Q:What size nail set do I use to counter sink these?

    Answer This Question

A:  On the head of the finish nail (top of head) you will notice an indentation that is used to countersink it. Brink the nail to Home Depot and match it to the top of the head indentation. The believe correct nail set should be a 1/32" for a 1-1/2" finish nail.

A:  You’ll have to purchase a Nail Punch set. It’s usually a 3-Piece set that is used to sink nails further into your wood. Hope this helps.

    by|Oct 23, 2018

A:  I use an 1/8" countersink for most of my nails

A:  I'm pretty certain they were made in the fiery pits of H E Double L . And I felt like I was in some weird Bardo netherworld state after the surreal experience of gently tapping in 25 nails before ONE would go in properly to a simple piece of shoe molding.

            Missing the Center Punch
The finish nails are missing the center punch and almost make it impossible to use a nail set without it sliding off.

Total crap product. Nails are coated in grimey black oil. Gets on hands and wood requiring extra work for clean up. Don’t buy this product. Shame on you Home Depot for featuring poor quality products.

The heads of these nails are not cupped as advertised. In fact, there is a ridge that runs right across the top of the head. They cannot be set because the nail punch immediately slides off the head and gouges the wood. Also, they bend more easily than any nail I have ever encountered.

The quality here is really good. Great for baseboards and crown moulding, and other uses too. These 2 1/2 inchers are really long but useful if you're working with thick materials. Sturdy.

                Did the job
These nails were the perfect length for securing my baseboard and went in cleanly.

                Poor quality
                1. Inconsistent lengths 2. Greasy black coating that will make a mess of your nice white trim 3. The heads are very poorly shaped. I bought 1 lb. packs of 4d, 6d and 8d nails. Some were made in Viet Nam and others were made in Dubai, all were inconsistently sized, greasy, and had poorly shaped heads. The photos show the differences in these nails and those from an older box of American made nails of the same size and type.
