Q:Does this product do a decent job unclogging a bathtub drain?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello Rich, This is a 4 claw tool and can pick-up small items as well as help clear clogs in sink, tub or shower drain by either catching and pulling hair/debris out or by acting as an auger to push and break the debris. However, just like any tool, this works best when used within its designed operating range. The tool is made from flexible spring steel however the front end of the tool (where the claws reside) is approx. 3/8" dia x 3" long so may not bend on sharp turn. Also, the claws are not designed to catch paper or very thin objects. You can read the reviews of several very satisfied customer who have been able to use it successfully to clear clogs but then there are a few who were unable to possibly due to use in application that was beyond the design range of the tool. For this tool to go through sink drain or tub drain, you will need to take out the pop-up stopper/tub stopper so the head can get inserted into the drain pipe. Hope this helps - Please contact us at sales@pfwaterworks.com if you need additional information or have questions. Thanks.

A:  Based on my experience with it in other situations, I wouldn't expect it to. Bathtub drains are most commonly clogged from layers of long hair, that often take some effort to pull out. The grip on these isn't strong enough to do that in most cases I'd say. I would go with Home Depot's $1.47 plastic hair snake instead, or something similar.

A:  The claws open about 5/8". Not sure if it can grab a water bottle cap while it is still installed - depends upon the cap diameter and structure.

Something about the design of the claws causes them to retract before actually grabbing most objects. Then the claws disappeared into the wire sheath and couldn't easily be forced out. Then when they did finally pop out it was only about a half inch - useless. Made by PF WaterWorks, possibly a name to avoid when purchasing ANYTHING!

Dear Customer - the normal position for the claws when the handle is in release mode is inside the spring. Please contact us at sales@pfwaterworks.com and provide your contact info so we can call to better understand the issue and help resolve it. pfwaterworks
                  It saved the day!
The grab tool was needed when I dropped a car part in the engine compartment. I could see the part down at the bottom pan, below many of the motor components. I thought there was no way to get it. Until I picked up this handy tool - and after 2 or 3 try’s, I was able to grab the part and slowly bring it up and around the motor components. If it didn’t work I would have had to pay a mechanic a few hundred bucks.

This grabber wasn’t big enough to grab a little car that my son put down our shower drain, but I’m sure it would work fit hair and other small objects. The grabbers are really strong which is great.

Would have paid twice as much now that I used it
This product would have saved me so much money if I had tried it before using Drano 5 times on my bathtub. The drano just kept bypassing the hair that was living right under the drain, meaning it never ate anything. This item grabbed the hair and yanked it out, and my 6 month issue of slow draining tub and showering in water up to my ankles was solved in 10 minutes. $10 is a bargain!
