Will it seal a crack on the plastic part of a radiator?

Asked by: Abc
I have sealed cracks in plastic radiator header tanks using epoxy adhesives but it is quite an involved process and will only last a year or two. I did not use this particular brand of adhesive. The surface must be cleaned of oil , grease and coolant and be completely dry. An area surrounding the crack must be sanded large enough to extend at least a half inch all around the crack. A patch of fiberglass cloth must be cut big enough to extend beyond the crack by at least a half inch. Apply the adhesive to the sanded area and rub it in with the applicator. Apply the patch over the adhesive and apply another layer of adhesive so the texture of the cloth is filled completely. Allow enough time for the adhesive to cure completely before using the car. This product claims to be able to withstand temperatures up to 300*F which is higher than the operating temperature of a car's radiator. There are epoxies that claim to withstand higher temperatures.

The manufacturer does not recommend using on polyethylene or polypropylene plastics - but absolutely do NOT get this near polystyrene plastic - in the past I have used polystyrene cups for mixing Gorilla Epoxy Clear but when I mixed GorillaWeld in a polystrene cup it immediately melted the white inside surface and started melting the red outer portion of the cup - see photos - looks like a chemical reaction. Additionally the package directs you to puncture the seal with the plastic cap, be sure to wipe off any excess residue, I was in a hurry and the excess on the tube of resin melted the plastic coated label, this is potent stuff with an appropriately potent odor.

It works well but is sized for small projects - can't imagine what a large project would cost. It does what it was designed to do - bond things together permanently. The color is black that works in most cases. It can be sanded and painted. Would I purchase again? YES.

I used this on a broken plastic gas valve handle and it worked great, it was strong enough in 15 minutes to turn the fixed handle without breaking. The epoxy does heat up thru a chemical reaction, so just be aware of that while it is setting up.
