Hudson 2-Light Brushed Nickel with Chrome Accents Semi-Flush Mount Ceiling Light

This fixture looks great and is an excellent value. Because it is open, it allows excellent air flow, and LED bulbs will stay cool. Closed fixtures tend to cause LED bulbs to overheat and burn out. I do not understand why so many light fixtures they sell these days are enclosed because both LED and CFL bulbs tend to overheat and burn out in enclosed fixtures. The open design also allows indirect light to reflect off the ceiling. I would rather use bulbs than an integrated fixture. With bulbs you can choose your brightness and color, and if they burn out, they are easy to replace. Large bulbs, including the very large A21 size, fit just fine. The dome in this lamp is larger than it looks in some of the pictures. I have included a picture of the lamp with both 100-watt equivalent LED and CFL bulbs. The LED bulb is size A21. The much smaller bulb on the floor is a standard A19 60-watt equivalent LED bulb. The box says A15 bulbs are "required", but this is not correct. They might be preferred, but they are not required. The brushed nickel items are the base that mounts to the ceiling, the rod that connects to the base, and the large ring at the bottom of the dome. Only the small knob under the large ring and the 2 nuts that hold the base to the ceiling are chrome. Installation was more difficult than it should have been. With my electrical outlet boxes, the outlet box screws that hold the mounting strip to the outlet box interfere with the mounting screws that go through the canopy. The mounting strip should be wider to allow more distance between the screw holes. I solved this problem by attaching 2 mounting strips together in an "X" shape. This required cutting a small piece of threaded bar and using it to screw 2 mounting strips together through the center hole. I attached some other old mounting strips together by drilling holes in them and using short machine screws. If you try this, be sure to leave the hole open in the middle of the mounting strips because the wires need to go through the hole. Another solution that could work is to cut off the heads off the mounting screws.

Simply Beautiful

This light is an awesome value for the money. Looks great in a small room, and yes, it uses small size A15 light bulbs, as this light is small itself. I used 4000K A15 bulbs, and that makes room colors look more natural.

It's ok looking. However it's not actual Nickel. It's all chrome plated thin steel with flat finish parts that are supposed to look like brushed nickel. Nickel goes not rust. While rust would not be a huge problem in let's say a bedroom in a dry climate any exposure to humidity/moisture like in bath and ktchens rusts out low quality chrome plating in short order. Most manufacturers make this misreprentation but that dies not make it right. In addition, when I installed it I had to make hardware modifications.
