Would this be suitable for use in a shower? Do I need stainless steel?

No, will rust eventually, definitely use stainless for a shower with being around all the moisture. Ok if you use it behind the green board and not subjected to moisture.

Most definitely.

If I use this to screw a pressure treated 2x4 to a 4x4 fence post, do I need to pre drill the holes?

Asked by Barbara June 26, 2017

Not if you are using new (green) wood. If you are repairing an existing fence or other structure that has "cured" in the sun, pilot holes are recommended to keep the wood from splitting (particularly if you are attempting to toe nail cross pieces to upright posts).

Building decks is tough. The work is more presentable when using screws to attach the wood products but that is often hard because of bits and tough wood timber. These went in easily and the bits lasted a long time. I think they do much better than others I have purchased in the past. I recommend them.

These screws worked great. I used them to put together a new raised bed with treated lumber and galvanized roofing. Being exterior rated deck screws they should last a long time. They drove well and had a good deep Phillips head for minimal slip when driving them with a impact driver. I used these screws in pocket holes to create very snug joints. Great component for completing the raised bed project. See Pic.

These are excellent exterior screws if you are screwing into dry, kiln dry pine. I bought them to screw into exterior pressure treated 2x4s. If you pre-drill the wood, they work fine. However, most drill bits are shorter than 3" and when screwing the last 1/4 to 1/2 inch, the Phillips bit in my DeWalt hammer drill would strip-out the head of the screw. That said, for wet pressure treated wood, I suggest you use 3 1/2-inch torx bit screws.
