring powder, etc.

If you use if over ceramic tiles will it fill in the grout lines and be smooth or will you have a bumpy/uneven look where the grout lines are?
Asked by: RLB
Although we did ours over a smooth Formica type countertop, I would think that it would be hard to get a smooth surface over tile with grout lines. The undercoat is paint, and may fill in, but it might take several coats to get any smoothness. I wouldd suggest trying a sample space first, before you invest in the kit. It is a reat ptoduct, and we were very happy with the results.

If I was doing a bathroom with built-in shell sinks, can I paint them or do I have to tape them off? Also, I was wondering if the kit was easy to use. I'm thinking about going to Home Depot in the morning and buying it.
Asked by: KRW
I asked about the top coat (considering buying the epoxy option for a harder finish) and this is the answer I got about these molded sinks from Giani themselves: "Hello! Giani's Epoxy Topcoat Kit will work great on your bathroom countertop, but should not be used in the sink bowl/basin. We recommend you tape off the sink bowl area and use Giani on the surrounding area, and use a product such as XIM's Tile Doc on the sink bowl. Thank you and if you have any questions please let us know!"

Previous Counter Color

I want to purchase the Sicilian Sand for the counter tops, but my counter tops are now black. Will the sand color still show up on black counter tops or will it come out to dark?

The old counters were in great shape, but it was time for a change. Now it's time for a touch-up in a few areas where I've set hot pots or scraped the surface, so I just ordered another kit. Definitely would recommend this for someone who wants an easy change to the look of laminate counters. They've stood up remarkably well for a paint job that gets used every day. I had paint left over from the first application so used it on the top of my husband's wood workbench in the garage--it is subject to heat and cold, having all kinds of stuff piled on it, dragged across it--it's still in excellent condition.

They do not look like granite at all. However that being said, I used this to update my huge tiled guest bathroom counter top which was cracked and just a nasty off white or yellow color and I think it turned out beautiful. I painted the recessed ceiling in a dark blue to match the dining room, stole a carpet runner from the dining room and I love it. It is as easy and quick as they say as I was able to finish it in two days over the weekend. I tried to upload photos but it said they were to small, wish I could have shown the counter to everyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weekend with Giani The kit was put together well. The written instructions were good but the instructional video was more helpful and covered a bit more than the written instructions. There were adequate amounts of primer and mineral paints but the topcoat just barely provided the two topcoats. The final outcome turned out great and friends were just astonished with how incredible the counters looked and kept touching the counter and asking "this is just paint?". Now that I've completed this project and have the technique down I wished I had another project to do as the transformation is beautiful and I just keep staring and marveling at the counters.

The final product turned out a lot darker than pictured. The sponge was not large enough to be cut into 3 pieces and a few smaller pieces for the smaller, tight spots of The counter. The final coat, clear coat, is easily scratched and did not fill in evenly. Many comments from guests stated it looked like my cat walked in paint all over my counters. I had to have my counters completely redone professionally. It did not meet my expectantions. It can be done in a weekend, but very time consuming.

I am very impressed with how revitalized the counter tops now appear with such a simple process! I typically forego artsy type finishes simply because I don't like to do them but this was totally different. Apply a base coat, then do three sponge applications, add a finish and that's it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I saved $2500 and my counter looks great This product is awesome. Took a weekend and I have received so many compliments on the countertop. People think it’s a new counter. I’m not handy. But this is so easy you can do it’s also. Don’t spend money on a new counter. Look at the the YouTube videos. Follow the instructions. And you will do great. Love it so much a buddy of mine did his after seeing mine. I would suggest you add some caulking to finish off the edges. Makes a big difference.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not great for a kitchen used daily I wanted to wait a while to post a review after really seeing how the product worked. I did our countertops this time last year. I think the overall initial look was AMAZING, however, if you are someone who uses their kitchen daily to actually cook it doesn't hold up well. In all the areas not used consistently that area looks amazing as the day I did it. The area used daily has had the sealer and paint chipping away. I have had to redue that area 3 times now in the past year. I ended up touching it up again but this time instead of using their seal I bought Famowood Glaze Coat from Menards. This was harder to apply but much more durable. Otherwise I found this product great for a temporary update!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Within 4 months peeling everywhere We bought this as a temporary fix for our counters expecting it to last at least a year until we got quartz ones out in. Sadly, under very light use, they look terrible. Sheen was gone within first month and now they are looking so horrible I contacted Giani with no help from them. Their customer service was basically buy ANOTHER kit, sand and fix it. Ridiculous!
