Can the ladder be converted into two pieces to be used as scaffolding ?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Dman
I thought all the people who were saying that this could be turned into two bases for a scaffolding were nuts until I visited the MFG's website. The two bottom sections can be removed and for about $20-25 you can purchase a pair of brackets that allow you to make a second A-frame from the two bottom sections. Super-handy! Search this site for "MPX Aluminum Rail Brackets".

We need reach our ceiling fan at about 17ft. Will this slide up to reach it or does it need to open the whole way.

Asked by: Mommabear
I've been using mine to reach 18' ceiling in my loft condo. I'm 6'4". Ideally, you should be using the 26' model if you're accessing the ceiling from the A frame configuration. I did not feel very stable or safe this way and prepped everything ahead of time so that I was able limit the times spent at this height to just a couple of minutes. If you use it as a straight extension ladder against a wall, this 17' model is fine. It's a beautifully-designed piece of equipment, in general.

Super easy to use but a couple notes: Good - feels solid, easy twist and click intuitive controls. Does what the pictures show. Meh - few locking positions for the "folded" / V shape, which is on purpose but can be seen as limiting. HEAVY compared to a regular ladder (about 50 lbs compared to 10 or less for regular aluminum indoor 6' ladders - keep in mind it's length, so that 50lbs is also awkward to swing around), so its use inside for lightbulb changing is unlikely. To extend to 22' there is a major hitch - you don't "roll up" like an extension ladder; you unfold the ladder and then prop up. This isn't a big idea if you're in a yard reaching the ground, but at my house I need a 22' extension from a balcony to reach the roof. Instead of planting and just "rolling it up," I have to have it already extended, and then figure out how to swing it up from the balcony already extended. Totally worth it, but don't throw out your other ladders to get this one.

This product is better than The Little Giant for one simple reason—price. But this is more important than just budget. For a much lower price you get a ladder with the highest duty rating available (IAA). Even though I don't get close to this capacity, I think it serves as a good base for a safe experience. Of course you still have to follow proper safety practices. Most importantly, make sure the ladder always has sturdy footing, the hinges are fully engaged, and when the ladder is in its extension configuration (completely straight) make sure it's leaning at a 75 degree angle. A good rule of thumb is to measure 1 ft. away from the wall for every 4 ft. of height on the wall. Please don't disregard this. Take out your measuring tape EVERY TIME. I'm very happy using this product, and I'm happy that the price is accessible enough so I can afford a product fit for professional use.

It helped me complete several projects last week. It is strong enough to hold both me and my husband when more than two hands are needed. The only issue, and why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stairs, is the weight. It is very heavy and if it weren't for the wheels, I would be unable to move it from place to place without dragging it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built super tough I have 2 other similar ladders from another manufacturer and I have been happy overall with them. But neither ones is of much use outside the home. This 22 foot ladder from Gorilla will get the job done on the outside of a home as well as those extension ladders, but this one you can fold in half for storage. No ropes needed. Plus it's relatively easy to carry. It is on the heavy side but in my opinion, any Joe Weekend won't have any trouble. This ladder is extremely well built. Excellent balance. Excellent weight to keep you in place when having to use it on soft material such as grass. The locking mechanisms were easy to use compared to my other two ladders. Simply twist them and they lock. No more using both hands. The ladder feet are curved and with the very thick shoes, it will offer plenty of security and safety. Offering 10 positions for use on stairs, will make the job easy to access. The instruction book is very readable. Clear pictures. With another Gorilla ladder, you can purchase trestle brackets to make your own scaffolding. This ladder is heirloom quality.

I purchased this ladder about one month ago. The hinge release/locking device does not engage fully when using as an "A" frame ladder, which means it is not totally locked when spreading the rails (safety issue if for some reason it is not seen before getting up the ladder), so it has to be disengaged again to get it to engage. Also, when lowering the inside rails for storage, the bottom of the inside rails hang on this inside cross bracket of the outside rails. In addition, although it can be used for two "A" frame scaffolding supports, extra parts (trestle kit) have to be purchased to be able to utilize it in this fashion. Why not spend a little extra for the Little Giant or for that matter, units that are about the same price as this unit already has this capability without the purchase of the extra trestle kit. All of this adds up to frustration and my not recommending this ladder.

I am a heavy set guy weighing around 250lbs and have had no issues with this ladder. It folds nicely away in my garage and it's not as heavy as I expected it to be as I have a multi-level home which can make it more inconvenient moving it around. You have to really pay attention when extending or collapsing the ladder so you don't get your finger or skin caught during the process, Read the instructions. The ladder definitely extends to 22ft when fully opened up, which is extremely useful when trying reach to high places. The wider ladder ends with the tough rubber cushions gives me more safety confidence in any configuration, specially because I am a heavy set person. great ladder for the price point.

Bought the ladder based on recommendations from a professional acquaintance. I'm an independent adjuster and the weight was a key factor in choosing this ladder. I have an older Little Giant ladder that is much heavier (I don't use it in my profession for that reason). My friend's Gorilla ladder has wheels that came on the ladder. Mine did not come with wheels nor did Home Depot have one available with wheels. Additionally, you don't stock the wheel kit in store. Disappointed with having to order and wait over a week to receive the wheel kit. Overall pleased with the product to date...just disappointed in not being able to find the additional items in store.

Am I ever glad I only lost $100 on it. It is heavy and bulky. Forget about using it anywhere inside. You need a lot of room to make any changes in configuration. I attempted to paint a stairwell with it and it was impossible to maneuver. Forty pounds doesn't seem like much until you get it extended or in a step ladder configuration. Look out if you would happen to have it lean too far back. I don't think you could keep it from crashing down. It shouldn't take two people to set this thing up. Ever notice that professional painters don't use these death traps? Wish I could get my money back.
