Can this be mounted directly on a deck railing?

AnswersYes it can. We placed a 2x6 (that fits inside mail box bottom slot) then we attached it to our raiiling. The reason for the 2x6 was so that the door would open completely I love this mailbox on our deck railing and it is water tight. Our mail is always dry.

AnswerI really don't think HD has people that can replace or install the box. If you just need to replace the box. Its really a simple job. Just remove the old one and replace with this one. Most times they just screw into the bases. Take out the old screws, remove the box, place the box back on the base and screw the new one in place. If it's a little more detailed job such as replacing the base. Purchase a new base at HD. Remove the old base after you remove the box. Screw in the new base and the box on top of the base. Both jobs can be done with basic hand tools. If you don't feel you can do. Might suggest asking a neighbour. Its a quick and easy job.

JUNK. Door will not stay closed
If you don't mind wet mail this mailbox is fine. after having our address put on the box i find that no matter how it's mounted the door pops open. mail carrier said he sees it happen often. going back to the cheaper plastic ones.

Great Mailbox!
This mailbox was a breeze to install and fit on the existing post perfectly. I really like the adjustable latch for the door which the tension can be easily adjusted to preference with a pair of pliers. Well Built and for 20.00 it would be tough to beat this mailbox!

Defective manufacturing
Each side had a bit of a bowed out portion in the middle, which allowed for air and possibly water to come into the base of the mailbox. The box it came in was fine. I was sent a replacement after submitting photos to Gibraltar, which was nice. This will be updated when the replacement mailbox is received. It might have been a glitch in manufacturing.

Our mailbox finally bit the dust after our toddlers pulled down on the door too hard. I was looking for the quickest and cheapest fix since I didn’t want to spend the time to replace the entire mailbox (new post, concrete, etc). The Gibraltar mailbox fit the bill in both aspects. I already had the wood mailbox post in place, so I just removed my old mailbox and plopped on the new one. I used the screws from the old mailbox to screw this one down. I did also buy the universal mailbox mounting board, but it was not necessary for our installation. It is doing great and my kids love running out to the new mailbox to check for mail.
