Get a Silicone Cover. It Does Help
Going back and forth between this one and the new Gen 2 wired.
Since the Google app now supports this version, no reason to go with the new Gen 2.
First, the camera on gen 2 is 1.3MP. Lower than this one. There is a reason that it is cheaper than this model when IT was released.
But $99 is a steal.
Also, if you purchased with a CC, some have warranty extensions. Do check it out.
I also like how Google has a stock reply for complaints on this item.

Was slightly more difficult to get to work than I thought as it must be locked into the housing to work, but I did buy the battery one but wired it anyhow. Great picture and sound,

Not durable, won't last much past a year
Not sure why I would pay $230 for a simple product that will not work. On my second replacement, now the indoor chime doesn't work and the faceplate is peeling off, Google says "sorry, can't help you". Guess I'll try RING..

Great camera, but extra FEES
The camera is amazing and easy to install, even just beginners. The system sends alerts to phone and PC too. I think the price you pay should include the storage of video if needed. I did buy household cameras for lesser costs and no monthly fees.

Buyer Beware - Known Failure within 24 months
These doorbells fail right after warranty ends. There is a known delamination issue where the clear coating bubbles, cracks, and peels away, exposing the electronics inside to weather.
These were installed in January of 2020 these are images from Oct '21

Delaminating
I purchased this Google door bell based on its good reviews. It's working as expected. The reason for the poor review is its quality of materials and construction. It's a year and a half old and the face of it is delaminating very badly. I called Google for help and the CSR told me, “it's out of warranty and to go buy a new one" I'm writing this to inform potential purchasers to not waste $299.00. Just don't buy it, the quality of materials and construction doesn't stand up. Their customer service response is just as bad.

Terrible customer service on peeling device faceplate
My Nest video door bell is 2 years old it is cracking and peeling on the faceplate. I figured hey no problem Google will take care of this as it is an expensive outdoor device with a 2 year warranty and it's obviously a design , manufacture issue. After trying to get some customer service I received my last email from a "Senior" customer rep. and was told NEST -GOOGLE will not do anything about this issue, The internet is full of customers reporting the same problem. I currently have over 14 Nest products in my home and I can say this will be the last one I ever buy. Customer service can care less about their customers.

Falls Apart After Awhile (See Photo)
So I have had this doorbell for a couple years and it fell apart and has been peeling. Even the lens cover fell out. Google won't help because "out of warranty"
Also this requires a huge amount of bandwith, even with the highest tier of internet for our location (1gb). The footage is jumpy and there is lag when talking to people. We even upgraded to google wifi router system, didn't help.
