Can the ladder be converted into two pieces to be used as scaffolding ?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Dman
I thought all the people who were saying that this could be turned into two bases for a scaffolding were nuts until I visited the MFG's website. The two bottom sections can be removed and for about $20-25 you can purchase a pair of brackets that allow you to make a second A-frame from the two bottom sections. Super-handy! Search this site for "MPX Aluminum Rail Brackets".

Reach MPX Aluminum Multi-Position Ladder is one if those home purchases that you wonder how you managed without. This is by far, the MOST STABLE ladder I have used. My property is uneven with rolling terrain; I purchased the ladder to get me up to the rain gutters for clean out. I'm a big guy, (6'/230+ pounds) and this thing did not move. At one end of the house, a simple 5' ladder would suffice however at the other end, you need about 12' to get to the gutters. Regardless of extension, those wide bases coupled with the strong construction made the job a lot safer for this older fella. Yes, it is on the pricey side when compared to other ladders, but consider what a trip to the emergency room would cost, not to mention the down time and you will understand why I made this purchase. I should mention that all of this stability has a downside in the form of a slightly heavier ladder, but again, small compromise for the extra stability you get. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!

A little on the heavy side for carrying up steps but doable with one person. Better with two. I used this to install a ceiling fan/light combo in a raised ranch house. I used the stair case configuration which is why I purchased this ladder. The placement was over the raised entrance with a 11 ft. height. I am 6'2" with long arms and I got the job done. I could have used another step to make the job a little easier. The 26 Ft. is too wide for our staircase when I measured the stances of the 22 and the 26 ft. ladders at Home Depot. The ladder was not hard to operate with the lock design but be careful as to where you have you hands. Keep them outside the ladder rungs as the extensions will easily collapse when both locks are released. The manufacturer could use some type of friction like a poly disk or bar to slow up the movement of the extensions. I have never used a Little Giant so I am unable to compare Little Giant and Gorilla.

For an average homeowner this is probably the best option in a ladder for the money. If it was lighter would be 5 stars and then some. As it is, call it 4.5 since it does everything you could ask in a typical home setting. Pros: Sturdy and flexible. It can be a short step ladder for those ceiling lights, or raise the extensions to reach up to an entryway chandelier. Outside lay out flat to get up to roof and gutters on most 2 story homes. Wide and heavy construction stays put where it's set up and doesn't wobble. When the work is done it folds up to a nice compact package which fits in a broom closet. Cons: Sturdy construction unfortunately means it is heavy. Weighs close to 40 pounds, which is an asset to stability but makes lugging it around a chore. Putting it up at full extension really should have 2 people to do it safely. Definitely keep hands away from the rungs when sliding the extensions back in as the weight can build up momentum quickly.

I need many different types and sizes of ladders around my home but storage space is a problem. This ladder fills all my needs: I can use it as a step ladder for my indoor projects yet it can extend far enough so that I can reach my 2nd story gutters when working outdoors. When folded up, it takes up the space of a small step ladder, so storage isn't difficult and I don't need to have 3-4 other ladders anymore. I was skeptical about how sturdy and stable an extendable multi-position ladder would be, but found this ladder to be better than many other "homeowner" quality aluminum extension ladders I have used in the past. I also like the 375lb weight limit, since by the time I have geared up with my tools any project supplies that I have to carry up the ladder that usually puts me well over the 225lb weight limit I have seen on most comparable ladders.

When it has a good footing (level and firm) I can climb to the top (as recommended as a step ladder) with my tools (total approx 275 lbs) and it is as solid as if I was on the ground. No wiggles when I reach out or shift positions from the ladder. It is also very easy to adjust to desired heights. I have not used as an extension ladder at this time.My only disappointment is I cannot reach the maximum height as stated on the packing material and still feel comfortable. I am 5 ft 8 inches tall but my comfortable height is about a foot shorter than the packing material. If you are close to this working height I suggest getting the next size up just to be safe. This is due to my not going up the extra step not really a fault of the ladder. Just my personal safety feeling.

I consolidated two old ladders--a traditional step ladder and a large extension ladder--into this one and from a functionality standpoint it works well. I was a bit worried that the weight and bulk would make it a pain to move around but I find that's really a non-event. There are two reasons why I give it only 3 stars: first, the steps are fairly shallow, so when the ladder is extended and they aren't doubled up, it doesn't give you much depth to step on and it's a slip risk. Second, this ladder is one MASSIVE pinch point. Although you do learn how to position your fingers so they don't get caught between rungs when adjusting it, you don't necessarily think of the ladder's sides as being pinch points also, as my forearm learned a couple of days ago. I had my arm wrapped around the ladder holding the steps and as I adjusted the height, the side of the ladder literally trapped my skin--I had to reverse the adjustment to set it free. Overall, I like the ladder and would recommend it. But beware that this ladder can do some bodily damage if you aren't careful!

I needed to replace a light in our 14 foot ceiling, and had only an ancient extension ladder. After several near death experiences, I bit the bullet and purchased the 22ft. Gorilla ladder. I'd had experiences with similar ladders from other manufacturers, and they all tended to be very heavy, hard to setup and I have clear memories of pinched fingers from the locking mechanisms. To my surprise, the Gorilla is very light, and I had is setup in an awkward location, half on the stairs, half on the floor, in a matter of minutes. The ladder was sturdy and secure, and I had no problems working from it, and when I was done, take down took only a couple of minutes, and I was able to easily carry the collapsed ladder through my house to the garage. I wanted a ladder that would get the job done. What I got was a ladder that I'm confident will allow me to manage many previously unmanageable home projects with confidence. This is a great product!

Convenient, sturdy, and versatile ladder to use. Fairly lightweight (40 pounds or so) for this type of ladder, which makes the ladder easier to manipulate (optional wheels probably unnecessary for this ladder). Operation of the ladder is relatively simple, except that I found that the rung-locking mechanisms used for extending/lowering the length of the ladder were a bit difficult to disengage (perhaps a different shape of the black plastic handgrips would help). Also, care must be exercised when lowering the ladder to its shortest length for storage, because the end of the telescoping section would get held up by the crossbrace near the bottom of the stationary section, which can cause a sudden jarring drop of the telescoping part of the ladder when it releases.
