The Anchor Post Kit is a terrific solution for fast and simple installation of popular plastic mailbox and post combinations that require installation over a 4x4 post. The wooden post in the kit installs directly into the ground without the need for digging or anchoring it in concrete. The kit also includes a steel drive-in anchor.

- Wooden post measures 23.5″ tall after placing in ground

STEER CLEAR - This is NOT the post you're looking for!
If I could give this 0 or a negative number of stars I would. It was "recommended" by HD as the post I needed for the chonky Step 2 mailbox I also ordered. Besides the 3 months I waited on it (customer service was contacted and they cancelled and reordered it) I ended up having to scrap this colossal disaster and start over. We ended up with a totally different mailbox, as we knew looking at the original would just remind us of this nightmare! Will be returning as soon as I knock off all the concrete. Pic added for visual as well as the entertainment value. Do not buy this product!

Not a good start
Ordered, and was very late from estimated store delivery. Then got the wood, got home opened it to find the wood is practically split. Drove back to store to return. Will do one more order to give benefit of the doubt. Quality control has to step up their game.

Scrap Wood
The 4x4 included in the set had long checks and splits throughout the piece. The wood did not appear to be able to handle the pounding into the ground or the stake. Very poor quality.

Went online to your "Post Kit" directions and finally understood what to do. It was really much easier than I thought. I saved $375.00. With your "Post Kit and your "Beautiful Gibraltar mailbox."

This kit was easy to install.We used a hammer sideways to drive steel anchor into ground it helped that the soil was soft from all the rain we've had as we didnt have a sledgehammer at our disposal .I purchased the Step 2 mailbox and used this kit to install it .I would recommend this kit .I left the back wood cover plate for mailbox off so you can see the wood from the kit works great

I don't recommend this product. We bought this along with the Gibraltar Stratford mailbox. The 4x4 is too short. The top of the mailbox ends up being hollow using this and you have nothing to screw the mailbox into at the top. It's also really not sturdy at all.
We tried to make this work and added a piece of 4x4 to the top of this. (I will attach a picture). This gave us something to screw into, but the mailbox was just so shaky. If you opened the mailbox the whole pole would move.
We ended up buying a 4x4x6, digging a 2 foot hole, put the pole in, fill with quickrete and 20 minutes later installed the mailbox over the 4x4.
I do not recommend this product if you want a level,sturdy mailbox.

It was easier to install than a post you have to dig a hole to install. You need to purchase a mailbox kit to fit over it, so the picture is of the mailbox kit installed over the post.

This is the perfect fit for the vinyl sleeve mailbox...
This is the perfect fit for the vinyl sleeve mailbox post. However, it is a two person installation due to the fact that someone needs to hold it straight up until another person can put it in the ground using a sledgehammer. But it really does the job.

Improved post kit!
The anchor post kit is well made and definitely an improvement of the wood post that was used previously which required cement and was subject to termites. Requires effort to get the steel into the post and into the ground but it worked out well.
