Thank you for your inquiry. As this is a static cling (adhesive free) film, you may install it on plastic or Lexan windows. We suggest you carefully follow our installation instructions and never trim the film directly on the window.

does this product stay in place even if there is condensation on glass? or will it move or bubble...

Warm, moist air near a very cold surface tends to cause water vapor to condense as water droplets on that cold surface. The colder the surface, the higher the probability of condensation. As a rule, condensation on a pane tends to be less likely after a film installation. This is an unintended side benefit of a film installation. Film, in most cases, helps keep the glass surface slightly warmer, thus reducing the likelihood of moisture condensing on it. Should condensation still occur after an installation, there are many kinds of commercially available “anti-fogging” compounds (such as those applied to bathroom mirrors) that can be applied to the film to dramatically reduce this condensation.

Hello Val and thank you for your inquiry. This product is not considered a blackout film, but it is the darkest black Gila Window Film at 6% visible light transmitted (VLT). It will offer daytime privacy (from outside looking in), but it will not offer any privacy at night.

how do you keep the windows clean?

Answers

Hello Gerry and thank you for your inquiry. The best way to clean the film is to use the Gila Application Solution and a rubber squeegee. Thoroughly spray the area to be cleaned with the solution. Spray your hand. Rub the area to break up any dirt or grease. re-spray and squeegee. Use lint-free towels or paper coffee filters to wipe up excess soapy solution. It is safe to use Ammonia-based window cleaners if the cleaner doesn't sit on the film for a prolonged period of time (no more than 1-2 minutes).

This will work in a car?

Hi Rick and thank you for your inquiry. Residential films, as a rule, should not be applied to car windows because reflectance (a measure of how shiny the film is) is often higher than what is typically legally permissible for cars in various states. There is a special line of Gila Window Films specifically designed for automotive use.

Dies this film allow me to see OUT while others cannot see IN durring the day?

Asked by Mimi1 July 16, 2020

Answers

Yes, you can see out. The outside will obviously look darker due to the film, but, no one will be able to look into your window unless they are pressing their face against the glass and shielding their eyes from the sun. And if someone is that determined to look into your window, I think you'll see them as they approach the window.

Can it be installed on outside if windows

Thank you for your inquiry. The Gila Privacy Control Black should be installed on the exterior side of dual pane windows.

I give it 5 stars because during the day you can't see a thing from the outside through the window. The squirrel can't see the cat in the window when it's on the window ledge. That's exactly what I was looking for. It was a pain to put on by myself - it looks like a bad tint job but I could care less. If you care about no bubbles and straight lines, get yourself a second person. I might have missed where it said to buy the spray to go with it but I just used a drop of dawn in a 12oz squirt bottle with warm water and it helped immensely. The only drawback is that it is no help in blocking privacy at night. It only gives you about 25% visibility as people can see in but not read the captions on your TV. I figure that's what curtains are for. If you're looking for daytime privacy I highly recommend this!

Exactly what I was looking for, and easy to apply (if you follow specific instructions)
I bought this privacy film to reduce the amount of heat coming in though our garage door windows. Although it's not nearly as dark as I was expecting (the product listing main photo is a bit misleading), privacy wasn't the reason why I bought this so it wasn't really an issue for me. I was easy to install, but, just as other reviewers noted, it is important to spray A LOT of the liquid on the window and on both sides of the film, before and after you remove the backing paper. As long as you keep it very wet, it's easy to place and move around the film to get it in the right spot on the window. Once you squeegee the liquid off of the film, it sticks to the window really well. One other thing: the specs say that this shouldn't be used on plastic or plexiglass. I'm pretty sure my garage windows are plexiglass but I took a chance with it anyway. It's been several days and so far no problem and it is still sticking well.

Application is easy with the window film kit that is sold separately. We have east facing windows and trying to sleep in was like trying to sleep with lights on. These really kept the room dark.

We had some privacy concerns, didn't want to adjust our blonds constantly to enjoy the view if our front lawn. Purchased this window film from Home Depot. Price was very reasonable. Applying this film was a no brainier. As long as you have a glass in good and very clean condition. I used a very cheap window cleaner to apply this film to my windows. Than used a window squeegee very patiently to remove the windows cleaner out. After that cut the film with a very sharp exacto knife and used my squeegee to remove the air/water bubbles. The only issue I have with this film that it's very very dark. Causing us to look other windows in the mornings to see if it's the sun is out yet :-). We have double windows you need to make sure your windows are always clean from outside in order to enjoy clear view. All and all it's a great buy and works great for us.

I purchased this for my home in the desert. It applied easily and looked very good. I checked on it a few hours later and the Window had a massive crack across it which I guess was due to the heat expansion caused by the dark surface. It was a dual pane window and the instructions said to apply to the exterior. It was installed according to the instructions. Now I must replace the window. The whole experiences has been an expensive lesson.
