Will this work for a bug zapper so i dont have to run a cord around my house?

Asked by Coppertopsc April 5, 2017

Answer

No, this panel has an output that is a 5-volt DC USB outlet. You would need something like our GS-200-KIT, at a minimum, to run any devices that use AC power.

is the end that charges a item a s standard USB while the end in the panel a micro usb ?

Asked by Rob June 28, 2016
1
Answer

The other way around - the output of the panel is standard USB, the connection to the item is the micro USB. You can use an adapter to switch this around if necessary.

is it my battery pack or my panel?

Asked by Dan May 18, 2016

Answer

While Grape Solar chargers work with most USB batteries, we cannot guarantee compatibility with battery types that are not sold by Grape Solar.

Do you have to use the built in cord or can you use something other than Micro USB

Asked by Shubamz April 8, 2016

Answer

This panel is only compatible with standard USB (output) and micro USB (charging input).

Being dumb about solar panels and electricity

Asked by 27470pineb April 8, 2016

Answer

The product you are referring to has a USB output (5 VDC,), and cannot be used to charge 12 volt deep cycle batteries. To do what you describe, you would want something like our 400 watt kit on Home Depot, paired with a deep cycle battery bank between 200 and 400 amp-hours in capacity.

What is the output ratings (voltage & Amperage)?

Asked by Frank April 8, 2016
1
Answer

This panel has a USB output, which by definition is 5 VDC. Amperage would be 1.5 amps. As per the Specifications page, the panel is 11 inches by 8.5 inches by 0.1 inches. Currently manufactured in China.

will this charge a 12 volt 7 ah lead acid battery on a security gate?

Asked by Carl April 8, 2016
1
Answer

No, this will not charge a lead acid battery.

You need to use this with a compatible rechargeable power pack. REPEAT. You need to use this with a compatible rechargeable power pack. This panel is not designed to charge most devices on it's own. I tested a compatible "Stone" power pack from the same company to fully review this solar panel. I have also written a review on the power pack. The build quality of the solar panel was to my liking- soft, textile edges surrounding the flexible solar panels. Similar to a soft (but durable) tablet case. The panel has a pocket built into the back to hold things, like the power pack and/or phone and has D-Rings on all four corners to help attach to backpacks, suction cups, etc. Connection from solar panel to battery pack is mini USB. Panel efficiency will be case-by-case basis. I used this to charge the battery pack during the day in the window and charged a smartphone or two at night. I found in bright daylight it will charge a pack against the window with a screen. In dim/cloudy situations, the solar panel worked against the window without screen. Panel is built robust and sturdy and is compact enough to fit in backpacks, computer bags and some tablet cases.

I have used this to charge my Nexus S phone and Nexus 7 tablet. Both devices went to AC charging mode when plugged into the solar panel. AC charging is much faster than “USB” charging. They also charge if the panel is outside but not in direct sunlight, for example in the shade of our outdoor umbrella. It plugs directly into the Micro-B plug of the tablet or phone. The panel is mounted in a rugged nylon cover which also has 4 D rings on the corners so that the panel can be strapped or tied to something (such as a backpack). There is a sleeve on the back into which one can place the device being charged. I was able to get my Nexus 7 (7” tablet) into the sleeve. The ‘manual’ is a fine print 5” x 4” card printed in color. It states that the charger is designed for charging Grape Solar Mobile Power Packs and implies that it won’t charge some devices directly. Its output can be up to 1.33 A at 5.65 Volts with a maximum voltage of 7.5 V ±5%

Seems well made, but the power output just was not there. The best I could get is 4.25V at .75A which is 3.1875W. That is only 42.5% the rated output. According to a charge doctor I got 560mAh charge when in the sun for one hour. I have a 10w panel which I can get 8w out of which is 80% the rated output. I'll be returning.

This product was not waterproof. Seems funny something that's was made to sit in the sun would not be waterproof. New flash to this units maker the sun don't always shine. Also shame on me for not noticing its meant to charge a 6 volt battery. I had not use for it and returned it Home Depot. They were great and allowed me to my local home depot store. I would not hesitate to order online from Home Depot in the future.

I purchased this solar panel with the Grape Slate solar rechargeable battery pack and am very pleased with its performance. The solar panel has a pouch where you can store your battery pack and any needed charging cords. The solar panel comes with four grommets so you can attach to a backpack and charge while you are hiking. We traveled with ours on the dash of our rental car. Very well constructed, light weight and was easy to stow in my carry on luggage for a quick charge of my phone or iPad. I would highly recommend it.

The charger does not work well. Sometimes even in direct sunlight it does not charge. It seems to charge when it wants to, not when you want it to. I would like to return it.

I bought this to charge my battery backup for my cell phone for when I might be away from a power source like camping or back packing. I placed it in full sun outside and inside (though a south facing window) and it does not charge the battery back up that has the same requirements as the Grape battery that has a higher amp/hour rating. Not sure if I received a faulty unit or not, but it did arrive with a small dimple in the face of the panel. As for the $50 I put out for this, I'm not getting what I paid for.
