Questions & Answers

No Tools Needed ?

is this the rod that advertises "no tools needed?" if not, what tools are needed for installation?
Asked by: CmdrJLS
You'll need to have a drill, screw driver & a way to level the rod on hand, in addition, I'd recommend having additional anchors on hand.

I would like to use this to cover a dorm closet but I cannot drill holes in the wall. Could I use command hooks to hold it in place? Or Does it need to be anchored to a wall?

This is a great quality shower rod. The unfortunate thing is that my husband put it up already without me present, and it really is too big for our small bathroom. It makes the shower curtain jut out too much and crowds the toilet next to the shower. Is there any way to switch out the curved rod for a straight one that fits the same mounting brackets? Or a way to shorten the curve so it doesn't jut out quite as much. We don't really want to take the brackets down because they are screwed into studs. Trying to figure out a solution. It is a nice shower rod, but really would work best in very large bathrooms.

Use plastic dry wall twist anchors.

Rustproof 72 in. Adjustable Permanent Mount Curved Shower Rod in Brushed Nickel is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 267.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent and pretty easy to install and follow the directions.... Decent and pretty easy to install and follow the directions. BUT ... be aware the end caps that cover the brackets are pretty poorly designed. Biggest thing: you can actually see the brackets through the slot opening that the rod fits around. Our old (and now rusted) rod assembly completely covered the bracket. The photo on the box is misleading because it shows you the inside-the-shower view of the mount, not the view you see from the bathroom door.Obviously the curtain covers this poor design on one end, but not the other if you leave the curtain open. Also, it may seem like the caps don't click on and fit snugly. You just need to bend them in slightly from the top and bottom before placement to get the click. We'll see how it holds up.

In reading reviews people were saying it was hard to install and you need two people. I am a single woman and i was able to install on my own. I used a piece of masking tape to hold endocarps in place to put posts in the ends and i slid the one bar all the way into the other, balanced on my head, installed one end, pulled out the rest of the bar and installed the other end. I also had to drill into tile. Found some tips on pinterst for doing that. Women, do not be afraid to tackle this on your own. if I can do it, you can do it. I will say this much, if you have kids that might pull on the shower curtain then this is not the rod for you. But for adult use, no problem.

The end caps that cover the rod holders that go into the wall are a rather cheap looking. The black portion of the rod holder that screws into the wall can be seen through the end cap from the outside of the shower, which is not optimal, but it's OK. That is the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. If you have to mount the rod close to the shower unit and you do not have enough room under the cover plates, you cannot insert the bottom screw into the cover. The entire cover plate could be designed better. That would not prevent me from purchasing it again as it does work, just does not work perfectly.

Just installed yesterday so won't know for some time on the rust, but overall a good product. It's more economical than many other options, so I'm ok with the rod and the look of the end brackets. Installation was easy. I used their recommendation and installed even with the edge of my tub. It does come a bit out into the bathroom space, but it's perfect for my space. Would strongly recommend doing a dry fit and have someone hold it against the wall and confirm that your bathroom has enough space to accommodate the location. Otherwise, move back in on the tub until you find the compromise of space in the tub and clearance in the bathroom. Do this prior to drilling. Also be careful with the height--your curtain will hang higher on the tub since it's being pulled out away from the tub. Recommended height in the instructions was perfect for my location. I got a stud on one side, and used plastic insert anchors into the tile on the other. The brackets are sufficiently anchored like this and I'm confident with the strength. The rod is extremely lightweight aluminum, not sure a heavy towel or robe can be hung in the middle, so I've advised the family to not hang anything at all, or if you do, put it on the end near the bracket. Overall, the product is exactly what I needed and expected in this price range.

What I thought was going to be nice shower rod, ended up being a pain in the butt. The instructions need work. They are clear on some things but others its trial and error. Yes, a shower rod should be very simple to install but i read the directions. Next, the stupid microscopic set screws to hold the pot metal covers on...seriously? Why would you put an allen style set screw on something that is literally 1/8'' from the wall? Would i recommend this?....never. Glacier Bay has really nice products but this is far from it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Came with plastic drywall ackermans in case you can't find... Came with plastic drywall ackermans in case you can't find a stud. A 2 screw, plastic mounting block on each end, then snap on metal cover. Has 4 little allen screws on each end that allow adjustment of tilt, but hard to see why anyone would bother with that. Says rustproof. Will have to wait and see, because old one replaced was very rusted. Suggest plastic curtain hangers to reduce scratching. Don't forget to install the little tubular gasket between halves of the main telescoping rod.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from we wanted to replace a rubbed bronze with chrome. this... we wanted to replace a rubbed bronze with chrome. this one works and is sturdy enough. the bar makes a 90 right out of the mount vs. a curve. this brings it out sooner, slightly blocking a window that adjoins the tub on one end. for that reason we moved the bar in 2.5" more than the specified mounting location, so the window frame was not obstructed.

I highly recommend having two people when installing, if at all possible. Seems to be holding up just fine after several uses and gives that extra space we so desperately needed for our upper bodies. 5 stars
