Will this one bundle kit be able to support a house

Asked by Nana July 29, 2015

Answers

No. Naturally, the power required to "support a house" is dependent on the house and what loads are applied. Just remember, 400 Watts is a couple of 200 Watt light bulbs or about 1/4th of a hair dryer. It normally will not meet the loads of an average house directly from its output. If the system is used to charge a battery bank, the capability to meet house loads depends on the capacity of the batteries and inverter to discharge enough power to have it converted to A/C to meet house demands. If you have enough batteries, charging all day may supply enough power to run everything for an hour or two. Again, it is dependent on your individual loads.

No. Mine is mounted on an angle iron frame to hold it at a 30 degree angle. It just needs a sunny spot where trees or buildings don't shade it.

Sure I've got 8 six volt batteries connected in parallel to store more power during the day and then use it all night. Works great.

I have a light that is run with a ballast that runs on 110v. A.C. draws 9.5Amps 60 Hz. Will the 400 supply the power I need? for an 8hr. run time

Thank you for your interest in Grape Solar kits. Based on your description above, the 400-KIT will not powering your light for very long. A 110 volt light at 9.5 Amps is 1,045 Watts (110V * 9.5A = 1,045W). To run that light for 8 hours per day requires 8,360 WattHours (1.045 * 8 = 8,360Wh). This system (on average) should produce around 1,200Wh per day with more in the Summer and less in the Winter. That will give you around one hour of run time. This size of system would likely only give you one hour of usage per day, assuming that you have a battery bank which can store the energy.

how many more panel can i add on to this system?

This is a complete system.

Does this kit include the inverter? It is not shown in the photo or the instruction manual.

Will this set run my heating system i

That will be determined by how many watts your heat system requires as well as your battery bank capacity. Mine handles all of my off grid needs except well pump do to it being 240 but I use that to fill my gravity 250 gallon tank with water a couple times a year powered by a generator. I changed all lights to LED and has reduced the amount of power needed. I can watch TV and have a fan on plus couple lights all day into the night with no issue. Matter of fact during the day once the batteries are full the panels power everything leaving the inverter reading 13.2volts all day with the sun out. You will need to purchase the extra cables to reach your desired location of the batteries from the panels. Very easy system to assemble and don’t forget to buy the mounting brackets for the panels. Very satisfied. Again your power supply is dependant on your battery grid, so buy enough batteries to handle your amp hours needed per day.

If the pool pump runs continuously then it's not going to work. The inverter has a finite efficiency which is not specified. A safe estimate (but still a guess) would be an efficiency of 90%, so the inverter input draws 650/0.9=725 Watts from the panel + battery when supplying the 650 Watt load. Then 725 W is 725/13.2= 55 Amps draw from the combination of battery + charge controller. This loading is way in excess of maximum 400W and 22A panel output. You need either a much bigger panel, like 1000W, or a much smaller pool pump, like 250W or less.

Very easy installation instructions. Recommend marking positive and negative cables from the solar panels, four panels get a little confusing to hook together. Other than that excellent.

This kit was easy to put together. The voltage it puts it out is more than enough to power the lake fountain and lights I bought it to operate. The only thing the kit didn’t include was a battery to charge to run the power when the sun wasn’t shining. However, I bought a battery for the kit and it was easy to attach to the kit. Now, the kit will easily run my lake fountain and it’s lights all day and all night long!
