It looks like the sides have stake pockets. Has anyone put stakes in there for added capacity of light materials like branches or leaves?
Asked by: Rock
I used 1" x 2" (the pockets are 3/4" x 2") pine boards to build rails that comes up another 10" (the poly sides are only maybe 8-9" high) mainly so that I can haul the children in it like a wagon without worrying about them tipping out of the sides. So long as you securely connect the side rails to the front rail, it provides a good deal of side-to-side stability for keeping loads in. Notice in the corners I added an extra piece which is screwed in from both the side and the front rail to marry them all together and add a lot of support.

Gorilla cart, which I had completely worn out. That cart had served me well for several years, but I ask a lot from my garden cart, and when the tires wore out and the cart became ricketty, I decided it was time for a new one. The 800 lb. version is a step up. The cart bed is made of a heavier plastic, and the frame is far sturdier. Gorilla has updated the frame on all its carts (I think), so the steering mechanism is much more robust. It's a solid machine, which it has to be to haul the stone, mulch, sand, gravel, plants, etc. that need to be somewhere other than my driveway. Currently, I'm building stone pathways and a dry creek, and this cart is indispensable. I chose the 800 lb. model instead of the even heavier models because I have to haul whatever's in it by myself. I don't have a lawn tractor, so the weight of the cart, itself, is a major factor. This one is just perfect for me. I am a pretty small, 67-year-old woman, and I can easily maneuver it, fully loaded. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, Maneuverable Cart This is a great option for someone who wants a cart that can be either pulled by hand or towed behind a lawn mower. I've had wheelbarrows and tow-carts and neither of them work in all circumstances, but this is kind of the perfect blend between the two. Assembly is pretty straightforward and requires minimal tools. It took about 30 mins to get everything unboxed and put together. This cart is very well made and is easy to maneuver by hand. The locking mechanism that releases the cart to dump is very smooth and easy to use. The bed itself is also sturdy - I stood in the center of the cart and there was virtually no give. My only complaint is very minor, and it's that the back end of the cart could be more slanted. A little more slant would keep small amounts of content from staying in the cart even when it's in a vertical position. Again, that's VERY minor though. Overall, this is a great cart that covers just about all the basis.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Once you go Gorilla Cart - You'll Never go back to a regular wheelbarrow. I would always have problems with a normal wheelbarrow wheeling heavy dirt and objects down hill. A normal wheelbarrow would tilt over and spill its contents and it was hard on the back. The gorilla cart is much more stable over uneven ground and up or down hills. I could also move much heavier loads with much less effort and less bending. If you have to move lots of mulch, dirt firewood etc then this would be ideal. It could even turn a pretty tight corner and roll backwards or forwards. When dumping a heavy load, the wheels roll under the bin to help support the weight so it is less pressure on you. I would mention that you should not assemble this indoors or in your garage. It will stink up your house for days. Assemble it outside because there is a lot of really foul smelling off-gassing that comes from the cart. I allowed it to sit outside for awhile to let the smell dissipate.

I received my cart, picked up at the store (didn't want it sitting on my front porch for half a day), and brought it home and assembled it. Took approximately one hour. All the nuts, bolts, washers, and cotter pins were "Blister packed" so nothing was rattling around. Directions were pretty well laid out, and my recommendation would be to use Metric sockets: 13mm, 17mm, 22mm, & 24MM, if you have them. Using a large Phillips screwdriver and ratchet make assembly go rather quickly, without mangling any of the nuts. My only concern with the cart is the neck of the handle could, over time, have a tendency to damage the front of the cart. The cart box is made of H.D. poly, but the front of the box should be reinforced (made thicker) to eliminate the handle from cracking or damaging the box. Otherwise a well made unit, and it dumps rather well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from would have given it 5 stars if the plastic tub was thicker, it is thin, arrived with two bent parts which the manufacturer sent replacements promptly. I had bought the 600 pound version which was too flimsy, so I returned it and bought this one thinking "heavy duty" means just that, with the first load of small rocks, upon dumping them, the scratched the bed so bad, they grooved it. So I lined it up with a rubber mat (glued on with high performance polyeurthene to fill in the gaps then Linex like truck bed liner and now, I have an indestructible cart. Yet at the cost of double the purchase price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cart! I was looking at carts to carry beach chairs, coolers, umbrellas to the ocean from our house (1/2 mile away). The big issue was the wheels.....regular wagon wheels were too skinny and difficult to pull on the sand. After looking at many different carts and wagons, I found this one. I read many reviews and TOTALLY agree with this tip: about a week or more before you are going to assemble this, open the box OUTSIDE where it can be under cover and just let it air out. IT SMELLS AWFUL! It eventually will dissipate. Assembly isn't a problem, though it takes some maneuvering to fit all the bolts in. The cart is well-built, sturdy, and rolls nicely. The fat pneumatic tires are quiet on the road and move quite well through the sand. I am real happy with this cart and highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Helper In The Yard and For Vacation The gorilla cart is my new favorite toy. Let me start with the assembly. It was super easy. This is because the hardware is package in the individual steps you need it for (I have attached a pic). Once assembled it is solid and maneuvers great. The heavy duty tires work well on uneven terrain. I can't wait to bring this on vacation and haul all of my beach gear with it. The dumping feature may also come in handy for some serious sand castle building.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made but OMG, the smell! I thought the other reviewers were exaggerating about the smell but holy cow is it stinky! Even when I moved it outside it stunk up the air within 25 feet of it. Moved it out to the shed until it hopefully loses the stench. It's a very unusual strong pungent plastic/rubber/chemical smell that is a little worrying to me because I wonder if it's toxic to touch or inhale the fumes. I will say that the construction seems very strong and well thought out. The previous version of the gorilla carts appear to have used mostly angle iron whereas this uses much stronger square tube steel. I expect it to last for a very long time - I just hope the smell doesn't last too long.
