Big Blue for Rain Barrel Project
I bought 2 barrels online and picked them up from the store. They arrived as promised and came well-packed in corrugated. The associate also brought them out to my truck. Stored inside the barrel is the cast hose bibb, teflon tape and 2 plastic plugs. The plugs are provided in case you don't want to install the hose bibb nor an equalizing hose. I installed the hose bibb and an equalizing hose to connect two barrels together. There is a plastic debris screen on top of the barrel. I aligned the barrel with this screen directly under the rain gutter down-spout. The first storm brought about 1 1/2" of rain in our area and filled both barrels within an hour. I have a high-profile house with a steep 7 in 12 pitch asphalt roof.

55gallon barrel
The only thing I didn't like is that they cut a hole in the top to put the hardware in the barrel. Otherwise the plug and spout work fine. They are full and there is no leaking.

The only issue I had was fitting the tap. It took about 8 wraps of the PTFE tape. Normally it takes 2 to 3 wraps on a normal connection, but when I did that, the water leaked out. I had to do this four times until I reached the 8 wraps of the tape before there were no leaks.

Rain barrel with 4" dia hole in top
Wanted a closed water storage barrel, not a rain barrel. Came with 4" dia hole drilled in top & plastic screen. Sealed the opening with silicone & plastic disc for a dust cover.
Brass faucet arrived rattling around the barrel with a broken handle. HD replaced the faucet. Good for a rain collection barrel. Not for emergency water storage.

I haven't gotten the barrel fully set up yet, but want to make this comment. The lid is not removable to minimize as far as possible the risk of drowning. There's a removable screen--about 4 inches by 4 inches in size--for hosing out the barrel. Fine, good idea. But--the barrel instructions and spigots were put inside the barrel for shipping. So I'll remove the screen to get the instructions. But why make it so difficult for your customers? Why not attach the instructions by tape to the outside of the barrel???
